The Trailer. The Hook That Hooks you In.

As i continued to watch the Resident Evil 5 trailer for about the twentieth time, a thought came to my mind, and that thought was this,"Wow, this is a d**n fine trailer. I really want to play this game." While some elements from Resident Evil 4 may be a little to close to the new installment in Capcom's latest zombie killer, (come on, it looks very similar) I never wanted to play a game so badly.

You are first given an overhead view of the soon to be very zombie-ish (or rather infected) Haittian village your like wow. At least i was. Already, you have a strong vibe that this is going to be an unsettling view to behold, but more importantly, your interested, let me repeat that to you guys, and girls, YOU ARE INTERESTED!

Later you are shown Chris Redfield witnessing some poor chap being infected by the virus by these two brutes. Blood erupts from his eyes. -Blood- . He viciously leaps at Chris and your left with excitement thats making you lean your head towards your monitor.

As the trailer ended, i thought to myself, wow I haven't felt so excited for a game for a while. this game isn't even actually on my "To Buy List" either, its just that this trailer made me excited to buy it. Very few trailers have made me feel this way towards a videogame, one being the E3 07 trailer for Killzone 2, one of the many trailers for Bioshock, ( the one where the big daddy drills through his hand), all of the trailers for Metal Gear Solid 4, and finally to be serious, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

To list some of the trailers that didn't really grab me or as my eighth grade teacher would have said, hook me in, it would start off with Halo 3. Before all you guys get mad at me, i love this game okay! I just think the E3 07 trailer was frikin wack! To list others, Final Fantasy 13, another girl killing boring soldiers, and Haze. I think this game looks awesome, but the trailers just look like boo-boo. Real actors? Seriosly! Gameplay footage and commentary are really what attracted me to this game and the company Free Radical's past games ( Timesplitters!) oh, and not to mention those funny videos with that guy Rob Wescombe? Yescombe? Whatever.

Any way, i guess what I'm trying to say is that trailers are somewhat losing their purpose, actually making you want to buy the game and enjoy it! Even ( for games like Killzone 2 and Halo 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl) sell the system! Nowadays, trailers want to show off the number of polygons a sysytem can push or the realisic environments or wha-ever.

I f developers want a game to sell, what do you do? Give out trailers! GOOOD Trailers!

Resident Evil 5 Trailer?

That's racist, man . . .

I joke, I kid.

But yeah, it is a pretty excellent trailer. The setting is kind of fresh, as "zombie" situations go. I'm really interested in how that game plays out.

And yes, the 13 Versus trailer is EXCELLENT!

Final Fantasy 13 regular trailer, not so much.
