My name is August, though you'll almost always see me with the pseudonym Arttemis. I'm happily married to a beautiful woman who loves to run around Italy, pick-pocketing its population and performing parkour, but is horrified to run through a zombie-infested mall, even if she has a sledgehammer with an axe attached.
I've been familiar with gaming since Atari days, but it wasn't until the release of
Metal Gear Solid,
Resident Evil 2, and
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 1998 that I was an avid fan. While those are still some of my favorite games, my favorite genre is, without a doubt, action games.
DMC3 is potentially my most-played title of all time, though I can see
Bayonetta taking its place.
That's me! -Taken at PAX'09!
Happy Winner of a
Free Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400! Thanks, Dtoid!

With that said, this had better fix the music issue I've been having with this console. I can't listen to my tunes from my PC anywhere but the XMB. It cuts off when I go into the Playstation Store for Christ's sake. This is a feature I took for granted on my 360. Until I realized the PS3 didn't have it I really missed it.
Can I get PS2 emulation on my 40GB PS3? Please? Assholes.
Also, the console uses DVDs. They load reaaaalllllllllyyyyyy sllllloooooowwwwwww.
So chill out dude. Its become obvious that you love your 360 the most. Well, so do I, except it's not always there when you want it. Like, when it breaks. Again. And Again.
I'm really excited at the prospect of improvement for older titles. For a company with such a large software library from previous consoles, Sony is really obligated to put more emphasis on making these titles work.
+ MGS1 (PS1) runs perfectly.
+ MGS2 (PS2) runs amazingly - the framerates are a bit unstable, but they seem to range from 95%-105% original speed.
- MGS3 (PS2) runs like absolute shit on average - at best, the framerate seems to top out at 90% when indoors, but in larger areas, it can drop to as low as 50%.
@vexed alex: It is terrible that Sony has downplayed BC's role for the PS3. Considering that it wasn't because of costs, it's nearly unforgivable.
On a side note, as I was writing this post, I saw a PS3 commercial showing clips of LittleBigPlanet and MGS4 put to quotes of Shakespeare's Henry V. Interesting stuff.
But, anyway, are you DTF, Jimbo?
Having the viable option to install an open source operating system is definitely refreshing. Coupled with the lack of ads covering the UI and their policy to continuously improve their firmware, Sony is doing a lot of things the right way.
Its quiet operating volume is also very appealing.
But the hardware problems, not to mention what arttemis said about the console making noise, are really contributing to Sony picking up steam.
MS had it all perfectly set, they had everything in place.
Except quality hardware. Everything else is mostly gravy with me.
As for in game XMB, I could care less. It's all just arbitrary bullshit in the end. I just want good games.
I'm not that easy ..LMAO!!
Wait, what? So you're telling me a PS3 owner can't even criticize a system they own without someone resorting to "Well at least it's not as bad as the 360?" Wow. Just wow.
I bet it's like looking in a mirror.
Personally I could care less about what is going on with the 360. I have been there, done that. From personal experience, the 360 is not the holy grail of gaming. After going through 3 XBOX's and basically having Live go out several times (escpecially when I am paying), I made the switch. There are things that both systems could improve on and just leave it at that.
I am just glad to see that the firmware is finally confirmed and on the way.
Otherwise, I love him and his Halo 3 FNF.
Oh you mean like the RROD?
;D
Also, in-game XMB ftw; it's about fucking time, Sony.
It's called buyer's remorse, and just because you own it doesn't mean you have to love it
Also everyone needs to stop flinging their peas across the table and sit down at the fucking dinner table. Eat your food.
Fact is, I really didn't remember that the PS3 didn't have BC. I also didn't think spending $100 for 40 extra gigabytes was worth it. This further reinforces why all these SKUs are retarded.
Thing is, people bitch and things get fixed. Look at the Dualshock 3 controller. I own it and it's wonderful. Don't tell me rumble isn't necessary because I play sim racers and it's a necessity.
I'm a 360 owner and I have been calling out Microsoft on their bullshit from day one. It's my favorite console of this generation, but I know that this thing still has it's laundry list of problems. We're getting a fix for the DRM mess after getting an extended warranty. Know why? Bitching.
Now it's time to place disc drive issues into that 3 year warranty and I'll bitch 'till it happens. I shouldn't have to lie to Microsoft to get that fixed.
I'm tired of this weird ass love people have with their video game consoles. Even if it's minor like yours, Wrath, it's still annoying. Just think about it. You're annoyed because people are saying mean things about your PS3. Let that sit in your brain for a few seconds so you can see how ridiculous that is.
@ Whiteboy/EternalDeathSlayer
"Also, the console uses DVDs. They load reaaaalllllllllyyyyyy sllllloooooowwwwwww."
- Whiteboy
"From rumble to in-game XMB to controller weight to blu ray speeds to game installs."
-Wrath
Blu-Ray is slower, son. Go feed your kids.
"Going into a purchase knowing what you're not getting only to bitch about it after purchase is, say it with me, LAME."
OK, so no one can bitch about having to pay for Live because they knew it costs money in the first place. And if you heard of one instance of RRoD before you bought your 360 you can't complain about it because you knew what you were getting into. Etc etc...
I must apoligize, but I am angry at MS again. I just got my 360 back from repair, and already I am having 3 red lights and games crashing. I'm sick and tired of it, and because of the hardware problems, I actually bought a multi platform release for my PS3 instead of the 360 version.
That game was GTA4, and MS has a problem on it's hands if people buy multi-platform games for the PS3 because of RROD.
Then again, my 360 RROD on the day of GTAs release.
That hurt.
But like I said, I love your FNF Alex and have nothing against you. I love all consoles in the end.
Oh, and you get annoyed when people talk bad about your 360. You cant deny it, everyone sees it all the time Alex.
Vexed_Alex owns Microsoft? Alex = Bill Gates? News to me.
@ Whiteboy/EternalDeathSlayer
"I just can't stand how Alex seems to hate a system he actually owns."
Are you serious? So because I buy something I'm supposed to be absolutely in love with it? Forgive me if I find that statement to be ridiculous.

If you bought a dildo by accident will you automatically love it? Just curious, man.
In-game XMB is awesome. Now stfu.
I love videogames, they sure are swell. How about you coon? Do you like videogames?
"Also, the console uses DVDs. They load reaaaalllllllllyyyyyy sllllloooooowwwwwww. "
Blu-Rays read slower than DVDs so I don't know what you're talking about. That's why PS3 games force you to install to your hard drive, so it can access the game's assets as a reasonable speed.
Remember the point that this blog is trying to make..... In game XMB is coming soon!!! and that is awesome news!
Now stfuajpg
Yeah, so... um...
The PS3 getting in-game XMB seems great!
All they need to do now is to add PS2 support, then I'll upgrade to a bigger hardrive, and my purchase is complete!
Now if only Sony can get their "Online Gaming" act together they will be good to go. The PS# is still way behind the XBOX360 in that category. I have my fingers crossed though.
You can't ask for PS2 support. Obviously you're poor like me. You shouldn't ask for backwards compatibility unless you have an extra $100.
Thing is your TV can't turn into a 1080p tv but all the PS3s need is an update to put the emulator on there.
But, either way I'd say my experience with the PS3 and loading has been pretty good. It's true, it's the installs and I pretty much typed before I thought.
BTW, I payed 600 dollars for my PS3, so I was once unhappy with it. But things have improved considerably lately, while all the while my 360 has been going to the shitter, console after console.
Yeah but, I can hope that Sony will slowly continue to improve the emulation software until it eventually becomes a smoother, more capable console than the original PS2 hardware was!
Several games already benefit from the reduced slowdown, such as DMC3:SE, but it's the games that aren't optimized efficiently that stick out obviously.
Considering update 2.36's timing, I'm really hoping (as I've previously stated) MGS3 is one of the titles to be updated.
There would be much rejoicing.
@vexed alex, gamegoblin:
Unfortunately, the 40GB PS3s won't ever be able to updated to achieve backwards compatibility through emulation.
The original 20GB and 60GB PS3s house both the PS2 Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chips.
The 80GB models kept the GPU, but replaced the Emotion Engine with software emulation.
The 40GB models are lacking both the GPU and EE chips.
Source:
The thing is, they dont sell those PS3's in Europe - Just the 40GB version.
I was kinda hoping that they would add BC in a patch or so, but reading what ARTTEMIS said made me loose hope...
Fuck Sony... In fact, fuck Microsoft and Nintendo too!
Well, I'm not one to be a Negative Nancy and steal anyone's hopes and dreams...
So here's to hoping they successfully emulate the PS2 Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chips!
I hope that means they improve the EE emulation for 80GB models so that I can play my god damn MGS3 at more-than-half speed.
