"Because you get to kill things" Goodness! He's a kid! Kids say things like that all the time! Not just about Video games!
Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. Every kid is going to be excited about being able to virtual kill someone. At least I would have.
Besides, what he really means is "it lets me escape and do things that I couldn't/wouldn't do in real life." For a 12 year old kid, that means being able to beat people up -- videogames are empowering, not murder simulators.
