Cool, I'm from New York and remember seeing the towers on fire with my own two eyes. I was in the 6th grade, my class went up to the rooftop of the school and saw the towers up in flames.

I think what Bakewell said is true. He's dead, great, a lot of people deserved to see this day (9/11 victims, soldiers, families affected, etc), but its not over. I also think the partying is ridiculous, here at USC the fraternities took it upon themselves to getting plastered and badgering people who aren't going nuts too. Like I said, I'm happy, the job is not done, and have some decency people. Also, fuck conspiracy theorists.

I think celebrating the murder of anyone, regardless of the crimes they have commited, is barbaric. For a nation that holds true the values of freedom, innocence until proven guilty and the right to a fair trail it seems this dark aged mentality pushes Americas holier than thou stance into oblivion.

Also. The celebrations in America leave a foul taste in my mouth. Had Osama been captured shortly after 9/11 then I could understand the joy. As it stands it took a little under 10 years, a massive war that's cost everybody a fortune and thousands of extra lives have been lost in the process.

I see no reason for joy when so much has been lost and I certainly don't think the life of 1 man will ever make up for that.

Sadly, the death of Osama Bin Laden is not going to change anything. Al-Qaeda's figurehead is dead, but their operations will continue nonetheless. Really, his death is only symbolic. If, for instance, Barack Obama was assassinated then sure, the President of the US would be dead, but the government wouldn't just break down.

Anyway, I completely agree with Bakewell. Any kind of celebrations for the death of ANYONE, is absolutely barbaric, disgusting and pitiful.

While it's definitely a good thing to see the US follow through on their promises, it's never great that we just assassinate those who wrong us. This whole war on terror has seen us kill a bunch of leaders and yet our nation is cheering over deaths. BLEGH!

I gotta agree that I find the partying a little weird, I can see why some people would be happy but I thought if anything this day would be a sombre affair. Seeing people whooping and hollering at ground zero is just a bit.....I don�t know.

I don't think the partying is ridiculous at all. People are just letting off steam. Nothing wrong with cheering on your enemy's defeat - death or not.

It's still not going to change anything, though. They'll call it a "psychological victory" or whatever lol, and things will continue as they have been.

It's good to see something go our way in that big pit of suck. The servicemen/women definitely deserve some attention and appreciation though even if it's probably short lived.

I never found the death of someone to be a cause of celebration, whether it's the Pope or Michael Jackson or Bin Laden. I expected comfort from those who have been directly hurt by this man and hope for the culture of hatred to be dissolved - not a fit of whooping.

Well, the US army and al-Qaeda are so not friends now (even more). They may be so angry they might do something drastic. Anyway, I can only hope for this event to be a signal for the final stretch of this chaos.
