About Me
First off is my highest honour -- my shit on the front page of Destructoid.

I was born back in the days of yore, when 3-D graphics were only a dream.

I like games.

Super Nintendo had to be one of the best consoles. Mario, Metroid, Link, Kirby, Donkey Kong and everyone else came to the party. Good times.

I own a Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and a DS.

I regret missing some of the good old days, back in the early 90's, because I was too young to appreciate a good game when it smacked me in the face. Such is the folly of youth.

Somedays I wish I could have lived through such tumultuous times, what with the advent of Spandex tights and Rap, but then I think that it is much better to live longer and be younger than all of you people who did enjoy Super Metroid and Mario Kart in it's heyday and just be content with an emulator and a Xbox 360 controller.

Favorite Games: Mario series, Donkey Kong Country/64, Metroid series, Legend of Zelda series, Fable, Halo series, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA series, God of War 1 and 2, Morrowind, Oblivion, Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy X, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and more that I can't recall.

Send me a friends request if you dare, just send a message telling me you're from Destructoid so I don't think you're a 63 year old pedophile masquerading as a teenage girl to lure gullible, young boys to your basement. And if that description both fits you and you are from Destructoid then expect to recieve my home phone number and address.

Update: One year later

New games I would add to my favorites are Gears of Wars series, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock (hey, I was playing it when I joined!), and other games I cannot recall. Some games I have loved for a long time but forgot to list over a year ago are Rome: Total War, the top Mario games, and the main Pokemon GB games. The rest escape me at this time.

So these days God no longer compels you to blog, Atlas is Fontaine, and generally speaking I am pretty well known around these parts. (I hope) I regret not joining Destructoid sooner, when I first had the chance with a link from Chad Concelmo's IGN blog. Even he was born in the primordial soup IGN was, or so it would seem. I no longer frequent there or other gaming sites except from time to time because Destructoid is hopefully my internet home from here on out. A great place to be, cheers to another year at Destructoid!

Update: Another year later

Okay, so year three isn't going that great. I haven't blogged for six months and have barely visited the site. In fact, it is nearly November and my 2 years happened almost 2 months ago in early September. Damn life, going outside into the real world is time consuming! I haven't even turned on a videogame since April... (until just recently!) But of course I haven't forgotten about Dtoid; THE GREATEST SITE ON THE WEB! Sorry Dtoid, I will try to live less and Dtoid more.

Update: Another few years later

So life hit me... I still visit this site when I can... to think I started visiting this site when I was 15, and made an account two weeks after I turned 16... I'm 20 now, Destructoid is practically part of my life story at this point, even if I disappear for years at a time. Still, I remember the good old days, the days when Dtoid was like the Wild West, when I was at my most active, and when we would open the gates of Hell in our mischief, always walking on the edge of the banhammer. Now I'm just an ancient, obscure memory to the last surviving cowboys, a group even to this day I feel I'm a part of. Still, I raise my glass to you. Good times Destructoid, good times!

Oh, and to a few of us oldsters, Atlas is Fontaine.

Anyone Else Disappointed in the Lackluster Grand Theft Auto 4 Cheats?
Atlas | 3:22 AM on 05.16.2008 22 comments

San Andreas had some pretty amazing cheats, you gotta admit. Slowing down time? Flying cars? Everyone has a rocket launcher? All of the above combined? This madness was commonplace in San Andreas, and it definitely expanded the games longevity tenfold for me. Nothing was more fun than flying a quad through skyscrapers with your numerous girlfriends only to crash into a tower. They fell and died. You had a parachute.

These moments are gone from the new Grand Theft Auto. In many ways Rockstar took a step back and destroyed what made San Andreas great -- planes, parachutes, and countless awesome cheats.

Am I the only one who misses them?

Now, I am not saying Grand Theft Auto 4 isn't a worthy successor, but look at how many cheats there are. Spawn a fast car. Check. Spawn a boat, a helicopter when you've got the room. Check. Weapons? Health? Armor? Check Check Check. Where though, I ask, did all the fun cheats go? I want all the cab drivers to have rocket launchers. I want every hooker shooting and stealing random things. How come the cars stay firmly planted on the ground?

I just miss some of the best parts of the Grand Theft Auto of yesteryear. In many ways cheats were the best part of the series. Is it too much to ask for murderous pedestrians?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

If I played GTA games to run around and cause chaos, this might concern me. But I play it for the story and the satire, so the cheat codes are of little interest or concern to me.

I find that the cheat codes are just fine. If you can get the enough people pissed off at you in the game, you can bring down cause enough chaos to fill your sadistic, yet slightly cartoon-ish lust for violence.
Now I do miss Do-Do cars, and the everyone has a gun, but you take what you get and enjoy it.

1. We fly a plane to Rockstar HQ and take the development team hostage
2. We don't let them go until they finish a patch to include our desired cheats
3. ?????
4. PROFIT!!!

Cheaters never prosper.

I think Rockstar are trying to prove that games can be a great successor to films. Giving GTA IV cheats would take away from the point it is trying to prove. It would become slightly more imperfect. If that makes sense.

I don't care thaaat much. Usually you get tired of cheats after a while anyway, now you'll get tired of them a bit sooner.

I do miss a missile-capable helicopter though, it's almost impossible to effectively shoot anything with the Annihilator :/

I don't miss the cheats. I barely used them. I was use them for a while get tired of them them then go back to regular gameplay. I also foolishy thought I would pursue 100% in San Andreas. I got close but then I abandoned it.

Not really, because I'm not a 9 year old that needs cheats.

Honestly i didnt even know there were cheats for SA. But i never got very far in that game. Maybe i just had a lot going on at the time it came out but i've still yet to get past the first few missions. Never got into it in the same way i got into VC. One thing i wish they did have though would be the ability to rent garage spaces. So you can have a fleet of different cars on standby.

I haven't even touched cheats yet. I used to like the one that would make everyone attack you and basically start Armageddon

I never dabbled in cheats in SA. I don't plan on it on this one.

So yeah, I personally don't care much I guess.

They're cheats. You shouldn't be complaining about cheats. They're extras. Easter Eggs.

Be Glad they are there to begin with.

enabling the cheats kills some of the achievments, so i haven't used them, but i hear ya. its nice to be able to customize the chaos.

I love it when rabidly anti-cheat people start throwing around insults, despite the fact that cheats in the GTA games have always been massive amounts of fun and usually have nothing to do with actually cheating to beat the game (although some people could use them that way, obviously)
Turning on violent pedestrians and arming them with weapons led to all kinds of awesome scenarios where you tried to surviving crossing the city. It expanded the game in some ways, really.

No I see what you're saying. There's some times where you just want complete chaos within the city and everywhere you go you just scream, "HOLY SHIT!"

lol yes, i missed everyone having weapons and rioting, including rocket launchers, and trying to do taxi missions with guns and explosions going off everywhere. i imagine that is what taxi driving would be in a war torn country. you couldn't get down a single street without having an RPG come *this* close to blowing you up, instead hitting the poor bastard behind you. good times..

No rioting? Wow, GTA IV just keeps getting worse and worse as time goes on. It was awesome until halfway through, then I got bored and put it down for a bit. Started playing and enjoyed it to the end, but this week I've played Worms more than GTA. Find and shoot 200 pigeons? Who the shit thought that would be fun?!
