My last name is Kruger. I was born on Friday the 13th. Seriously.
I live in New Orleans.
I love video games. All systems, all consoles, all of them. You will just as soon see me playing a 1980's arcade game as you would the latest 360 release.
I love any and all horror games. I'm a horror fanatic.
I'm also a fighting game whore, especially 2-d fighters.
I enjoy playing old school games on emulators, and love finding old school games I've never heard of before.
I just got a new gaming tv! A 40" Sony Bravia LCD! It's gorgeous for games. Hit me up on Xbox Live : TheX13thXDragon.
Other shit I like, in no particular order:
Transformers, G.I. Joe, books, MC Chris, Lost, dragons, Puss N Boots from Shrek, H.P. Lovecraft, The Dark Tower, Tech N9ne, photography, samurai, Staind, animals, beer, X-Files, lots of other shit.
Several months ago, on Thanksgiving day to be exact, my television passed away. Maybe it ate too much turkey, maybe it committed suicide, I don't know. But I do know I have been with out a television for a looooong time now. Which meant no 360 and no Guitar Hero. I was having withdrawal symptoms. No PS2, and I had just bought KOFXI and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum!!
It began to remind me of the month I spent evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. I had no TV and no consoles then, either. Then it hit me. I remembered something we bought during the evacuation. Did we still have it? I scoured the house looking for it. There it was, in the back of a closet. It was glowing like a brick of gold:
This thing seriously has A/V jacks. I totally just rocked out to some Guitar Hero III.
The giant skull & crossbones, as well as the large pile of dust, mark the place where my old tv died.
Hi-definition? LCD? Plasma? 40 inches? COLOR?!?! Who needs these things?!?!?
And just for reference, this is what my old TV looked like:
(Note the awesome MS Paint skillz)
Jesus Christ, income tax can NOT come soon enough.
@13thDragon: “hXc” is internet-speak for “hardcore”.
I feel you, man...before I picked up a 26" Samsung LCD last March, I was gaming on an eight-and-a-half-year-old 13" CRT. Four-player split-screen Mario Kart 64 on that tiny thing was tough.
Lol, four player anything on a 13" must be terrible
Samsung is actually the brand of LCD I am planning on getting with my income tax refund. Either a 37" or a 40". How is it for you? Do you like it? Do you have a 360 hooked up to it?
At first I had that Puss N Boots thing facing my bed, but looking at it staring at me at night creeped the hell outta me, so I put it on my tv. Maybe it did kill my tv. That thing is creepy.
@13thDragon: I love it. I got a solid deal on it at Best Buy, since it was a 2006 model that was on the outs by March of 07 — $679.99 + tax. It’s the LN-S2641D, and it has a built-in ATSC tuner, so I was able to get local channels in HD for free by hooking up rabbit ears to it. It has two HDMI inputs but only one set each of component and composite inputs, the latter of which shares analog stereo audio inputs with an S-Video input. It also features a VGA input, which is useful for outputting my laptop to the TV.
Aside from some banding (false contouring) issues — see here and here for more info on what that means, in case you don’t know — I’m very happy with the quality of the TV, considering that it was a part of Samsung’s “budget” line of LCD HDTVs in 2006 (the step-up LN-S2651D had a much sleeker look to it: glossy black instead of matte black). I don’t own a 360, but I do have a PS3, which looks fantastic on the TV. All of the details of the lush jungle environments of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune were rendered beautifully in 720p, and the Blu-ray of Ratatouille that I own, played back at 1080i, is a visual treat. It doesn’t have very good black levels (in other words, the contrast ratio isn’t that high), but again, you get what you pay for. I’ve heard great things about Samsung’s higher-end TVs, though...what’s your budget for this new HDTV purchase, if you don’t mind me asking? Are you looking to get a 1080p TV?
I also own a Samsung (rear projection 56 inch 1080P) I bought strictly for it's special game mode. It helps to reduce input lag when playing older (I have a Neo Geo CD and PS2 still) systems. Its a pretty good set.
You may want to look at the Vizio brand if money is a problem though. They have some cheapies that are perfectly fine for gaming/movies if you're not a perfectionist.
Thanks for the info. I'm looking at between $1000 and $1200. Wal-Mart has a 37" Samsung for $1086 or a 40" for $1243. They are 720, but I heard 1080 only makes a difference if it's over 50".
@casualweaponry
I was actually looking at the Vizios. OXM mag actually recommended one. But I think I settled on Samsung.
Samsung is the name brand that Microsoft uses to display it's 360s at shows and stuff, as well.
@13thDragon: You heard right. There’s really no reason to pay the premium for 1080p unless (A) you’re getting a TV that’s 50" or larger, or (B) you’ll be sitting within, like, six feet of the TV. Otherwise, the human eye can’t tell the difference.
Aside from the whole Gerstmann debacle, I still find CNET to be a great reference for TV reviews, so see if the two LCDs that you’re thinking of purchasing have been reviewed by the staff.

What does that mean?
Yeah, basically.
@Hamza
There you go, but it's not 100%.

After that, not so much.
