Blizzard will 'definitely' make a console game photo

Blizzard is undoubtedly the king of the PC gaming world, with titles like World of Warcraft and Starcraft remaining untouched successes. The RPG and strategy specialist doesn't want to just rule the PC world, however, as it has stated that console games will "definitely" be worked on in the future.

"Some real-time strategy games have tried to happen on the console," explains director J. Allen Brack. "Some of those have been successful, but overall, our experience is that it's going to be a better game on the PC, ergo it's developed on the PC.

"But we're a company of gamers. I have two consoles at home. Sam has consoles. We're a culture of gamers. We will definitely work on a console game at some point. I have no doubt about that. It's just [a matter of] what game. What makes the most sense?"

There has been talk of Diablo III coming to consoles, and I think that titles like Oblivion and Sacred 2 have demonstrated that Western RPGs can work very well on a PS3 or 360. If you ask me, it seems that if any game will mark Blizzard's current-gen console debut, it'd be that one.

Since I rarely play games on the PC I have never played any blizzard games, even though I here of their quality pretty nonstop on gaming websites. It would be very awesome if they started developing games for consoles so someone like me who doesn't like PC controls for gaming could get to try their games.

Think it's probably going to be their next-gen MMO on the 360's successor. Blizzard met with MS back in March to discuss the new system, and MS have made a few attempts at getting MMO's on the 360, but not with much success.

If Diablo 3 makes it to Consoles, there would be thousands upon thousands of happy blizzard fans. Diablo OG was on the ps1 and it was a success there if you ask me, I enjoyed it just as much on ps1 as I did at a later date on PC. Good thing about ps3 and Xbox 360 is for the fact you can always plug in a keyboard, so you can build the game around controller movement and all that on controller but allow you to map more keys on the keyboard if you wanted too.

I also haven't had much experience with Blizzard games, because I never play anything beyond Popcap-type stuff on PC. A console game or two from them would be welcome.

Kinda curious as to why Blizzard hasn't even tried to put an RTS on the DS. I do remember them putting some variation of Starcraft on the N64 and I remember the PSX version of Diabolo as well.

I do realize that RTS hasn't sold well on DS, though. It works, it just doesn't sell, people seem to like the turn-based strategy better there. I can kinda see why, but so few have tried RTS there I still wonder if it could be done better than, say, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and shed the isometric angles to boot.

Blizzard hasn't had success with RTS games on consoles in the past (Starcraft 64 cough, cough) but if anyone can make it work - it's them. I've been hoping they learned a lot from the experience, enough to warrant another legitimate shot. Or maybe ease into it with Diablo 3 and then move onto Warcraft 4 or whatever they've got in development next. It'd be nice to see Blizzard on the console because after quitting World of Warcraft (best choice I've ever made) and quitting Warcraft 3 (at least competitively) I've had a Blizzard withdrawal.

HAHAHA! So quick to forget Starcraft: Ghost? They've also already done ports of Warcraft II. I'm sure they'll work on a console game one day, of course five years later they'll cancel it. But it's cool. This is Blizzard. We've come to expect it.

Every game should be on as many systems as possible in my opinion, so even as a die hard PC-only gamer this is good news to me.

That said the real problems arise when adequate porting is not done, when games do not feel right on the platform whether that be PC or consoles. Diablo 3 will be made for the PC first and I would hope if they port it to 360 or whatever that they take the time to do the port right and make it feel like a 360 game. PC ports that feel like console games shoved on a PC annoy me to no end, like Borderlands for example, while PC ports that feel like PC games make me very happy, like Mass Effect for instance.

Same thing should be true for console. Back in the day when PC and console were much more seperated every PC to console port sucked terribly. The few, rare PC to console ports now still feel like PC games shoved on a console I think from what I have read in reviews (Dragon Age being a good example).

I hope they give warning before they release a game to consoles so I don't accidentally buy it twice. I agree it's most likely D3, due to the minimized and simplified character designs along with console friendly hotkeys. It's almost like the design already has consoles in mind.

Just don't chew up and spit out....err, I mean 'buy out' anymore indies to accomplish this for you again, please. I bet the ex Swingin Ape guys love being cogs in the WoW Factory instead of making their own games.

I doubt it will be Diablo 3. I'm still holding out for a new Lost Vikings! If they want to return to some of their console roots, why not do it with a game of theirs that was popular on consoles back then! :)

Wrong again, Jim. They're going to resurrect Warcraft Adventures for XBLA and PSN. Then branch out into mobile phones with the iPhone exclusive Starcraft: Ghost: Tilt & Roll.

Senger: Definitely agree with Diablo PSX. Not nearly as good as the PC version but for a PC-to-console port at the time it was surprisingly serviceable. More than a decade on there's no reason they couldn't do a fantastic job now, even if they take a big of the route Dragon Age did by altering the game a bit for to play to the strengths of a console.

Yeah, it's cool they're bringing them to consoles, but I'm really not going to go out of my way to get their games on anything but PC.

Sacred 2 certainly had the Diablo style play, and worked quite well on the consoles, so I've no doubt Blizzard could convert Diablo 3 to the consoles, if they wanted. I'd jut hope it'd be a proper port, rather then a quick one. Who knows, perhaps they can do Diablo 3 on the consoles at the same time as Starcraft: Ghost. ;)

God damnit anyone who hasn't played starcraft, diablo 2, or warcraft 3 needs to go pick up those games NOW. Any computer since the turn of the century can run the games and u really can't call urself a true gamer until u at least try the masterpieces that are blizzard pc games

They have a great track record with their quality games but they SUCK at making announcements and/or following their commitments (I'll not be surprised if they suddenly announce SC2 is to be released in 6 parts instead of 3).

But really, a console game would be nice. Diablo is a nice start (which would probably play like Champions of Norrath). Of course, they still have that Starcraft:Ghost build sitting idly around the office, waiting to be finally go gold.
