And guess what? It's another Gamecube game! I know many people are still frustrated that the Wii doesn't have the game that is the archtype for all other games that follow it. Of course they are coming, it's just it's...well...I guess we (and me) are all just impatient. People criticize the Wii and it's games. Wii supporters say the best has yet to come. It's just frustrating that all the games available have faileld to fully use all the Wii's power to it's full potential.
9.0
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, is not any different. IGN just gave the game a 9.0, so it is a borderline AAA title. But we already knew that, right? And not just IGN, but the game seems to have gathered the average score of 9.0 across the board. (Many people are not particularly fans IGN's "nerfed" reviewing system.) I wouldn't be surprised though, if as more reviews from other sites are factored into this average score, we see RE4:Wii's score dip a bit into the high 8's.
Good controls?
While waiting for this game to be reviewed these past few weeks, I've had this sinking premonition that Capcom would screw something up, or just tack on the motion controls and the review scores would tank just like the PC version. But, apparently the controls are pretty solid. I do believe Resident Evil cames have always had awkward control schemes in the past, and IGN basically says it's the same here as well. Once you get used to turning the character with the analog stick and what not, it should become quite a fluid experience from that point on.
That might be hard for me to get used to. I spent quite a lot of time throughly playing Call of Duty 3, and Medal of Honor: Vanguard. Not because they are good games, but I was savoring the new way to control a shooter on a console (and I love WWII). Even the slight changes from COD2 to MOH:V were very difficult (for me) to get used to at the first part of the game, especially since I played them back to back.
From IGN's review, it's said that the Wiimote does not turn the characters view at all. That might take some getting used to for me, but when I think about it, it is actually quite relieving because I an reminded of all those times I've accidently jolted the Wiimote the wrong way (or dropped it) while fighting the Wehrmacht, and thus losing my field of vision and getting killed. Resident Evil 4, will definitely turn the heat up when it comes to getting to close for comfort with the enemy, so, I assume Capcom made a smart move here.
It's been fun, but I do hope this is the end of the ride...
Capcom, I held out from playing Resident 4 on the Gamecube, because I wanted the extras that came with the PS2 version, so I waited it for then. Then you announce the whole package will be on PC, and so I hold out even longer for that. You screwed that up, and then you announce it's coming to the Wii! Okay! Enough of this running-in-circles nonsense! No more Resident Evil 4 games please! I just want to play this game and enjoy it without worring I'm going to have to buy it again!
Capcom does have an unusual reputation within the gaming community. They can make some killer games, and yet commit some very stupid mistakes that seem us, on this side of the fence, as something easily repairable.
This is a short, but very sweet movie by Monty Oum, whom recently set the internet video game community ablaze with his epic Matrix/Star-Wars-esque rendition of a battle between two popular video game icons: Samus and Master Chief. Samus, whom is undeniably much more stronger, almost had the chance to rape Master Chief, until the Covenant interfered.
Icarus, however, is a bit different. This pays a tribute to the style of movie one would see that is directed by John Woo (who in the past optioned the rights to a Metroid movie?). This movie was acutally made my Oum as a part of an official contest* for (John Woo's) Stranglehold (the game), which he thinks he won't win because he already violated a few of the rules. Not that my opinion matters, but I think that since this movie is so prodigious given the parameters allowed, I would hope that the judges of this contest would overlook any minor discrepancies that would hinder Icarus from placing.
Here are the rules and prize information:
Anyone here at Destructoid want to take a shot at this contest? An almost phobia (fetish?) of wolves has quickly spread throughout the website, so no doubt any movie to come from this neighborhood would probably something akin to this:
Enough with the distractions! Go watch Icarus already! It will only take a few minutes, I promise. I am also anticipating Monty's next project in which he says "will top this (Icarus) a hundred fold. And will be crazy sexy(?**) to boot."

IGN AU: You mentioned earlier that you actively rejected Microsoft's Live Anywhere strategy. How the hell did they take that? Were they edgy about it?
Grant Collier: We said no and they didn't call back.
IGN AU: (laughs) So what were the discussions like?
Grant Collier: Our rep left us a message saying 'hey, want to talk about this, Live Anywhere, it's big, it's cool', and I thought, well yeah, if you're playing online poker, but who wants to be playing an RTS on a console and have some guy on a PC clicking and dragging all his troops, attacking your base while you're sitting there with your thumb sticks. So I think for FPSs and RTSs, no way, but for, y'know, card games or Tetris or something like that. There are games that I think it's cool for, but there are other games where I don't think there's any point. So they just didn't respond.
----------
Now, what made my day is, this article came up on Digg, and this seems to frustrate a lot of the Live-boys. PC vs. Console debate ensues.
Probably my favorite comment in the PC's favor:
----------
Why does the Infinity Ward guy have to be such an asshole? I mean, Microsoft clearly would like game developers to develop games for Live Anywhere and they only way to get the word out is to go to the developers themselves. A simple no thanks would have be more appropriate. Quite unprofessional.
RE: Unprofessional is having to nerf your PC version so that players on the console have a chance...
Why should IW not have the ability to make each platform independently fun and enjoyable?
And why the fuck should I need vista to play a god damn video game on my computer? So I can put on a headset and listen to some twelve year old assclown on an xbox shout cursewords and call me a newb all day long...
No, I think I'll stick to PC games and team speak - that run on XP.
----------
So, pretty much everyone on the PC COD front, hates Collier for what he did with the franchise. And now, he is making more enemies on the Xbox/Live side. Well, at least he's not that stupid since he know's Live Anywhere is a bunch of crock, even if it is just for the unfair advantages PC users would have. Regardless of what he's done or what anybody thinks, all three COD cames (COD/UO/2) are still very popular PC games online, even to this day.
Or maybe he still is a 'tard and he realizes the community IW pretty much abandoned two years ago is watching his every move.
Another JRPG for PS2? You better believe it! These days, even with a heated next-gen battle going on, japanese game developers still manage to pump out these suckers. You'd think, on a playing field where you can get JRPG's for a dime-a-dozen, maybe they would move on to a new medium. I'm not up to speed with with each console's status japan, so I would assume PS2 is still a viable platform, which is sad, but not surprising.
Gametrailers.com is probably the only place I ever get to see trailers and media coverage for JRPG's, and games that are not necessarily destined for a world-wide market. They did manage to showcase a new game called "Shining Wind". This game follows suit with the others with most of the art being of the anime variety (nothing wrong with that). Shining Wind, is the sequal to Shining Tears, which got average reviews across the board.
I've never played the first game, so the Shining series would be completely new to me. My favorite JRPG, would probably be Chrono Trigger, which I have had a very strong urge to play recently. When I watched this trailer, I found it very similar to Chrono Trigger/Secret of Mana in art, style and combat. Perhaps there are tons of games out there just like this, I don't know. I don't usually play this type of game, and it looks like it could be that thing we call "fun" we used to have so much back in the day. The melee fighting as well, as using the gun (is it a gun?) is really something I've been wanting to play. So who knows, I might pick this up, just for the heck of it.
Although, that girl yelling "AEE AEE AEEEE" would definitely get obnoxious over time, as it did in this trailer.
Edit: I fail at embedding. Click here to view the trailer.
We've been hearing about Destructoid's site overhaul for quite some time. We've been hearing about Japanator's overhaul even longer. Now that Destructoid is at Porter's, getting washed and ironed out to look nice and pretty.
Yet, I wonder just who, or what, could be next in line?
Now, I am not trying starting any rumors. This is just good, ole' fashioned, innocent, speculation, and nothing more.
