Why Destructoid? To do stuffs and write things.

Ah, gaming... isn't it wonderful? All these console wars, handhelds being almost as good as last get systems, and PCs running games near lifelike with dual video cards and quad cord processors and whatnot. Thus is why we're here, right? A gaming community gathering to share news of games, gamers, and other things revolving around words starting with "G" and ending with "ames". I kinda see myself as a gaming neutral. I love all 3 current gen consoles for different reasons. But... I guess if I did have to choose a side, yes... I would lean toward Sony's shoulder.

My forte of games rolls around in the area of fighting games and RPGs. I can hold my own in puzzles and racers around the fun level of Mario Kart. My fav fighting game? Just in case you haven't heard me preach it enough times, that would be NeoGeo fighting games... namely the King of Fighter Series. That series has multiple RPG-level storylines and does a near flawless job of combining many characters, both main and minor, into one universe without losing any of their personality. Seeing a fighting game do that just makes my brainmeats happy. Now, I'm not knocking down the great Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, or Soul Caliber (for they are all great games as well), but KoF has elements that I think hardly any other fighting game has while still staying a fighting game. You HAVE to give props to that. Of course, like almost everything Nintendo, Smash Bros is pretty much in a league of its own, and I've given many days of my life playing the hell outta that game with my brothers (unfortunately, I still suck at it).

RPG... I'd have to say that Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2 (both PS1) are the top of my list... Final Fantasy III, VII, & XII sharing that spot light. Final Fantasy is a given so I'll spare you the boring descriptions... but both VP and SO2 are RPGs that I have fond memories of... and for the generation of console that those are for I can still go back and play those almost anyday and still have as much fun. Not many RPGs have that replay value.

Anyway, I'll end this off with that. There you go... you know a lot more about me... now go back to staring at my avatar.

What I've learned from Video Games 2 1/8: The Rufus Bent Me Over Edition (see: SF4)

<walks up to the mic on stage to see the same small amount of people waiting. A slightly audible sigh sneaks out as he looks down at his clip board. "At least it's only a small talk today." he says to himself while tossing the clipboard to the side and off the stage. A cat's cry is heard as Rick clears his throat>

Peeps and peepettes, welcome to another edition of WILFVG. I'm still working on the acronym. This is going to be very very short, so I'm sure that will make you all happy. Though I have my own little (not that popular) series going, if I make this too long it'll be like I'm biting off a certain other update.

This notice is for all the Haxan's, Y0j1mb0's, and especially nilcam's out there. You guys are officially put on notice by me. This is not to say that I am throwing the challenge myself, but there is someone out there you must find and challenge.

On Friday I fought a decent Fei Long user for a bit. Just like most people I fight for a while, after a few games I got the hang of him and it was hard pressed for him to win from there. Not trying to brag at all... just the way I function I guess. Anyway, I complamented his skill as I do everyone else, and he gave me a list of friends, also non-shoto fighters, that I could get some rounds in with as well. I took the list, added all to my friends list, and continued my quest to learn more.

Person after person on that list was the same thing... I'd probably lose the first match, but then never again. Then I ran into HIM. Another Fei user I was anticipating, but he said he was in a Rufus mood so I said it was fine... how often do we get Rufus anyway?

Now, again I'm not trying to brag, but I feel I kick some ass at this point. I'm getting better with my E. Honda and Rose, and I'm touching Bison and Sakura now, and my Chun-Li? Well, you can ask some people here about my Chun-Li. I play with the 3 aforementioned names above as often as I can, and we have a grand time. Our skills are pretty matched.

But this Rufus user... oh my shit... my poor poor shit. He handed my ass to me... well... handedly. I was Chun Li the whole time, and out of the 15 matched we played I won 1 of them, and a few rounds here and there. And I have a feeling he was just trying other shit to see if they worked on the rounds and 1 match I won. It's like almost everything Rufus dide was safe... I know so many combos with Chun Li and I couldn't pull off one. By the 14th match or so, there were a couple of openings that I could of done things, but I was so burnt out and used to NOT having a chance that the opportunity was wasted.

You know how when you're trying to get better and you get those challangers that suck so much that it was basically just a bonus round for you? I felt I was his bonus round. I sucked so much against his Rufus that I couldn't learn anything because I couldn't DO anything.

So Haxan... Y0j1mb0... and especially nilcam. Look for this guy on PSN... this QisTopTier guy. Anybody else can look for him too if they want a challange. Tell him I sent ya. If you want a non-shoto challenge... this is your guy. I still haven't fought his Fei Long or E. Honda yet, but I'm still having bad dreams about his Rufus.

What did I learn from this? Just when you say "I think I pretty much own this character... I can beat almost anyone if given the chance", Karma laughs at you, bends you over, and makes you its bitch.

Thank you. Good night!

P.S. Hope you got my lil message on PSN nilcam. :)

Yeah i was playing on 36- the other day (fighting higher skilled players for training) and man i got totally whooped by him. That jumping hundred hand slap move is crazy.

Have you ever come accross a great Gen player? I don't think i've ever seen him in a ranked match.

With a nickname like his, it's no wonder he is good. :)
(For those who don't know, Q is one of the weirdest characters in 3rd strike).

I had a similar situation the other day. I just play casually, but I do fairly well against most players, but then I ran into a chun-li that just decimated my life. He had the cross up game with her down to a science and it just ripped me apart.

He was a good sport and started playing other people after a while and he won most of them still but I got in a few wins here and there.

But yeah, there are monsters lurking out there on SF4 online.

HE is actually a regular poster on Shoryuken, so I'm not that surprised. Regardless, seems like most of the D-toiders play on PS3, and that makes me sad.

Hmmm, I wonder if that Chun Li player was me. I had many encounters this past week where I play with Chun for a while, then jump to others in the Player match cuz I don't wanna seem like a bastard.

@Narishma
Thanks for that, now I understand what the name means. I remember that freak Q, and if he mastered him then it was gameover for me once I challenged him.

Yeah, I thought I was kicking ass, which I'm starting to do most cases, then I get owned by this guy and I'm put back in my place. I think if I play him a few hundred times I'll get him down.

No... not really.
