The Falcon, a creative new idea for a PC gaming controller, has finally gained the fame it deserves. It's odd looking, and larger then the average mouse, but apparently it's gaining some "steam" in the gaming community. Valve and Novint, the creator of this device, are going to partner together to make the controller available for use on many titles available from Steam.
Valve themselves are going to allow use of the Falcon controller with their award winning titles. This includes all games packed with the Orange Box. Taking yet another step forward, Valve will be releasing a new Orange Box package later this year that is compatible with the Falcon controller.
As it stands, the controller only comes with the ball, you place your hand on it and move it around freely. There will be a gun like add on coming later, and will apparently work well with FPS titles. Like a mouse, the controller provides excellent aiming in games, and has received some nice reviews over time as well.
This little toy is priced at $239. With the partnership of Valve, and the increasing success of this controller, the price will gradually go down, and the rest of us can have our fun.
Opinion Time: While it seems like a good idea, I just don't see myself holding my hand above my desk to aim. My mouse works rather well, and why fix something that isn't broken? The size is also a large turn-off. My desk isn't huge, and if it were, I'm sure I could find more stuff to clutter it up with... Holding my hand up just seems like it could become a pain. I'm probably going to get arthritis as it is with all this WoW playing so this controller won't help.
I wouldn't mind toying around with it, however, if the price doesn't drop dramatically, I won't be picking it up.

Head over to Novint.com and see for yourself what this bad boy can do.
If it wasn't that expensive, I might have tried it :-)
Ha Ha, yeah right.
I'll get one of these as soon as I can find a job.
