Quite simply, Destructoid is the best gaming-related site I've ever been on, for several reasons.
First off, the community is awesome, largely because it seems so small. The same names seem to keep popping up in comments on the main blogs, the community blogs, and the forums. I always love seeing SuitcoatAvenger's latest artwork, or reading the Cblog Recaps. When you compare DToid to other more popular sites like IGN or Gametrailers, the users/members are generally much smarter.
I haven't really seen a single troll on the site, except for the occasional avatarless user who signs up just to post an inane comment on something or post a pretty crappy blog where they rant in broken grammar about something or other.
I do feel a little out of place among all of you veteran gamers, because I only recently got into gaming (and by "recently" I mean in 2007). But I have never felt unwelcome.
I also love how I often see really offbeat stories on the main page.
Most of you probably have been on the site for a while, so you all know what I'm talking about already. Nevertheless, I felt I should profess my love for this website.
Update: I'm sorry, recappers.

PUPPIES FOR YOU!
So much has changed since I joined. Dtoid now is just a shadow of what it was, at least where the community is concerned. The news is still great, but there are fewer random posts than there once was. That may be because Jim is trying to be a legitimate journalist (which is fine).
Do I dislike Dtoid today? Of course not. I love it here. It just used to be a little better is all. I kind of miss the wild west feeling it had long ago. It was kind of like IRC but on the main site.
And we keep drawing great new people!
Hail Destructoid! :)
Also, welcome.
I just want to make clear that I love Dtoid, which is why I'm still here, I just miss the strangeness and randomness we seem to have less of these days.
I think I meme could help.
Like half an hour ago, I just posted about it.
And holy shit, our trolls are gone? I know Heretic and Reaprar got booted, but no one just naturally assumed their place? Weird.
Wait, Mr. Sadistic is gone?! Then...then who loves me?!
It's fucking awesome here.
I guess, but.........it just feels different...doesn't it?
It's not bad, it's probably for the best, but I just miss the giant gang rapes on bad blogs and random shit from people like Lemon and Mxy.
I don't know, maybe I'm just being optimistic on the past. Maybe it really wasn't that great.
Also, who is MrSadistic?
Its okay man. I came here just in time to know what you're talking about, and, I agree, it was alot different.
But, <3 Destructoid
You have somehow made me feel old by asking a question about the video game site I like. Mr. Sadistic was a community member who apparently isn't here anymore, I guess. Cool guy, seemed to be everywhere at once sometimes.
As a what-the-hey, I threw some work up on here one night (while drunk), and lo-and-behold, got some pretty positive feedback.
Cut to a couple of months later, I'm featured on Art Attack Friday, pumping out work on a regular basis, building up my portfolio, and kicking it rad-style with a new, strictly art-focused desktop rig. The funny thing is, I'm doing the best work I've ever done, but had it not been for the good vibes from some good people here at Dtoid, art would probably be the furthest thing from my mind.
I know right.
I only have 7 Comment Posts in them.
I still appreciate DTOID though. <3
It's cool to hear that dtoid pushed you to better your art.
I'll admit, I don't get up here to the cblogs/frontpage as often as I should, sorry, the forums are serious businees, and it has changed a LOT from what I used to know, I still LOVE the site, the community, and what I get out of it. Which, tbh, is a timewaste and serious (and not so serious) discussion of mah favorite thing: games. And that's why I love it, it's a place for friends to get together and bullshit about video games, what they mean to each other, and why we have so much fun doing what we do.
I felt that way about 3 months ago, but its the fucking internet. I love everyone who is associated with this website. I just don't like a lot of the bullshit that comes out of some of these new people.
With that being said.. I like this Arkhon and agree with him whole-heartedly.
Wasn't his the one about Ron giving him a call? That post was one of the reasons I joined here.
It's amazing that it still feels intimate while the site grew 30% since 2008. Whoot!
I'm glad you love the community! We tell it like it is, and don't sugar coat it.
However, it is a testament to the spirit and more importantly, work of the people who work on this brilliant site that Dtoid feels as fresh and great at it always was, just a little different.
Keep up the phenomenal work Niero. :)
@Mag You are welcome in IRC anytime, make a trip or two and see if you like it or not. :)
