If you go to a used game shop you can probably pick up Diablo 2 and the expansion for cheap, you will probably have to hunt around for it, though. I got mine shortly after it came out and, oh god, did I ever waste a heap of my life on it.
It was a very fun game, rather simple, but still fun. Also, I am totally ordering the special edition of Diablo 3, lining up for the release of it, and giving my soul to Blizzard if it's any where near as good as Diablo 2.
@ThunderHeartXI: I totally believe you. I knew SO many people that were absolutely addicted and still are. By the way Diablo 3 looks so far, I'm sure it will be. Well and I don't really think Blizzard has made anything made of fail. Closest thing to fail that they created was and is World of Warcraft, but that's just an opinion. :)
No, Blizzard has yet to release anything that majorly fails (except maybe that one Game Boy racing game that no one remembers) but you have to remember that the team who made Diablo 2, and maybe one, Blizzard North, have disbanded and a lot of them went and made Flagship Studios. So I'm a bit uneasy about this game, but I think they'll make it at least relatively good.
Also, World of Warcraft is probably the best in the genre (I played it since launch till the end of last year), but it does fail as a positively impacting game.
I never got into it either, played single player for a tiny bit and gave up on it. Obviously multiplayer is where it's at but I didn't know that at the time.
Still, I'm interested in the title, and will probably pick it up. It's the only Blizzard IP I actually have some interest in.
I know what you mean. I haven't played any of the previous Diablos but I want this one really fucking bad. I'll probably pick up Diablo 2 just to past the time.
I’ve never played any of the Diablo or Fallout games, because I never had anything that resembled a gaming PC. I’m not too interested in Diablo’s gameplay, but then, I haven’t taken a look at any of the Diablo III stuff yet. I’m pumped for Fallout 3, though...
Yes, if you have the money to spend, definitely pick up the Battle Chest. It is a great deal for some great games. I've been playing Diablo 2 on Battle.net off and on for years and years, and it hasn't lost any bit of fun to me. And it'll run on most PCs, if it runs on mine. I love it.
I'll probably have to wait until a console port of Diablo 3 to play it, my PC sucks. But then again the console version (if there is one, but I doubt it) will probably suck, so I won't bother.
Yeah, seriously. You can run Diablo on an Etch-a-Sketch.
Personally, I liked the first one better. It was more streamlined and straightfoward, and not quite as long. The second is good and really polished, and I played the balls off it as well, but it got a bit more complicated.
You could add jewels to your rubies and there were special armor sets you could collect, but you could never really take advantage of it unless you played online. D1 was a better single-player package, IMO.
Man, I initially thought about telling you to just go ahead and buy yourself Diablo 2 along with the expansion. But i then decided to make a complex line of thought just to make things worse. I'm new here, might as well make myself useful.
Yeah, do get Diablo 2 and the expansion. You're gonna love it. Just stay the hell away from the single-player mode. It's very depressing. The game design made me feel like shit back then. It was grey-y and sorrowy and lonely. It was meant to be this way, but the graphics of the game didn't really age that well, regardless the art design being slightly above the average. I tried playing one of these days and at the same time it evoked that beautiful and simple pick-up, play and have tons of fun gameplay philosophy and a very sad feeling due to the fact that things are no longer consciously ugly. My answer was going online =D The feeling of PARTY is very present in this one, because things aren't just dangerous. They're ugly, scary, and ALWAYS unknown, due to the randomic dungeon nature. At least to me, Diablo is a group thing. Doing it all by yourself is a brilliantly sad experience justified only by the fact that you'll use it in online gaming. And with Diablo 3 so close, you probably won't have a long life in bNet. Which is a good thing. You'll only see the beauty of the game, avoiding the last part of endless leveling and treasure hunting, uncalled-for PvP and stuff. By the way, I miss Ultima Online. Miss it as much as I hate it.
Ok so heres the deal. Blizzard supports Digital Downloads of the games they release. So if you have a legit cd key, you dont need a disk. I just bought some cd keys from this website for $6 but havent tried them yet. You really cant beat the price.
I should have elaborated a little bit. If you register on Blizzards website you can go to http://blizzard.com/store/ and enter your cd keys and if they are legit it will prompt you to download the actual game.
2.Paypal the money to these shady people and wait for your keys to arrive via email. Mine took a little over 24 hours after I had emailed them asking what was up.
3.Register at Blizzards website and go to My Account. Under the controls tab on the right, near the bottom should be a games button. Click that and enter your keys.
4.Once you enter the keys (I say it in plural because D2 and the expansion each have separate keys) The games will apear in tabs. On the right of each tab is a button to download for either mac or pc.

That game is still good.
Pick it up and try it, it´s addicting, and even more fun in LAN.
2. Buy Diablo 2 Battlechest
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
Also, not incredibly interested in Diablo 3.
Maybe if it was on console, though.
Just seems like something that would play better with a controller . . .
Meh. Maybe I should watch more of the videos . . .
Diablo 3 looks to be improving upon the variety... and I have no doubt it will do that in the other aspects as well.
DO WANT
@Samit Sarkar - Diablo 2 runs at two resolutsions. 640x480 and 800x600.
