Reviews aren't supposed to be comparative. Each one is supposed to be taken separately, with regard to how well each game succeeded at reaching whatever it set out to achieve.
Therefore: Tough titty.
True. but everybody does it any way. Like I said I don't care. It's a good score and I'm buying the game.
Even if it mattered what gamespot says about games, .5 is not that big a difference. That being said, was it the same writer who reviewed both games?
Point is, negative reviews attract attention. Or else Orange Box would've gotten 100 everywhere.
Read the text and stop looking at the numbers. Reviewers work hard on those reviews for you to just look at the numbers and somehow think it's the end all.
Lol
@vexed alex
Aww, poor little reviewers work so hard and nobody reads there work. Here is a tiny violin for you. Of course I read the text, I was just commenting on the score.
Gamespot's done this before with Zelda and a few other games. Either it's policy that they drop low ratings to get pagehits, or the reviewer just wants to go against the grain. Having not played the game yet I can't drop any wisdom, but reviews rarely if ever actually affect game sales, no matter how hard the reviewers wish it otherwise.
I wonder if Halo 3 would have sold any less if it got lousy ratings. Probably not.
MechaMonkey read the Destructoid Review Guide and learned it =O
Well, I'd totally agree with Assassins Creed being a 9. Not played Mass Effect yet but it's out here on Friday.
8.5 is a pretty damn good score. I'd consider buying anything that's 7 on up.
I'm with Tristero here, and besides, it's only one site. Check out MetaCritic or Gamerankings if you want a clearer picture of the game's quality. Or, just buy it and try for yourself, irregardless of the reviews.
Dude, if theres one thing you should have learnt by now, its dont pay attention to gamespot scores. Their reviews are (normally) pretty good, but the scores seem to be randomly chosen from the range the game deserves. Mass effect apparently deserves an 8 to a 10.
Though an 8.5 is steal a "great", I fucking hate Gamespot and their reviews are bullshit
i really don't like gamespot anymore. the repetition of assassin's creed absolutely killed me. at the end of the game, i was like, alright, i'll do the bare minimum 3 info's then im outta here killing stuff.
i would easily expect mass effect to have an epic number of dialogue scenes, but it still works with the gameplay. but with ass creed? GOD. i wish they would just STFUAJPG.
