How To: Enable HARD Mode / New Game + on Blue Dragon
Artadius | 11:08 AM on 09.05.2007 17 comments

Here are the steps on how to get the Hard Mode included DLC for Blue Dragon now instead of waiting for it to be released in the US Marketplace. I don’t think this is illegal… at least I hope not. It’s not like you’re stealing content that’s not already free to begin with.

1. You’ll need an email address OTHER than the one you have currently used for any other XBOX Live account. If you need a new email address, just go sign up for a new one at gmail or hotmail. If you choose the hotmail one, make sure you set your home country as Hong Kong SAR (I used Gmail…so I didn’t have to worry about this…)

2. Jump onto your XBOX360. Sign out of your current profile if it auto-signs in.

3. Create a new gamer profile.

4. Use the email you created / set-aside for this in step 1 for this profile.

5. For all the address and phone information, just put in whatever you want…just fill in something. Again, make sure you choose Hong Kong SAR when prompted for the country. I believe it will ask if you already have a Microsoft Live ID created for this email… you’ll say no and to have it create a new one for it. No biggy. Choose a free silver account etc…

6. After the account is created (NOTE, if you still have free XBOX Live Gold trial accounts available on your console, this WILL use up one of those…there’s no way around it. Sorry.), sign in on that account and proceed to the marketplace for downloadable content for Blue Dragon. Its one of two free items and the other is the demo so it should be easy to spot.

7. Download and enable. Start Blue Dragon (still on your Hong Kong profile) and it will auto apply the DLC at that point.

8. Now you can press the XBOX button and sign out of your Hong Kong profile and log in with your main US (or other nation) profile that you usually use and the DLC will also enable for that profile. Have fun starting a new game on Hard or New Game+. Note, these are only for new games…you can’t switch an already in progress Normal game to Hard.

9. You never have to do the above steps again… from then on out, you can simply log into your normal main profile from boot-up and the DLC will be autoloaded. I don’t know if you can delete your Hong Kong profile or not at this point… I haven’t bothered.

Enjoy! It is well worth it for the challenge.

Achievement whores should know this will fuck up some achievements for you, but it's still good to know if you have completed the game. I'm stuck on the first Mechat stage. Fucking stupid achievement.

How so?
Snaileb 's Destructoid Blog
Kif! You have this game? Please send me a message so I can send you a friend request!! GT : Snaileb

Yes.. and how will they fuck it up?

Kif , also just save and continue, and when you need to save again, save it in a different slot.

Artidus, I think it's just you, me, Kif, and Chronos blade that own this. lol you should've just put our names in the title!

Does this work with a Japanese xbox live account or must I make a Hong Kong one too?

Snail: So true...and so sad, it's a gem. As far as messing up the achievements...I can only guess that he simply means that its just going to make the difficult ones even more difficult. Oh well, I like a challenge! If it PREVENTS you from getting certain achievements though... I would really like to know about that because that stinks.

TheMartino: Not sure...everything I've read has said to make a Hong Kong SAR account. Let me know if you find out.

I already have a JP live account, so here's hoping it works with that one.

@Snaileb
I've now decided to get Blue Dragon and forego sleep to play it. This seems like the smartest thing to do. Should my first play through be on hard or normal?
Professor Pew's Destructoid Blog
I played the first 40 mins or so, until you have to clear out of the cavern level thing. So it gets better after that? Those reviews of "15 hours for disc1, story doesn't pick up till disc2" kinda stopped me from playing it further.

Greg has Blue Dragon also!

Disc 2 is fucking awesome, and its when the first epic battle of good and evil kicks off, but I enjoyed crunching through the first disc.

Message sent. I'm waiting on my baby blue dragons.

Yep, Hard has been very rewarding and feels very appropriate difficulty wise. I can't say its better than normal as I haven't played on normal... but I can't imagine playing it at a lower difficulty and enjoying it. It's sad that the Japanese developers still think us Americans are too dumb to be good at a JRPG.

Don't let other rumors on the internet say otherwise either..if you play on Hard you still don't have to spend time grinding just to beat a boss... just release yourself from feeling the need to save your good items for when you REALLY need them...because you'll need them on Hard. I have spent zero extra time just running around to level my party/shadows... but I also have had to use some of my better consumables just to beat some bosses. Great fun.

Snaileb: I would if my 360 wasn't banned. For playing a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 two weeks retail date :)

Is there anything in Blue Dragon that is online btw? Except for the DLC?
Snaileb 's Destructoid Blog
No.. nothing online. Pew, just make a new one, that sucks! The game might be worse.
Professor Pew's Destructoid Blog
Make a new one? I'm looking into buying a cheap Core for XBLA and Halo3/CoD4, but it's still a project-in-progress (read: eBay sucks). I'm also still wondering how MS will look at my american Live account with lots of pre-retail achievements... They don't make it easy for an old pirate to go legit :(

I'll probably get a new 360 around the time of CoD4 though. No way I can resist that and SF2HD when it comes out.

You know what I hated? Protecting the fucking wagon. Aggh, I still don't have that achievment. This game is really fun though.
