The Start of an Affair and My First Blog
Affable Robot | 5:06 PM on 06.06.2008 8 comments

I would like to start this off with saying this is my first C-Blog I have ever written on Destructoid so just like to say hi everyone. But I am not really here to talk about that I am here to talk about how I got into gaming. It really all started with the Playstaion One era, I am a younger gamer so the whole NES era was before my time. I did have a Sega Genesis but I didn’t really play that. My first game that I not only got for the PS1 but the first game I ever really played was Spyro the Dragon.

I instantly fell in love with it, its fun gameplay, cool levels and witty humor. When the sequel came out I was in heaven I owned all three of the original Spyro the Dragons. However that is not where my passion really started. The game that first made me realize this is more than just some hobby I enjoy doing was defiantly Final Fantasy 9. When my dad bought it he mostly bought it for himself being a gamer as well, which is really the reason I game today. If it wasn’t for him being a gamer I never would have started. I decided to try Final Fantasy 9 I was about 8 years old and I was instantly blown away by the amazing cut scene graphics. I was really intrigued by the whole turn based gameplay. I loved it I couldn’t stop playing it. It was the first game I ever beat played right through to the end. Of course my dad did help me. During boss battles he would occasionally say “Heal that guy now” or “Next turn hit him with fire” but I still beat it ‘till the end and I was so happy.

My favorite era though was defiantly the Playstation Two era. My dad bought me one about a year after launch and our first game was none other than Final Fantasy 10. I loved it just as much as FF 9 is was so good. However that was not the only game I loved on PS2, it was my favorite system I played Ratchet & Clank my then Spyro the Dragon, Grand Theft Auto, God of War and many of the other classics. I really enjoyed Ratchet & Clank how you got huge weapons and went to unique planets and it had you laughing it really did remind me of Spyro.

If I was to say I ever had a downtime I would actually say it is right now. I have a Xbox 360 and PS3 I do love them and play quite a bit I don’t as much as a PS2 and the passion isn’t as there as much I hope I find one game to bring it back. I do enjoy reading about games on sites like Destructoid and Penny Arcade.

I listen to video game podcast as well like Podtoid and RetroForceGO! And they do keep me gaming but I don’t as much as I did. So I thank Destructoid for that. I guess I will wrap my article up now and just say I am glad to finally write a blog I hope people will read and enjoy and welcome me with open arms.

Final Fantasy 9 and 10 are two of my favorites. If you haven't yet you should really play FF6 and FF4. Those are my top two. Welcome to Destructoid.

Ratchet and Clank Games = wasting hours fully upgrading every weapon. Also, those games are hilarious! Did you play any games from the Jak & Daxter series?
