Hey everybody, thatīs my first blog entry, so please, donīt be to strikt:)
My theme is, as always, the new Modern Warfare 2. Iīm from germany, the "killergamez"-country, so iīm blogging about the situation, how I see at as from now. My opinion is, that Infinity Ward just wanted to make some PR via the "No Russian"-LeveL at the expense of the gaming community. I mean, watch some interviews Robert Bowling has done months before the release, he told that the game, everytime you shot at a civilian, stops and that you automatically failed. But at the bottom line you have to do exactly that at the above-named level. I mean, when the next time someone goes crazy and startīs a rampage, and itīs allmost sure there will be one, the government starts to check his computer and/or the console. And after the phenomenal release of the game nearly every teenager will have it, apart from if itīs legal bought or not. Everytime one goes crazy, the so called "experts" start to discuss about "killergamez" (bad word) and the argument will come, that shooter exist just to kill bots. We, the gamer, allways tell them that itīs not about killing another, itīs about teamplay, skill and tactics. But after the NR-Level in Modern Warfare 2, we canīt take this argument, because of you have to do exactly that at the mission. And the experts donīt care, if itīs one game out of thousends. As I already said, if there is a rampage again in germany, the media and the "experts" will say "Hey, look at the game, und look at what he has done, donīt you see a parallel?" And then we, the (german) gamer community, the industry, can make excuses. When I think about that mission, I just get angry at the idiots over at Infinity Ward, who have made this mission and even get paid for that. I donīt understand that.
Thanks Anthony
PS: Criticism is welcome

"bang bang ur dead, lol."
You gotta understand the setting of the whole situation. During that level, the character is deep, deep, deeper-than-Borne, deep undercover. He don't mean to kill all the civilians like the bad guys he's supposed to be getting close to are, but he has to because that's part of his job. He signed up for it, he's told he's going to have to do things that he should never (in game as well, I believe) have to do, but he's going to do them anyways, because it's for the protection of his country, and quite possibly his world.
It's the whole Moral Sacrifice thing media likes to use. It's supposed to make up look at our own morals and question how far is to far and stuff like that. Otherwise, the No Russian level is no different from all the slasher flicks out there, just less hot chicks and dead-people-come-back-to-life and more guns. Believe it or not, I've encountered more distressing topics in a book based around Particle Physics.
Sure, people have a reason to be scared and a little pissed, and they should be, "No Russian" is a hard level to swallow mentally (believe me, I was plain scared when I saw it on TV), but as I said before, Infinity Ward did it purely for story development, not because they could or that they wanted some PR.
And Infinity Ward doesn't need extra PR. Every time Treyarch makes a CoD title, they automatically get flack for not being Infinity Ward, and then everyone goes on a tirade about how great Infinity Ward is. Hell, IW got PR when Killzone 2 came out, over control layouts.
Also, for CRITICISM; Paragraphs, and moar Pictures.
Finding a dead American after a horrible terrorist attack on an airport, just gives the Ultranationalists a reason to invade America. It's a violent terrorists attack because Makarov learned from Zakhaev, and both didn't give a shit about civilians. Why should Makarov suddenly lighten up? Makarov wants to make a very valid point(a point being, "FUCK AMERICA, and Europe too!"), and that attack(and blindside) was exactly what he needed.
You gave a bit of background to the mission there, which is fair enough. But when/if something does flare up and MW2 is looked at as an "influence", I severely doubt that people will read into the context of the mission. It's just going to be LOL PANIC YOU IGNORANT FUCKTARDS THIS IS EVIL LOL. Which sucks.
Could do with being a bit longer too, but that's just my preference.
As for the post, you make a valid point, as do Daxel and Jon. It's a sensitive thing, to be sure, but I have to give props to Infinity Ward for making us think. The whole plot of the game almost serves as a warning to me. "If we keep doing what we're doing, this is what is going to happen." It's scary stuff.
HA! That's awesome, I never knew what font that was.
I never even knew about dafont! cool!
