About

Yo East Coast, where you at?

Hello, fellow D-toiders, my name is Andrew and I reside in New York City. It has been such an amazing experience being a part of this wonderful community. From my activities as a host of the Friday Night Fight events to becoming one of the community members responsible for handling the Destructoid NY group, coordinating East Coast meetups to helping the PAX meetup group, I have loved every minute of my time spent with this community.

Please hang out with other Dtoid members whether it would on the main site or chatting to your local Dtoid group. It can be life changing, trust me on that.

Hey everybody, members of Dtoid will be at the upcoming New York Comic Con. Our meetup plans will take place in the evening as every night during the show we will meetup at the convention center and then head out to a different restaurant in the city. (Note: Please buy a Metrocard as we will be doing some significant traveling during the weekend)

There is a special emphasis on Saturday night as we will be doing karaoke that evening. When I nail down the location of which karaoke place we will be using, I will let you know asap. By the way, one of the potential karaoke places that we may use has SA2's Escape from the City as a singable song, hence the title.

If you need anything else (such as a way to contact me for more info) that weekend, either PM me or contact me at andrew.benton at destructoid.com and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.

My Family

Hey guys and gals, it has been a while since I last wrote a cblog for this fantastic community. As some of you might have heard, I have an Aunt, who I have been really close to for a long time, struggle with cancer and is just about to start hospice at home. While she was hospitalized, for long periods of time, I was tasked with a huge responsibility, the care of my other Aunt, who has Down Syndrome. It has been a rough summer to say the least.

Just today, there was a conversation about an artist that both of these Aunts has seen at some points. An artist that has what I consider to be one of the greatest albums ever created, Carole King. When her name was mentioned, I was instantly reminded of a song that embodies what I like about Dtoid.

A fantastic song

When you are at your lowest of lows and the world around you isn't treating you right, the good people here will hear you out and try to support in the best way that they can. One of the people from DTNY reached out to me after I talked about this and offered me his ear (figuratively) if wanted I wanted to talk about this situation. I haven't found too many places with such supportive people in my life.

So, to Solar20XX or anyone else on this site, if life has got you down and you need to someone to talk to, just contact me. Also, if you going to PAX next week or are planning to come to NYC for a visit and you want help getting around or need help meeting other Dtoider , you can contact me as well and I will do what can to help you out. Remember, when you are active with the Dtoid crew, you have got fantastic friends.

PS: Shout out to DTNY peep TT and his fiance Anna, who are getting married this weekend. DTNY will be there to celebrate all weekend long.
