Ok, now I’m writing the post-review of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Some of you may have already read my
pre-review of it or maybe not so anyways, here goes.
Overall, I give the movie a 7/10. It was just as I expected it to be, the movie was NOT as bad as pedantic fans were making it! Seriously! However, I do believe they could’ve done better in a number of places like costumes, fight lengths etc. I’ll start with the characters and their actors.
Chun-Li: I honestly believe that Kristen Kreuk was a perfect choice for young Chun-Li! She delivered the ferocity and intense passion that burns within Chun-Li’s heart. Not to mention Kristen is very beautiful. I read that fans were angry that she was white and not Asian at all. Well they’re actually wrong. Kristen is part Chinese, with some Dutch in it, which is why they probably made her mother American. Her acting was great and I hope to see more of her in the future.
Bison: Neal McDonough. I really had no problem with him, he was a fine actor and was very intimidating as the antagonist of the movie. The only problem may have been his business suit attire. Now, I thought it was fine at first, but he wore the whole film. I didn’t want to see him in that ridiculous red sailor suit, but maybe if they gave him more of a red/black color scheme it would be good in my opinion.
Balrog: What’s weird is that when I heard this movie was coming out, I KNEW they were gonna have Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog and I was shocked to see he actually was! XD He’s big, scary and buff, perfect for Balrog. His clothing was fine, it was tough-looking and intimidating, but it wudn’t have killed them to put a Balrog color scheme in there. They cud’ve made his wife beater blue and maybe put some red accents on his gloves. But overall, he was good.
Vega: Taboo. Ok, I have no problem with him, I like his music, he’s cool and he’s actually skilled in martial arts. I notice that Vega sounds more black than Balrog did in the move, very unappealing to the character, Vega. I figured this because Taboo usually makes his voice deeper in recordings like his music, wherein real life, his voice sounds great and wud’ve been good for Vega. I HATED that his appearance was short however.
Charlie: Oh lordy, lordy. T.T Chris Klein..... Ok, now I personally think they could’ve gotten someone better. Chris’s acting was a little over the top and everytime he talked, I was very aware that I was watching a movie, you know. He didn’t pull me in. I do, however, think that if Charlie was put into live-action, I imagine he’d be something like what Chris Klein tried to do, you know, the flashy officer who loves the ladies and is in to his job, but again, Chris Klein did not suit it well. (On a side note, I found Detective Maya to be pretty sexy and an alluring character. I know it wasn't stated, but Maya reminds a lot of
Crimson Viper from Street Fighter 4, in personality and the fact they share the same name.)
As for the move genre altogether.... I found the story line a tad bit shallow, but still enjoyable. I like the road to justice Chun-Li must take to avenge her father and I like the fighting she had to do on that road. But there were various parts in the movie, that kinda made no sense, as if they cut out scenes in the movie that would’ve made it seem more understandable. The fight scenes were fantastic in my opinion, yes you could definitely tell they were fake, but I enjoyed the aggression and flips and kicks that were imported, they were over-the-top and passionate, just like Street Fighter is. Fans, please, don’t be so quick to undermine this film, it did need major work, but it was an overall great movie. I personally, liked the music within the film, lots of rap/R&B music in there, like in the night club and even in the credits. I heard one song where they actually had “Street Fighter” in the song and it was cool. If your not a HUGE critical person and you’re one to give benefit-of-the-doubts to stuff that deserve it, then I believe you’ll still like the movie. If they make another sequel, I would watch it, no doubt! Especially if Kristen is gonna be in there! =D
Fix'd.
