Star Wars - Force Unleashed part 1
Atlandis | 1:16 PM on 06.09.2008 23 comments

The idea to open this blog is to get as many information I can about Star wars-The force unleashed.
The idea for me to buy Wii from the first place was mainly star wars series, as Lucas always gives their best for Nintendo all this years and some nice and fun Nintendo games. Also the new controller type gives you the feel and movement in your hands and body to move your character, etc. And it’s a kind of unique feel and extra fun that Nintendo pointed there and they made it!
Playing this game with Wii controller I believe is going to be MUCH more fun and realistic than any other console or controller type. But the pure hardware in front its competitors it will be hard as it’s not a Wii exclusive.

I have xbox360 and Wii and I am thinking about pre-ordering the game. But I don’t know which platform.

Shall I choose the best graphics? (And faulty hardware)

Shall I choose the best controller and feel?
More question coming on my mind after this 2 basics.

1st Xbox is SO sensitive and faulty about.. And scares me to hell while you play to explode (overheat) or something, the force will explode the machine in front your eyes (lol). That’s terrorism that Microsoft created to us! (Gamers)

2nd There is rumors about Microsoft buying copyrights from Nintendo and create a similar controller? Is that true? (Code name Newton) I have a web link about this matter but I find it stupid after all, Nintendo to give copyrights to Microsoft (lol). Something that gave wings to Wii!! And it’s No1.

Thanks.

Some posts from Nintendo and Lucas
"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force"

"The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master"

Some posts from other websites, want wiimote for xbox (lol)

"The Newton controller is going to have to small LED transmitters in a bar that you place next to your TV to triangulate the position of the remote by the LED sensor on the controller. The Big Button controllers that come with Sceen It! use an LED receiver that plugs into the USB ports. They also better get around to making a Xbox brand USB hub. Some of the original designs of the Xbox 360 had four USB ports in front and with all the Xbox accessories that use the USB ports would benefit from more available ports.

By making this controller Microsoft will be able to take away an exclusive feature that makes people want to buy a Nintendo Wii for around the cost of a standard wireless controller. If they bring an external Blu-Ray movie player they would take away one of the biggest reasons why current or potential Xbox owners would want to get a Playstation 3.

This controller would allow game developers to port Wii games to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade platforms. I would love to see games like Zak and Wiki on Xbox 360. Heck I would pay real money for graphical adventure games on Xbox Live Arcade. "

well dont worry too much about overheat, as mine very rarely does it, and if in doubt, go for the wii due to reliability

I'd wait for the game to come out to see if the wii version is just a shovelware waggle-fest or actually add to the game

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh Yeah! Moving your arms in vertical and horizontal gestures is sooo much better than pressing a button. Talk to me when its 1:1 motion and not crappy prescripted crap.

Those new xbox chipsets are supposed to be great at dealing with heat and noise now. I'd be very surprised if anyone was able to get 1:1 motion outta the wii controller. It would be nice to have the option to swing the 'mote around, but it shouldnt be the only control scheme. In LEGO Indy, there are waggle motions, but you dont have to use it. I rarely do.

I think the Wii version is definitely going to be something to watch for. Personally, I'm all for gameplay over graphics, and the dueling mode that's exclusive to the Wii is going to be very nice.

However, in this case, I may actually go with the PS3 version, simply because the graphics are supposed to make this game, and I don't want to miss out on that. But I can definitely understand your concern with the 360's faulty hardware. Just for that reason alone I'd probably go with the Wii version.

Trust me, i was scared about that idea as well.. But after i tested it and finally bought it.. I am so happy i did!!!!!! :) and the idea to move objects in star wars with this kind of motion and controller, I just can't wait to be honnest. Also the wii edition gives u a lightsabre as well.. I was trying to find if theres any information about special gadgets on xbox version but nothing..

"Talk to me when its 1:1 motion and not crappy prescripted crap." Yeah, that's what I want. Why haven't they done that instead?

Anyway I'd say get the one that you think you'll play all the time.

Also, I'm jealous that you're in Greece. I'm Greek, but I'm stuck in Utah in the U.S. :P (I still need to learn how to speak the language.)

3 things are against for this title!!.. 1st: Graphics (I am not sure if ps3 is going to better than 360 or equal)
2nd) Online gaming ( I think xbox comming 1st, Wii 2nd and ps3 3rd)
and finally gameplay 1st Wii, 2nd ps3(i want to believe) and 360

if you check this, I see balance in all platforms so everybody is going to be happy....

Happy to see Greeks doesnt matter if you live far :).

My concern about xbox360 faulty hardware (check the pic i got in a prev blog lol) is because i had bad experiece twice in the past. 1st (gear of wars, the screen freezed and strange colors all over. After 5 min i saw ring of death and 2nd time recently, Skate.)

As for the new type of chipset that spitfire said, it's not resolved the problem at all. It is better yes but you have reduced chamces to get ring of death (16%) but this time some new problems sawed up. Lets see...I heared rumors about a new xbox360 edition before or after christmas.
GuitarAtomik's Destructoid Blog
Personally, I'm getting the X360 version. Partly because the graphics look really good but mostly because the X360 and PS3 versions are going to use the Euphoria engine (the same character animation engine GTA4 does) AND the DMM engine which makes objects and matter deform and react realistically and dynamically. I wouldn't worry about whether the PS3 version will look better than the X360 version or not as I'm sure they'll be practically identical.

The Wii version does have the Duel mode but in all honesty, I doubt I'd play that for too long as it's probably going to be kind of tacked on, and the motion control will essentially be the same as it was in Twighlight Princess and Okami so I'm not really interested in that either.

But it really comes down to personal preference I think the big showcase and fun for this game is going to be in seeing how the enemies and environment react to me going berserk on them which the Wii version will lack somewhat, but if you you value the motion control over that, than you should go for the Wii version.

Also, even IF Microsoft comes out with a motion controller soon, I doubt it would be implemented in this game so that shouldn't be a factor.

Yay! Greeks are everywhere :P
Well, LucasArts has a fashion on making good games on Nintendo Consoles (watch gamecube Starwars games)
I advise you to wait and see...
Atlandis's Destructoid Blog
No is going to be a bit different than okami and all the rest. U’ll be able to move objects with ur nunchuk and wii remote to kill with lightsabre. (At least something like that, from the videos I’ve seen). The graphic engine is not going to be euphoria indeed but a smaller engine made by individual company but with good results. I believe versus mode that Lucas added is going to be really fun because it supports Wi-fi connection as well. I may buy both editions. Let’s see them all (editions) when they come out. (They also added some extra areas from episode 3 and 4 in Wii version)

@Atlandis

Yeah, I forgot about the force stuff. I'm pretty sure I'd get tired of it after a while though but that's just me. I just prefer to push the button most of the time.

I do wish the other versions had the VS mode but it's not enough to make me get it on Wii either. I'm kind of hoping it will be DLC later but I'm not holding my breath.
AngelsDontBurn's Destructoid Blog
Yeah, sorry but this isn't a hard choice for me. Euphoria > everything else. After seeing what it can do in GTA IV and actually being able to interact with it. I got even more excited about Unleashed and the newer interactions with the same engine. I was bummed that the 360 / PS3 version are lacking multiplayer and honestly I think it's a load of bull. But I think the gameplay will hold its own.

I told myself I would buy the Wii & 360 versions because of the minor differences. But I think I'll wait and find out exactly WHAT the differences are prior to the games release. I know they've already given SOME information, but I want it ALL!
Qraze's Destructoid Blog
wow! lucas arts always give nintendo their best? what about that podracing game that got quickly whored out or why didn't kotor come out on gamecube if lucas always gives nintendo their best? that aside , i would get in on the wii if i had that choice but alas my ps3. and i think this game is getting too much hype with people remembering how kotor was and trying to consolidate them together. i will hold my breath on this title and wait for some real user feedback. the devs are always gonna praise their game, they would say they had small dicks if it meant everybody jumping to get this game.
big filth's Destructoid Blog
seriously dude. the 360 version is going to be way better than the wii version. I have both systems too and wouldnt think about getting this for the Wii. The 360 is the true version, the wii is just a tag along version.

use your head son.
Qraze's Destructoid Blog
i think he might be worried about that faulty hardware 360s just all seem to have.
Arttemis's Destructoid Blog
You may point toward the waggle-filled gameplay of the Wii as being superior gameplay, and that the PS360 games only get a benefit in graphics, but I'd have to disagree.

The Wii will have have a different input method, but it will be lacking the 3 engines that are the real stars of the game: Havok, Euphoria, and DMM.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29964.html

This video is the biggest reason to be excited for the game. The Wii and PS2 versions are merely the story tacked on a generic action game with flat animations.
Mxyzptlk's Destructoid Blog
Not 100% sure, but I'm probably going to buy it for the 360, and borrow my friend's copy he's getting for the Wii when he's finished with it. If it wasn't for the rad physics engines in the 360 version, I'd probably go with Wii for the motion control.
Atlandis's Destructoid Blog
I didnt said that Wii version have better graphics! I gave my point about 360 generall.. ! Its really scary and TOTAllY unfair and sh*t to play a game and the hardware fall apart... I just dont want to live this momments again. Microsoft failed in that part.. But the main concern even if its faulty, some repair centers don't support (Easter Europe support and repair center). I may buy both editions so if my xbox burn i will have the "pure" version as well. If you check the image from skate game..(check vol2 blog)I took this photo 4 days ago, my main concern was if hardware is about to explode once again but the character is perfect, the backround is more like a broken tv so i want to believe that is the damaged disc and not the hardware (they said they repaired it).
Atlandis's Destructoid Blog
I am gonna write this to laugh a bit..

If u saw the image i hope u dont mean that euphoria and DMM looks like it on xbox360! hahahaha :) lolez

 about me

Hi m8’s I am 28 years old and I live in Greece. I play video games since the age of 7..
My life is video games and I use to play games such as rpg, adventures, first person shooters, etc. I got lots of hardware but I must admit that I grow up with Nintendo. At this point I play xbox360 and my BRAND new Wii. (it was about time as soon new hard core titles sawing up.)

Wii is a fascinating machine as it entertains you even without a game on. As I said I just bought my Wii so I only got Mario kart wii. Pm me for friend codes!

Xbox 360, Oh dear, it is the most amazing gaming experience and the biggest crap hardware I ever seen. It earns your love but not your trust. Be aware of that.. A console that after guarantee ends you got to buy a new one… (Trick or not)?

Playstation 3, surely not for gamers.. Movie lover's maybe. But it's still expensive and faulty too though! Sony did many mistakes with it and 2 almost years now, I still hear voices that's it's the best! Best? For gamers? For what? Surely not for me. But It still have the chance to earn my pocket if it proves something more than now!...

Cheers

Rule the games you play..Never let it rule you.
