Xbox I Hardley Knew You
Affable Robot | 7:04 PM on 01.17.2009 8 comments

Yeah that's right my xbox finally gave out. I got the dreaded old red ring of death. In case you are wondering this is my second xbox, so I guess I will be getting my third soon enough. I got my first xbox two christmas's ago so I have owned a xbox for a little over two years. My first one gave out ten months in and I had to send it in. I got it back a few weeks later just to have tons of DLC problems and it will probably happen again this time. My xbox has really made me think, what is the point? I have a Playstation 3 and Wii as well and I don't see the point to playing a system that breaks JUST FROM PLAYING IT. I really should play my PS3 more often I mean I haven't had a single problem. Also before it died it scratched my GTA IV disc just to make sure I couldn't play that at all either. So what do you guys think?

Have you got the red ring of death before?

Have any of you given up on your xbox because of it?

That sucks. You can tell just by picking each up though, that the PS3 is a better made product than the 360. Is this going to cost you anything?

That totally sucks man. Hopefully the 3rd time's the charm. ;-)

You should get a PS3. I saw a guy try to break one in a vid, he had to lift it above his head and smash it on concrete before it'd stop working. As good as the online is on the 360, the hardware isn't worth the pricetag (unlike Sony's machine).

Best Buy's replacement plan is pretty solid. One Red Ring on Thursday night, playing my "new" box Saturday morning!

Worth noting, the "Jasper" chipset, (allegedly un-red ring able . . . ish) has been reported out in the wild. Some people have finding these things down to a science:

Mine recently got a single red ring error, and without a store replacement warranty, I had to pay $100 to get it repaired. Fuck.
