Sup fellow DToiders! Rick here, trying to keep my comeback promise of posting something more often than not. So I’m trying something out, and if I get a lot of comments and whatnot, I’m thinking I might start something here. I know a lot of people try to start series on here, most failing with a few diamonds in the rough, but I figured why not. If it sucks or if we got too many as it is, then go ahead and tell me. Be straight up like I know you could too… I want blunt answers. If it sucks ass, use the exact words. I can take it!

Anyway, as some may have figured from my last post, I’m really getting into Street Fighter 4. I know it’s not a surprise to a majority of you guys since the same has happened to you, but I figured… why not share! That’s the main purpose of blogging, right?
So yesterday I decided to sit in front of my tv and play said Street Fighter until I either had to piss, eat, or the sky turned dark… whichever came last. Since I started at about 11am, I got a good chunk of practice out the way. Got a few trophies, had a lot of battles, and gained some good skill using my new main Chun Li. I will give props to you guys… in my last post I asked for PSN names of people that would kick my ass and teach me a few thing (for instance, I stopped jumping after a sweep kick… won lots of matches because of this change!) and I’m sure some of you guys came through. Win or lose, I’ve gained lessons and experience. All I have to say about that is keep it coming. Granted, I’m winning a lot more matches, but I’ll say it’s still the matches I get my ass handed to me that I remember the most.
Anyway… TO THE POINT! I’ve learned quite a few things about online fighter habits and about Street Fighter 4 these past few days. I figured I’d throw what I’ve learned so far, get a few comments along the lines of “you too!?” and “FUCK Ken!”, we’d all laugh and move on with life.
Patience is a Russian
So during my Saturday at one point my PS3 was acting like a little punk. Didn’t wanna connect to my network when everything else that connected to it was just fine. So at that point, I decided to test my growing Chun Li skills against Zangief… on the hardest level. HOLY SHIT! I knew he was badass on hard… but oh my Jesus his throw, any throw, became the new dragon punch. It goes through anything! I though Seth was a little bitch with his version, but nothing was compared to the original.
So, during the first half of the hour fighting him, I was cursing up a storm. 15 minutes later, I was planning what food to cut back on to have the money to pay for a new Dual Shock 3 controller cuz I was sure at that point I was going to throw mine. But, during the last 15 minutes of the hour I fought him, I just laughed. All anger was gone, and I accepted the fact I wasn't going to get a round on him… not… one… round. On the bright side, the new found patience paid off in online battles. Has anyone else had this much trouble with Zangief on hardest, or do I still suck that bad?

Now that I’m playing with Chun Li a lot more, I obviously choose her alt costume. Funny enough, I got a lot of complements on it. More than a few people thanked me after I gave them a “GG” not only for a good game as well, but for giving their eyes a grand service by beating/losing to them with Chun Li’s new digs (also for not picking Ken). I think they did well with Sakura as well. Cammy… well, the camera is always on her ass anyway (what’s up with that!?!) so I hardly care. I haven’t seen Viper or Rose’s new ones yet.
The Kens come out at night… Saturday Night
So throughout the week, though I had little time to play, I got a lot of complaints of people running into online Kens. I think my favorite description was from someone on this site calling it “Ken Fighter 4: The Kenining” (I still crack up laughing when I say that). I scratched my head because I hardly ran into any Ken players. As a bonus, I got a lot of GG after fights, win or lose, from Blankas, Ryus, and even a Rose player… which was strange to some people. Then came yesterday… HOLY CRAP! I take it back… there is so much Ken that on part 5 the whole roster is just going to be different colored Kens.
Alright, so for me it’s more like all weekend was Ryu, Ken, and Akuma. Funny enough, I hated Akuma the most. About 90% of the Shoryuken players I fought jumped back and threw fireballs or tried the classic jump kick/sweep kick combo… which they paid for dealrly. But Akuma… and his fireball fever. Fuck I hate fireball loving Akumas. No combos… just air fireball, ground fireball, air fireball, ground fireball… AHHHHHHH!!!
<calms down a little>
Anyway, about once every 5 battles I actually lose to this pattern, so this is more of me kicking myself for failing against such a generic pattern. Still, I feel everyone’s pain now. Fuck you Ken… and Akuma!
Speaking of Akuma…
WTF Capcom!?
So, on my 198,657,809th fight with Akuma yesterday, I noticed something different about him. Maybe it was the color the opponent choose, or maybe it was me being a little tired of seeing Akuma at that moment and time… but his new outfit in a dark color had him looking… naked? I shit you not, I was tripping the first round cuz while moving around, being all shirtless, nearly pantsless, and still ugly, I had visions of being in a jail shower. So now you have an image of an angry, ugly, dark, naked, pissed off Akuma doing his ultra towards you.
You’re welcome…
But yeah, that outfit is a little “wow” for me. Akuma, go back to being a badass with your clothes on, thank you.
As I side note, I was reminded that when it’s night in Washington state, it’s daytime in Japan. Around 10pm when I was still playing, most of my online fighter became Japanese. Still had good times, but I was like wow. That’s when I started getting a lot of “What does GG mean?” replies after battles. Fun laughs for all.
So, all together, I learned that I think about Chun Li WAY too much now, but I think that’s alright. I’m learning that Akuma is more annoying than Ken, especially when he’s naked with a giant rope attached to his back. On a productive note, going though many hard challenges and fighting Zangief on hardest builds patience. If you can play Zangief on hardest and still have a functioning controller in the end, you’ve made progress. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
So, there you have it. I’m sure most of you guys went through the same thing. Just decided to share and stay apart of this lovely community and all that jazz. Next up, let’s see if I can get my monthly musing in on time. My life is too damn busy right now. Damn going to work and… and eating… and… paying electric bill. Wait… electric bill = gaming…
Riiiiiight, back to work for me!
I always feel guilty clicking on your blogs to look at your avatar and not reading them...
Alright, I just read it.
Now I want to get SF4
And I've never played one before.
Shocking, I know.
But now I'm going to rent SF4.

i cant say i have any trouble with gief on hardest and im far from a great player but then i havent tried playing him as chun, as for the ken spam totally sucks doesnt it, im actually enjoying playing as him but i feel guilty choosing him online and usually end up picking someone else.
Yeah, Ken is like my 3rd best to play with, but I'm just trying to play as others. Feels a little better to be peeps with a less popular character.
Damn, noticed I forgot to mention that damn intro song on this blog. I'm already hating it.
No, you're not indestructible. I just destructed you 5 minutes ago. Shut up already...
Just mute the music and keep the sound effects on...
I plug in my ipod and start jamming to some tunes.
I like the music except for the title track. I changed the language to Japanese; it's a tiny bit better, but not much.
As a Fei Long player, I feel your pain with Akuma fireball spammers. Whenever I play an Akuma, the first thing I do is dash forward. That puts me past the arc of the air fireball and throws off the Akuma players game. Most of them don't expect an opening suicide run. If they throw the air fireball after my dash, I can easily punish them as they land or use a rising dragon kick to bring them down. Another thing to note is that most Akuma and Ken players cannot stop cross ups. It's gotten me some hate mail but it's a good strategy.
I'm going to start learning Viper soon. I want to really learn SFIV and, when I play as Fei Long, I kick it old-school. Using a new character will help me learn the new system.
I feel ya Nilcam, and sorry again for my shitty connection yesterday... I was really hoping to get my ass kicked/learn something by/from your Fei Long with my Chun Li. In a few, I will have put my PS3 on a wired connection to see if that works better.
