Why Destructoid? To do stuffs and write things.

Ah, gaming... isn't it wonderful? All these console wars, handhelds being almost as good as last get systems, and PCs running games near lifelike with dual video cards and quad cord processors and whatnot. Thus is why we're here, right? A gaming community gathering to share news of games, gamers, and other things revolving around words starting with "G" and ending with "ames". I kinda see myself as a gaming neutral. I love all 3 current gen consoles for different reasons. But... I guess if I did have to choose a side, yes... I would lean toward Sony's shoulder.

My forte of games rolls around in the area of fighting games and RPGs. I can hold my own in puzzles and racers around the fun level of Mario Kart. My fav fighting game? Just in case you haven't heard me preach it enough times, that would be NeoGeo fighting games... namely the King of Fighter Series. That series has multiple RPG-level storylines and does a near flawless job of combining many characters, both main and minor, into one universe without losing any of their personality. Seeing a fighting game do that just makes my brainmeats happy. Now, I'm not knocking down the great Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, or Soul Caliber (for they are all great games as well), but KoF has elements that I think hardly any other fighting game has while still staying a fighting game. You HAVE to give props to that. Of course, like almost everything Nintendo, Smash Bros is pretty much in a league of its own, and I've given many days of my life playing the hell outta that game with my brothers (unfortunately, I still suck at it).

RPG... I'd have to say that Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2 (both PS1) are the top of my list... Final Fantasy III, VII, & XII sharing that spot light. Final Fantasy is a given so I'll spare you the boring descriptions... but both VP and SO2 are RPGs that I have fond memories of... and for the generation of console that those are for I can still go back and play those almost anyday and still have as much fun. Not many RPGs have that replay value.

Anyway, I'll end this off with that. There you go... you know a lot more about me... now go back to staring at my avatar.

Hey peeps. Been a while.

Anyway, I was hit with slightly sad news today. I lent my best friend some money and he was planning on paying me back with interest. I told him to use the interest to buy me KoF XII when it came out. On the day it comes out, he had a little emergency and had to spend the "interest". No big deal on my part... he's my best friend after all.

That "pointless to be told to you" story past, I decided to look around on eBay for a deal of some sort. Then I came across this. I know Hori sticks are the craze, or so I heard, so before I jumped on this I wanted to get input from other stick users for I never used one for consoles before... just in the arcades (I miss those times... *snif snif*). Is this a good deal? Should I jump on this? I've had good luck on eBay, so I'm not really worried about the source of where I'm getting it, just if the price for what is being offered is a deal or not.

Thanks,

-Rick

(The hell I end it like that for...?)

It's $102 on Amazon for those 2 items w/free shipping, so it's not a good deal. The stick is good for the price depending on how hardcore into fighters you are. I have the SCIV version of it and it suits my casual fighting needs fine. Better than a pad regardless.

I have that exact stick, and it serves its purpose. However, think about how your button setup would feel most natural. I have a problem with that particular stick because I'd prefer the buttons to be sloping up and not down-right. Its a good (loud) stick.

you should get it, but for less. I don't see spending that much as a bargain or anything.

Honestly? It aint that good of a stick. However it does its job, and unless you play on a much better stick you wont really notice.

What's up Rick? It's good to see those bouncing boobies again. I'm not a big fan of Fighting Games so I don't have a stick. But what CountingConflict says does make sense. Also I think the one you posted is damn ugly. But that has nothing to do with it.

Funny whenever I show up people still pay attention to my avatar. It's awesome.

I'll check around on Amazon to see if I can find that deal Blasto... thanks for that heads up.

Also, thanks for the advice CountingConflict. I don't know if I want loud exactly. Any way to lessen that on this stick or would I need another?

That stick is okay. Most Japanese sticks are clicky but this one is a bit louder. It's also difficult to mod due to the soldering and small case. I'd recommend going for either a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3, which has a Sanwa JLF stick and Hori buttons, or the Mad Catz FightStick SE which is easily modded with a Sanwa JLF and Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons. You can also look into the Neo Geo 2 stick by Exar. It's available from NCSX for about $90 and is a faithful reproduction of the stick SNK made for the Neo Geo.

Yeah all Japanese sticks are a bit loud because of the joystick, but this one also has loud buttons. The quietest sticks are the ones that have the bat top joystick that is on most American arcade cabinets. Like I said though.. good for the mooney.

What Nilcam says is true. If you're at all interested in modding the stick down the road, you should make sure the stick you buy doesn't have soldered buttons because you'll have to re-solder them if you ever want to swap the buttons. Do some reading on the Shoryuken Tech Talk Forums, there are a lot of good threads on modding joysticks and creating custom joysticks. It should give you a good idea of what would be best for you.

i got that exact same stick last year for about $20 at gamestop brand new. Its really nice the stick itself is clicky but it doesn't bother me.
