And here I thought I only had to worry about Red Rings.
Aertyr | 5:42 PM on 11.14.2008 6 comments

So, people post left and right here at Dtoid: "Ahhh! Red Rang of teh Doomz!". I promptly read the post, plug my ears and make any number of animal noises I can think of at the time. Thinking maybe, just maybe if I don't think it exists it will never happen to me. As a matter of fact it might have worked. Because I did not get a Red Ring, I got the dreaded "Video card failure"?! I know, totally scary error that happens to all 1 of me.

I think it's the mythical 8 bit gods way of smiting me. Every time I have my "One day a week" it would seem that something goes wrong. Needless to say now I have an extra Composite cable that I don't need (which I originally thought was my problem) and an unopened copy of Gears 2. For all I care, Marcus can hold his breath in that plastic bubble he lives in until get my 360 back. Maybe if Microsoft cant hear my screams they can hear Marcus's.

So anyone else have to fork over a Franklin to Microsoft for this "Video Card Failure" thing. Or am I alone in my not-a-red-ring hole of minor inconvenience? And as a side note, any of you guys colorblind because I definitely spent about 20 minutes talking to the customer support lady because she was confused why my power supply light was yellow when I guess what she wanted to hear was green (it was a really constructive near half hour). C'mon Microsoft, picking on the people who can't be airforce pilots too now? When will the injustice end.

So while your all having fun, Playing Gears, Rock Band and Last Remnant, I'll be pretending only Left4dead exists. So Dtoider's, anyone need a Composite 360 cable for cheap?

General thoughts on Soulcalibur IV
Aertyr | 10:55 PM on 07.31.2008 14 comments

After playing it on and off line for about 10 hours straight I just thought I'de drop a little blog to share my impressions.

The Internet play is amazing, no lag at all unless you battling with a Mexican who is also downloading something(Yashoki I'm looking at you).

No hero is Imba with a possible exception for Yoda. Starkiller is NOT under any circumstances overpowered. He is cheap yes, so is most other characters in this game, get over it. Before people beat me to the punch, Yes I do play Starkiller. No I'm not defending him out of sure love, try playing him sometime. It's not auto win.

It really seems like the Soul Calibur team skimped over single player this time. Which has been good and bad. Soul Calibur 4 is going back to it's original arcadey feel. Which is definitely a good thing, but the story mode takes literally 5 minutes to beat the whole thing and there is no fun secondary mode except for tower of lost souls which is really just a giant survival mode.

All and all it feels good, and I really wish you could edit any of the Star Wars characters or any of the special characters for that matter but hopefully DLC will give us that a long with Darth Vader/Yoda at a different date. At least add in a Lightsabre Style. But please make it Apprentice or Darth Vader, we don't need 7 foot Yoda's. Though that could balance him in the long run....

[EPIC]Golden Sun: The True Story

The force of the Alchemy was prevalent in Azeroth's ancient past, allowing for the development of great civilizations, but this eventually gave way to worldwide conflict that had subsided only with the sealing away of Alchemy in the ancient past. The keys to unlocking Alchemy, a quartet of magic jewels named the Dragonballs, have been hidden within the mountain shrine of Mt. Doom, which in turn has been guarded by the town of Pallet at the mountain's base over the ages.

Three years prior to the start of the game in the game's prologue, however, Team Rocket, along with a raiding party, raid Mt. Doom with the intent to take the Dragonballs for themselves, but fail to solve the riddles guarding them and are driven away by the mountain's trap, a magical game of Perfection, which is a race against the clock.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXIMRtIMJM8

In the present, the teenaged Jedi from Pallet town, Cloud Strife, Goku, and Lara Croft, join Bilbo Baggins in his research of Mt. Doom, but this coincides with a second raid of the Lost Ark by Team Rocket, who are now assisted by the Hammer Brothers, and they coerce Cloud Strife into giving them three of the four Dragonballs. However, before they can retrieve the final Dragonball, they are forced to escape from what is now an erupting Mt. Doom, with Lara Croft and Bilbo Baggins as their hostages. The guardian of Mt. Doom, Obi wan kenobi, appears before Cloud Strife and Goku and commands them to prevent Team Rocket from achieving their goal of restoring Alchemy to the world with the casting of the Dragonballs into their respective Citadel's situated across Azeroth. Alchemy, as Obiwan describes, is a power that can be catastrophic if misused by the people of Azeroth, so it should be kept sealed as it is.

[Cloud Strife travels to the Citadel in the game's overworld.]

Cloud Strife and Goku valiantly pursue Team Rocket to the first Citadel, Mercury Citadel, and along the way they are joined by other young Jedi named Misty and Naruto.

But in spite of their best efforts, they fail to prevent Team Rocket from activating Mercury Citadel with one of the Dragonballs. Team Rockets immediately leaves for the next Citadel while Cloud Strife's party immediately resumes its pursuit, and the lengthy chase and epic journey that follows eventually spans two continents, during which Cloud finds that Team Rocket has taken another Jedi hostage as well: the female Jupiter Jedi, Zelda.

Golden Sun climaxes at Venus Citadel; Team Rocket activates the Citadel with the Venus Dragonball, but are again confronted by Cloud's party. Attempting to annihilate their opponents, Team Rocket magically merge to form a gigantic two-headed dragon!

But the fierce battle ultimately ends in victory for Clouds's party as they slay Team Rocket for good. Their victory is a hollow one, though, as they come to the conclusion that the remnants of Team Rockets, headed by The Hammer Brothers, are still on its quest to light the remaining two Citadels, while Lara Croft, Zelda, and Bilbo Baggins are still with them. The game ends as Clouds’ party boards the Borealis entrusted to them previously and sail out into Azeroths open seas in search of their continued quests for phat loot and full epics.

[Massive thanks to Yashoki for the storyline and editing]

[Input Required]: PC Gaming Keyboard/Mouse
Aertyr | 2:49 PM on 07.06.2008 23 comments

D-toiders! I need halp!

Not to long ago, I bought my new fancy pants computer with fancy pants hardware but the keyboard and mouse that I originally got with it quite frankly suck. The keyboard only gets input every once in a while and sometimes just decides it wants to use 40 spaces for no reason. So I'm typing up this post on a default keyboard that came with my parents windows ME Compaq computer. Scary huh?

On top of my keyboard being unresponsive, my mouse takes about 40 million-thousand-billion battery's a second , but I really like wireless mouses. Seems like I need to find a rechargeable one.

Anyways, my question is guys: What do you use for PC gaming?

Wireless? Wired? What mouse? What keyboard? Ergonomic even worth looking into?

D-toiders. Save me.
