goldmine of video game adaptations by Uwe Boll. I've never seen a movie of my countryman
Mr. Boll before, but if the whole internet says that his movies blow, you gotta watch them.
Starting of with Alone in the Dark. I plan on keeping this theme up, untill we run out of
Boll movies.
Or I stab myself in the eye with a screwdriver. Whichever comes first...

Yes, that's the name of the movie and yes it's just as bad/awesome as you think. Dracula
flying around in his coffin, while Wagner's "Flug der Walküren" is played in the background.
(You know, the song that is played in Apocalypse Now while they fly in on the helicopters)

K, so after getting up this Sunday at 5 am, I was thinkin: "Dammit! I love to watch shitty
movies with with the guys on Vent, but the timeshift is killing me!" So I had this idea. Let's
have a Shitty Movie Night for us Europeans.
The basic thought is to watch shitty movies from Europe or centered around Europe, at 10
o'clock CET on Saturday. That whould be about 3 am CST for americans, if they want to join
in.
That way, we do not need to stay up all night.
So I'm asking you, who would take part in it?

Maybe you shouldn't insult everyone who plays videogames. Maybe you should keep your
temper and talk to us like with a normal person. Do you talk to people like that in real life? Do
you insult them, because they don't share your opinion? Yes, there are some 13 year olds
who insult you, but that's no reason to lower yourself on that level. Or don't you know any
other way to react?
I will not insult you, but I will tell you what I think about you. I think that you try to push your
career by bashing on videogames. I think that you make up facts and ignore other facts. I
think that you are a oppertunist. I think that you are not very professional, because of the
way you react to criticsm. And I don't respect you because of that.
One question, do you really believe the things you say on tv? Really? That it's really so
simple, that videogames can teach a kid how to use a gun? That videogames are the only
reason for someone to start shooting up his school?
Com'on Jack, you got to be more clever then that. Prove it to us that you are not some Nutjob
who won his degree in law in the lottery and only tries to make a quick buck.

This just in, there are reports of a white male shooting people at Northern Illinois University,
in De Kalb, 65 miles (100 km) west of Chicago. According to the police, the man is no longer a
threat, but he wounded at least 15 people.
I wonder how long we have untill the first "experts" blames the halos, instead of asking
questions like: "Where did he get the gun?" "Where did he learn to use it?" "What where his
motives?"

Since I got asked this a few times on vent and XBL (Lauren even mentioned it on the
Podcastle), I think it's time to address this. The question is, if WW2 games are released in
Germany. Many seem to think that they are banned altogether. Short answer: no.
Long answer:
To properly understand this subject, I will have to explain some bits about the German
legal system.
After 1945, with Germany losing World War 2 and the facist government on it's way to their
trail, the old criminal code got reinstaled and revised. Part of that revision, was making all
facist symbols (like the swastika) and melodies illegal. The exact phrase for that is
"Verfassungsfeindlich" or anticonstitutional in English. This goes so far that even humming
certain melodies in public is condemnable. Same goes for the Hitler salute. So please, if
you ever visit Germany, don't do it in public. Not only is it rude, but it can get you in
trouble.
Now that you know that, you will see that violence isn't the biggest problem with WW2
games in Germany. It's the depiction of fascist symbols, which is illegal. The depiction of
violence is not. Some people
just don't like it.
But publishers still want to make money of a game like Call of Duty. So what do they do? Of
course they edit the games so that they are suitable for the german market. These edits
are usualy:
- removal of all swastikas and other fascist symbols, like the flags
- removal of certain charakter animations, like the Hitler salute
- removal of certain music, sounds and speec (most of them get redubbed [horribly]
anyway)
So in general, anything that refers to National Socialism or its leaders in any way is
removed. Symbols of the Wehrmacht (german army at the time) are okay. In some cases
the swastikas are exchanged with the Reichsadler (a Eagle symbol that was used before the
facsist got in power. They used it in a version with a swastika, but when used alone it's
legal).
Any game, and posession of it, that contains anticonstitutional material is illigal. It's not like
when they are banned and you can still buy them "under the table". Anyone who sells or
buys them can get arrested.
Of course, in most cases the violence is altered too. So no exploding heads and the like.
But with these changes, WW2 games are released in germany.
Now immagine a game where you play a german soldier who is fighting american soldiers...
Fox News whould have one hell off a day. Or to put it in another way, I don't really know
our why politicians are not crying out loud over the fact that the german kids are shooting
their granddaddies in a game, but francly I don't care. It's just a game. And it has been 60
years since the end of World War 2. So I think it's okay.

John Riccitiello, CEO of EA, dropped the bomb on when Rock Band is going to be released in
Europe. 2nd quarter 08. Which means April, May or June. So 6-8 months later then the US.
Congratulation EA, way to go. Where you thinking "Hey Nintendo is making truckloads of
money, maybe because they delay their Games half a year. Let's do that too!"
