I'm hope I'm not breaking any usage guidelines or anything by doing this, but I'd like to state that I'm selling two DS games on eBay. I'm selling
Gyakuten Saiban 2 (an imported Japanese copy of the sequel to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney) and
Professor Layton and the Curious Village.
If it helps this post be less spammy, let me state exactly why I'm selling these games. You see, I'm saving up money to purchase a half-decent PC. With said half-decent PC, I plan on buying Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and, eventually, Dawn of War 2. My laptop can't run WAR, and it probably won't be able to run Dawn of War 2. I'm contemplating selling my Xbox 360 for a PC, but if I did so, I would miss out on games like Rock Band 2. I would still be able to play Fallout 3, so that wouldn't be a problem, but there are some console-only games coming out in the near future that I would prefer not to miss out on.
Let me ask, first of all, in the opinion of the good members of the Destructoid community, is WAR worth the time? Is it truly better than WoW?
Also: Would it be better to buy individual PC parts from
newegg.com or
Tiger Direct and assemble a computer myself, or should I configure one from Dell, Alienware, or
CyberPower? Or, OR, as a third option, should I buy a fully built PC from somewhere and the replace the video card/RAM/whatever?
There. Surely now the post is more than me advertising my eBay sales. Oh yes.
I think of WAR vs WoW in that, WAR is more for the PvP loving skull smashing goon, where WoW is for the guy who likes to play Co-op games and surf social dating sites.
Many parts of WAR are awesome and well done. Keep sieges are awesome and you really feel like part of the battle, PvP is worth doing and amounts to gear, tactics and other things. Having a vast amount of scenarios is also awesome so you're not grinding WSG just to get marks of honor.
That being said, I won't be renewing my account until after the holidays because it's no longer the top game on my list. Some of it's faults are evident when you start getting to higher tiers of the game. The open grouping system doesn't work as intended, you're lucky to find a group in the area that is doing the same thing as you are. And the lack of a region wide chat channel is debilitating to finding groups.
WAR is a great game and I'd take it over WoW for sure, but I find that it's not for everyone.
we have them
you can use them
As for WAR, get it. If you had any fun at all PVPing in WoW, then their is no reason not to get WAR. The classes are pretty well balanced for team play and learning your own role as a team mate is really a challenging aspect of the game that varies throughout the different tiers of the game.
While 'zerging' still has its place, more often than not it comes down to positional key healing, protecting casters, staying together and making quick kills. Its just a better PVP system designed for more skull crackin' and ass zappin' >:^D
The capture the ball/flag/point scenarios are also a lot of fun. Bombing runs and murder point activation can be had too. Oh and punting people in to hot lava never seems to get old, lol.
Plus, on top of all that the PVE is pretty well done. Get on a 'core' server and you won't have to worry about getting ganked by higher leveled players unless you flag for it (which can always fun too, hehe). So questing is a lot of fun, and never feels repetitive, until maybe Tier 3. Even then tho the new patch increases EXP in Tier 3 now.
Just as any other MMORPG, all of the story is given through text. I like to read, some of the stories are cool. But I can definitely see a lot of players just skipping to the bottom to read the objectives, accept the quest and move on. Who has time to read anymore? I sit down and read through my Tome of Knowledge from time to time... while I know some players don't even touch the damn thing! Get your 'RP' out of my MMORPG!
I just helped my roommate build a completely new machine with, only re-using his DVD drive and OS for ~$580 after rebates --- with all of the same or better hardware than that Crysis PC.
Try to go with faster ram that matches 1:1 synchronously to your processors FSB.
