PC porting is a joke. There, I said it.
Why is it that when an original game comes out that is Multi-Platform it comes out with a simultaneous release (like Bioshock). But if it has ONLY been on consoles so far developers apparently are incapable of making the PC game come out at the same time (like Devil May Cry 4, Assassins Creed, Guitar Hero 3).
This has been something thats irked me for a long, long time. But recently I have been keeping my eye on DMC4. I am a huge DMC Fan, that being said I also don't have a next-gen console yet. So I when I looked up DMC 4 and saw that they are only charging 40$ for the PC version I was excited. This I thought to myself was brilliant, cheaper then the normal 50$ to encourage PC gamers to actually BUY the game instead of pirate it. I would be more then willing to hand Capcom 40$ for a solid single player game. However a few nights back it was announced that DMC4 is being pushed back until 4/1 instead of 2/5. Since this game if it's anything like DMC 1 , 2 or 3 it will have almost no replay ability this is hardly worth it to me anymore.
By the time DMC4 comes out for the PC I'll have heard one way or another all of the spoilers from my friends who actually have a 360 or a PS3 and there will be virtually no point for me or anyone who only has a PC to do anything other then pirate it.
Some games like Oblivion and KOTOR have had late PC releases and I haven't complained for the simple reason it wasn't announced ahead of time.
All I ask is if a developer is going to make a PC Port of the game and tell us (PC gamers) that it's going to be coming out as well, they should be able to release it at the same time.
I don't mean to sound like i'm ranting, but it angers me to see developers take so damn long to port a game they promised to come out earlier. Am I insane guys?

But yea PC ports of console games are horrible. Specially Halo 2 *shudders* that is resource intensive for a game that could run perfectly well on the original Xbox!

It sucks even more for games like this, I really am shocked at the number of ports, just give up on that platform.

@Kyosuke, if your a console fanboy thats awesome! But PC Gaming always has been and always will be the top of the line experience, but also the least accessible. Console gaming is in fact getting more and more popular by the second. Either way the point is that it's not hard to port to the PC.
@razerangel, I guess it just depends how we play. I played most DMC games 2 - 3 times but to me that isn't enough to pay for it when it's the same thing each time. I guess i'm just more flustered over the laziness and lack of commitment developers have to the PC.

GameSpy: Is that part of why it became multi-platform?
Kobayashi: It wasn't that the PS3 was a hard-to-work with machine. Capcom has a PC-based engine that they use to develop games and Devil May Cry 4 was developed with that same PC engine. Basically it branches out from there. You can have it on one central PC engine, and then make it compatible for the PS3 or the 360, so it's really just one workflow. So it really wasn't just that the PS3 was a hard-to-work with machine. Also, Capcom's operational goal was to release games on multiple platforms so that more players could actually play the games. Because the 360 is a popular console for both the North American market and Europe, it was natural for Capcom to branch out as well.

basically, ps3 and xbox360 are the ports. not the PC version.
their releasing the pc version much later so their sales won't drop like a tai hooker.
pc = easy to bootleg

I agree although I am happy to see DMC4 come to the PC. And it could have been like Resident evil 4 where it didn't come out til like a year later and then the controls were just so terrible (no mouse aiming, wtf?). But I totally agree how console to PC porting is just this whole terrible process that seems to not be worth it at all.

I bought Bioshock for PC and thought it was fucking awesome. I noticed nothing in it that screamed PORT in to my face.
I also bought Timeshift(lol) and although it wasn't the greatest of games, again, I saw nothing about its port that irritated me.
Stranglehold, another sweet game. Apart from the crappy resolution I had to play on due to its no 1360x768 resolutions, it was fun and entertaining.
The list goes on.
Can someone please tell me wtf is so bad about ports, seeing as the only thing Ive heard about them that is so terrible is that they have "Push [console button] to continue" and shit like that in them. I agree that it's kinda sloppy, but it's nothing that detracts from the gameplay.

The problem I have is when someone delays the port for PC for one reason or another making it almost pointless to buy it.
@Pedro, they aren't going to stop piraters either way, it's just as easy to pirate 360 games or PS3 games as it is PC. That is why the game launches at 40$. If they would do a release on all systems at the same time, maybe they would see gamers BUY The game (Shock Horror) instead of just renting it on a console like most do.

Like I said, there are some sloppy parts in segments like instructions and wording. But thats about all I can see in these apparently "horrible ports". I just want to know what exactly people hate so much about ports.

Thats what I'm saying. Why do they suck a lot? Give me some examples other than Resi 4. Because thats the only port that I've seen thats really horrible.
