Why Destructoid? To do stuffs and write things.

Ah, gaming... isn't it wonderful? All these console wars, handhelds being almost as good as last get systems, and PCs running games near lifelike with dual video cards and quad cord processors and whatnot. Thus is why we're here, right? A gaming community gathering to share news of games, gamers, and other things revolving around words starting with "G" and ending with "ames". I kinda see myself as a gaming neutral. I love all 3 current gen consoles for different reasons. But... I guess if I did have to choose a side, yes... I would lean toward Sony's shoulder.

My forte of games rolls around in the area of fighting games and RPGs. I can hold my own in puzzles and racers around the fun level of Mario Kart. My fav fighting game? Just in case you haven't heard me preach it enough times, that would be NeoGeo fighting games... namely the King of Fighter Series. That series has multiple RPG-level storylines and does a near flawless job of combining many characters, both main and minor, into one universe without losing any of their personality. Seeing a fighting game do that just makes my brainmeats happy. Now, I'm not knocking down the great Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, or Soul Caliber (for they are all great games as well), but KoF has elements that I think hardly any other fighting game has while still staying a fighting game. You HAVE to give props to that. Of course, like almost everything Nintendo, Smash Bros is pretty much in a league of its own, and I've given many days of my life playing the hell outta that game with my brothers (unfortunately, I still suck at it).

RPG... I'd have to say that Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2 (both PS1) are the top of my list... Final Fantasy III, VII, & XII sharing that spot light. Final Fantasy is a given so I'll spare you the boring descriptions... but both VP and SO2 are RPGs that I have fond memories of... and for the generation of console that those are for I can still go back and play those almost anyday and still have as much fun. Not many RPGs have that replay value.

Anyway, I'll end this off with that. There you go... you know a lot more about me... now go back to staring at my avatar.

MvC3: My fightstick (and my failure)
Altair78 | 7:30 AM on 02.21.2011 14 comments

Been a long minute fellas. Due to pressing matters, I have to keep this short and sweet. No pictures or my usual colorful blog skills (or lack there of, depending if you can see or not).

As to not fall behind like I did when buying SSF4 6 months after it came out, I've purchased MvC3 this weekend online (should be here in a week or so, depending). Now, the first problem I had was that I have both a 360 and a PS3. All my brothers play it on the 360, and that is (one of) the reasons I got the 360 (I live in Washington, rest of my family in SoCal). But, I've had my PS3 years longer so I have many more friends on there and play that more often. When I threw the question up of which one I should get, adding what online play was better into the factor, to my Chill Bros I got a few great words of wisdom,

"Get it for the 360 and make more friends through there."

Seemed like an obvious answer. After a few echos, I got it for the 360. A few hours later, I happen to look over while playing Mass Effect and see my fancy Chun Li TE fightstick. I get a little worried when I am reminded of all the signature PS3 buttons on it.

"Meh, they both use USB and have the same amount of buttons right? I should be able to just plug it in and everything will be fine. It's Microsoft... plug N' play right?"

*plugs it in... waits a minute... cries*

This leads me to now. I guess my options are

1 - Buy the PS3 one and sell the 360 one when it gets to me
2 - Buy the PS3 one and keep the 360 one when I get it
3 - (Continue) to look for a way to have my PS3 fightstick work on the 360
4 - Get another (much cheaper, cuz like hell I'm throwing down another $175) fightstick

I'm not a big fan of buying a game twice, even if on different systems. Also, I did some research so far on the 3rd option above, and I'm finding real easy answers to have a 360 play on a PS3, but a lot more problems finding it the other way.

So, I ask you fellow DToiders, what the hell should I do?

(*I might throw this on the forum as well since I know some people don't bother looking at C-blogs)

I'd get another stick instead of another game.

the madcatz low end SF4 ones are around the price range of a new game.

if you can get the ps3 controller to work, then do that obviously.

Number 2. Because you won't look pringles.

Also, if Jayson619 rears his ugly head, don't listen. He's a tool

I would sell the PS3 stick and buy a 360 stick, or maybe find someone who wants to trade. Then I'd mod the 360 stick to work on both.

I have two TE fight sticks for my 360 (the original SFIV and Blazblue) and I plan on modding them both for PS3 once it gets an exclusive fighting game, until then I'll just keep buying my fighting games on 360.

Here's how see it, I enjoy fighting games on Playstation systems, I believe they are meant to be played on Playstation, most have always been. But if you already don't have a stick for your 360, then get one if you have the $. I'm tying to do the same thing, as I only have a stick for my PS3.

Online on both systems is almost identical, it may lagg a bit for on PSN but you will still be dealing with spammers online ALL DAY trust me, so if you make any friends on that game online at all. It will more than likely be people who don't know shit about how the game works. So if you got cash $ buy a 360 TE not SE, TE. If you don't just buy the game for PS3.

What's wrong with playing on the 360 controller!?... I'm just kidding, it sucks. *subliminal message* (Keep it for 360. Play with Chill Bros) *subliminal message*

Well manasteel, thanks for the info. I'll look into that today and hope, even if it's a cheap stick, that it's a TE stkck. And Bill, since I'll finally have a game to play with the Chill Bros on (since I don't play FPS much) I'll definitely keep the 360 version. If the stick sucks, i might have to swallow pride and get the PS3 version as well. Not going to put too much into a new stick if the initial cost and/or mod cost is way past a new game itself. Thanks for the info so far guys. Awesome as usual ^_^.

@manasteel

I tried having it ship to the store from the site, but I keep getting that it's unavailable. Even when I went inside the store to check it out (when I still thought it was there) and asked if there was a way I can get it, they pretty much said eBay and the like are my best bet.
