Blizzard is undoubtedly the king of the PC gaming world, with titles like World of Warcraft and Starcraft remaining untouched successes. The RPG and strategy specialist doesn't want to just rule the PC world, however, as it has stated that console games will "definitely" be worked on in the future.
"Some real-time strategy games have tried to happen on the console," explains director J. Allen Brack. "Some of those have been successful, but overall, our experience is that it's going to be a better game on the PC, ergo it's developed on the PC.
"But we're a company of gamers. I have two consoles at home. Sam has consoles. We're a culture of gamers. We will definitely work on a console game at some point. I have no doubt about that. It's just [a matter of] what game. What makes the most sense?"
There has been talk of Diablo III coming to consoles, and I think that titles like Oblivion and Sacred 2 have demonstrated that Western RPGs can work very well on a PS3 or 360. If you ask me, it seems that if any game will mark Blizzard's current-gen console debut, it'd be that one.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I do realize that RTS hasn't sold well on DS, though. It works, it just doesn't sell, people seem to like the turn-based strategy better there. I can kinda see why, but so few have tried RTS there I still wonder if it could be done better than, say, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and shed the isometric angles to boot.
That said the real problems arise when adequate porting is not done, when games do not feel right on the platform whether that be PC or consoles. Diablo 3 will be made for the PC first and I would hope if they port it to 360 or whatever that they take the time to do the port right and make it feel like a 360 game. PC ports that feel like console games shoved on a PC annoy me to no end, like Borderlands for example, while PC ports that feel like PC games make me very happy, like Mass Effect for instance.
Same thing should be true for console. Back in the day when PC and console were much more seperated every PC to console port sucked terribly. The few, rare PC to console ports now still feel like PC games shoved on a console I think from what I have read in reviews (Dragon Age being a good example).
AGREED
Just don't chew up and spit out....err, I mean 'buy out' anymore indies to accomplish this for you again, please. I bet the ex Swingin Ape guys love being cogs in the WoW Factory instead of making their own games.
Senger: Definitely agree with Diablo PSX. Not nearly as good as the PC version but for a PC-to-console port at the time it was surprisingly serviceable. More than a decade on there's no reason they couldn't do a fantastic job now, even if they take a big of the route Dragon Age did by altering the game a bit for to play to the strengths of a console.
But really, a console game would be nice. Diablo is a nice start (which would probably play like Champions of Norrath). Of course, they still have that Starcraft:Ghost build sitting idly around the office, waiting to be finally go gold.
Nuff said.
