Hardcore gamers sure are insecure aren't they? Look it's the same fucking Xbox 360 you have now with some nice bonus features. If you press the guide button you get a mini blade system just like the actual 360 interface now. Besides the Avatars could actually be fun depending on how much they let you customize. I've seen a bunch of celebrity Miis and such online. I even saw an Admiral Ackbar which looked just like him, so yeah relax.
I don't like the Avatars either, but if I still get Fallout 3, Gears 2, Rock Band 2, FF13, and Star Ocean 4 I think I will live.
Avatars that will most likely require you to BUY shit for to even have a cool one...just more ways for them to suck money from our wallets.
Are you kidding me? They just got Final Fantasy as well... be happy about it. That should salvage some Hardcore gamers.. I just hope you can make it through 160+ hrs with out a redring.
I can understand why some gamers might view the idea of avatars as a little mainstream, even childish. However, I'm not particularly one of them, but can see why it might be an issue.
Perhaps Microsoft would do well to consider this, and have the two alternative displays available, so that you can choose between the two in your xbox settings (adding the new features into the existing/traditional dashboard layout for those who wish to retain it) whilst making the avatars optional by retaining the gamercard.
However, as I am not a developer/programmer I don't really know how workable this would be.
Obvious troll is obvious.
@Kepler
Thats a good idea, sounds like Linux with Ubuntu Berry.
@Anti-Pro
While the last thing I want to do is DEFEND the Avatars, I think you can unlock clothing and shit with your achievement points. Isn't that EXCITING!?
@Kamiikaze
Agreed.
Most of these are cool bonuses, be happy dude, you have MORE choice now,Anti PRO, I thought you would be happy with more choice. Now the effectivness and use if theses new choices are debatable to a degree, but more choice the better, surely? Don't forget FF13 as well.
BUT, dude you're right, the new avatars suck ass, WAY,WAY too NINTY like.
where does that leave your hardcore gaming friends
Umm, with a lot of "hardcore" titles coming out later this year? Are you really that threatened by the casual gaming market that you're completely ignoring all the games being released this fall?
Holy shit, the avatars are making me less hard to the core!
We all know that the avatars determine whether our gaming experience will be great or not. LOL @ anyone who hates the avatars. You have my pity.
Heres the biggest problem with gaming (and this website in general) This is an obvious "hardcore" gaming blog. Now I LOVE destructoid and everything it stands for. What I don't like is this new wave of "hating casual." Its like the new console wars isn't really a console war any more and about hating the new casual martket. MS is the BEST for hardcore games and they are trying to shed some of that image to get more people in on the action. Me and my coworker today were having a debate. I told her, the games are the same, its not like hardcore gamers hang out on the dashboard they are *gasp* playing hardcore games. I don't see the big deal in these avatars, its not like my 360 won't magically run Gears of War 2 now.
Are you kidding me? Did you miss Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Halo Wars, Fallout 3, and the list goes on.
Screw the avatars. You will never make me get rid of my IdolM@ster icons!
I don't think the new interface will be a big hindrance to games that most 360 players enjoy now I suspect it will actually be better due to the party features. We will have to see about the avatar thing I think alot of people will like them and some will just make the most hideous or perverse ones they can possibly come up with or utterly generic. I'm actually hoping this speeds up the blades in game and the extra features in game are a nice bonus. I can't wait to cut some avatars in half with a lancer(joking... or am I)
@Heretic you can go fuck yourself. You're obviously a Halo fan look at your page...don't even talk.
haha, cute little halo dorks. Go play your pokemons.
@Heretic
Dont say sorry, it makes you seem human <3.
How do you think Nintendo fans feel? Avatars are retarded but chill.
They're offering a bunch of great (possibly AAA) titles this holiday season like Rise of the Argonauts, Fable 2, Gears 2, Fallout 3, FarCry 2, Left 4 Dead, PoP4, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space (the only ones I could think of off the top of my head), amongst a slew of others. They also have quite a few big games in the pipeline for next year like FFXIII and Halo Wars.
I'm pretty sure THAT'S what they're doing for their hardcore gamers, which is a hell of a lot more than Nintendo can claim. Enjoy Wii Sports 2, all!
Also, Halo is so cliched it can't even be considered hardcore anymore. It's only hardcore if hardcore means "played by prepubescent boys and fraternity members exclusively who have a combined vocabulary of 25 words between both populations mostly consisting of 'fuck,' 'fag,' 'homo,' and 'teabag' along with all derivations thereof." Sorry.
The possible AAA titles coming out aren't hardcore no more. I hear GeOW2 will now feature brown-colored rainbows. And waggle controls.
Ah avatars. It's the end of the world.
