I don't know about you but RetroforceGo! has an odd effect on me. It might be Chad's optimism or Topher's pessimism or possibly even Dyson's pizzarollism but when they talk about things I have a powerful urge to buy stuff I didn't even know existed before I started the podcast. Up till now it hasn't been anything too substantial, a couple of Snes cartridges here (how the heck do unicycles race by them self?) a couple old school rpgs there, ( Guilty?! Just because I picked up a damn locket before I talked to her?!) on the whole RetroforceGo! has pointed me toward a lot of great stuff I'd missed out on growing up as a PC kid.
As any regular listener knows each cast member has a few things they love that tend to be brought up on a regular basis. Dyson loves pizza rolls and the Goodwill, Colette loves chocobos, Chad loves dolphins and abusing the elderly, Stella loves Japanese rhythm games I've never heard of, and Topher loves slurpees and the Dreamcast. So after years of hearing how awesome the Dreamcast is from the gang at Retroforce I finally took the plunge and bought a used DC from my boss. For the reasonable price of $40, he sold me the console and game collection pictured below:
I've sampled most of the games and have to say I'm pretty happy with my purchase. The system seems to have a lot of heart and I can't wait to get a little deeper into some of these games. I'll throw out the generic "I've bought a new system what games should I buy" question, any suggestions are appreciated.
So once again thanks RetroforceGo! for continually broadening my horizons and keeping me endlessly entertained. Here's to you.
Cool, RFGO inspired me to buy another SNES. It's a beautiful thing...I've yet to listen to the latest episode but I really hope it doesn't make me go out and get a pinball machine...
Well, to be honest, a lot of the good Dreamcast games have started to come up in price over the years (Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and Power Stone 2 are all still about $50-60).
However, there are still a few cheap, great games out there. Definitely pick up Jet Grind Radio (about $15), Soul Calibur (about $10), Skies of Arcadia (about $20), MDK2 (about $15), and Chu Chu Rocket (about $10).
But then again, if just play your copies of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and Crazy Taxi, those two games should last you a good long time. They've got a lot of life in them.
I love my Dreamcast, so if you've got any questions, feel free to hit me up. :D
Wow! Very nice! I'll have to check with my friend and see if his daughter is done with my Dreamcast... and if it's still working.
I actually just found a copy of the Dreamcast Web Browser disc... I recognized it from your pic and remembered seeing it in passing the other day. I guess I should give it away or something if I don't get my Dreamcast back!
... seeing that layout brought back many fond memories!! :)
YAAAAY this pleases me. Try out all the games suggested by everyone, most of this console's library was incredible. Home to some of my favorite games of all time.
Ikaruga, Project Justice, Soul Reaver, Rayman 2, Vampire Chronicle for matching service, Capcom vs SNK 2, Guilty Gear X, TriggerHeart Excelica, and the Last Blade 2 (final) are some of my favorites, along with the aforementioned. However a lot of these are imports, hard to find, or expensive. If you're interested in NOT-burning dreamcast games, let me know, I'll send you a PM...
Congrats on the Dreamcast, that's a nice selection of games you've got there! As far as recommendations, I'd like to direct your attention to these articles on Racketboy.
For a sports game, NBA 2K was actually a lot of fun. Shenmue anyone. Having a virtual job of driving a forklift was incredible, I've never been that excited for work before in my life.

I actually own Skies of Arcadia on the gamecube, though I haven't played it past the opening cinematic. I hear the GC version has less random encounters and a couple extra missions but it's harder to get Vyse. My local store does have Space Chanel 5 but without the case or manual, I'm kinda a stickler on that.

My local indie game store has most noteworthy Dreamcast games for $20 bucks, is that fair pricing?
Also, what's the prognosis on Seaman, the store has the game and mic for $20 and it's always intrigued me but it seems like it might be a waste of money.
I need to start listening to this podcast. I never have and it was because I was on a crappy internet connection before. I am really into older systems though.
Here is why. (Disclaimer: I have not yet beaten DAO. I plan to try to go through the rest of it, and because of this, some of my points may be invalid. )

The architect who could have put Cardiff on the international architectural map is now having a similar watery time in London where question marks have been raised over her gorgeous designs for the showpiece Olympics Aquatics Centre, a £303m truly iconic landmark building that really will be a lasting legacy of what is otherwise a huge waste of our money.Beachbody Coach
