Blizzard talks StarCraft II patch 1.1, rage ensues photo

Blizzard is currently prepping patch 1.1 for StarCraft II, which it hopes to get out around mid-September.

Here's what we can look forward to: more mod features, bug fixes, improvements to the editor and custom games, support for NVIDIA's 3D Vision, standardized hotkey options, and more. The patch will make "the Standard (US) and Standard for Lefties (US) hotkey options available in all regions."

And then there's the balancing stuff, which I have to imagine will anger many a vocal StarCraft II player for reasons I cannot fully comprehend. I'd be a fool to think I could squeeze that info into this space here, so please, just go read about those changes from Blizzard directly.

Then you can rage a little bit, if you want.

It's not that hard to understand it; the most common reason for patch rage is that the guy raging has no idea how game balance works.

If there's something I KNOW about Blizzard is how they never have and never will balance a game.

... and all their games lack strategical and tactical sense anyway.

I play WoW, so I'm used to the absurd amount of retarded QQ that comes from people getting hit with the nerf bat. Of course, some complaint IS warranted, but the majority rules in the favor of being a raging lunatic as opposed to being rational.

The balance changes look decent and well needed. Loving SC2 so far.

@D-roy
Starcraft and Brood War were exceptionally well balanced, and you realize that the S in RTS stands for Strategy, right? /sigh

No Rage here. Terran deserved to got bonked down a bit, but all three races were nerfed, with the only noticable buff being given to the Ultralisk - Cleave on buildings!

And D-roy, enjoy playing games that are SO FULL of 'strategical and tactical sense' like Crystal Chronicles. You made yourself look like a fool. Dont cry because you couldnt level a character in WoW, and think you hate Blizzard games.

Star wars galactic battlegrounds was a fun RTS that could be ran like Starcrafts 1 and 1.1 you know, build lots of dudes, send to base, win. It also supported guerrilla warfare, CTF style, wierd Bunker attack (build a bunker, then build another one down the way, to the enemies base). You could have Large maps, or small maps. Islands, one large land mass, Raider style(you has no base, have 3 dudes and make a base. Also theres no constraints. Pick the same exact specs and play a different game everytime.

So this Starcraft 1 and 1.1 game is 'deep' and 'strategic' in its build a bunch of dudes and go stomping.....wierd sounds like Dawn of War, and Warcraft and all the other forgotten RTS's.

They're nerfing zealot build time when already many entry level players are complaining about how fast zerg rush is.

Meanwhile Zerglings are still useless past the first five minutes.

OW NOAWR! The Protoss race is in ruins because the Zealot now pauses to scratch his lily white ass a litte before heading out of the gateway!

ZERGLINGS MAKE THEM PAY FOR SCRATCHING THEIR ASS BEFORE HEADING OUT THE GATEWAY.

Zerglings stay important for the duration of almost every game. Zergling surrounds can mean victory at so many crucial parts of the game. Talking 1v1 here, but they're still good after that.

And entry level players play Terran, meaning they can make a wall, meaning Zerg poses NO threat early on until Banelings, which by then the Terran can double wall. So that's not a valid concern.

Zerg are the weakest of the three currently. That's why the only nerf they got was Ultralisks, and has nothing to do with their early/mid game.

dosent matter how much they try, a good zelot rush towards the start of a game would be devistating. then theres the zerg rush and after that the one who spams battle cruisers wins

Zerglings useless past five minutes? Are you on the drugs? Zerglings can be a pretty critical part of your army throughout the game if you're using them right.

I will rage over the fact that I'll never get any resolution to Twin Peaks. And don't say Fire Walk With Me, because that just leaves more unresolved storylines. Watched the series for the first time after playing Alan Wake. Loved every second until it ended abruptly.

Nice across-the-board changes. I don't feel like anyone gets screwed in particular.

is funny how blizzard listen to crybabys rather than listening to the ppl that know what are they talking about, SC2 right now is possible the most balanced game i have ever seen in my entire life, every one of these so called "balance issues" as a counter, something accessible for anyone of any skill level

but isntead of leting the game as it is, blizzard listen to the few ppl (crybabys idiots that barely know how to play) that spam the official forum with "zerg/protoss/terra race is OP because i lose agains them", this is truly pathetic, so are the balance changes, man, im starting to lose faith in blizzard, they are becoming more bad day after day, i just hope i never have to use the F and you phrase with the name blizzard on it.............

What I don't like is that they are adjusting things to suit the very upper echelon of players and their strategies. I'm not a newb, but im definitely not anywhere near that good either. I wish they would tweek the units with the crappier players in mind-- the units would basically do what you would expect them to do, and then the mega-pros can adjust THEIR strategies to these changes. Seems like that is what the natural order of things should be.

Honestly, I think SC2 has gotten a rotten run of it. The hardcore fanbois are all crying because this doesn't have LAN (which affects maybe 1 out 1,000,000 people, can essentially be emulated, and, turns out, a LAN edition will be available). Another set of hardcore fanbois are sad because it's SO MUCH DIFFERENT than SC1. No joke. Then there's a set of people who think it's too much like SC2, as though RTS's like Starcraft just don't belong here anymore. Yeah, like just because Company of Heroes and Dawn of War are around, there can no longer be any games with different resource systems. *facepalm*

Starcraft 2 is a great game, and Blizzard is a great company. The campaign editor is probably the most advanced in a video game on the planet, and certainly is within the world of strategy. The game is polished, well balanced, and a lot of fun. The changes are worthwhile, but the game has it's own classic charm that simply doesn't exist in any other contemporary RTS.

Wanna know the bad part of SC2? The story sucks. Sorry. The story sucks. Everything else is fantastic.

Let's see you play. It'd be hilarious. My bet: dead in 6 minutes against any decent player.

It's strategic in a sense, but it's certainly tactical and it certainly requires more than "build a bunch of dudes and go stomping". Ever try to scout, build an economy, plan an army, and harass the enemy at the same time? If not, prepare to lose until you can.

Not to mention Warcraft is hardly forgotton, *titanic lawlz*

My personal feeling after playing lots and lots of games as Terran is that Terran tends to be slightly overpowered. Not by a lot, but there's all these little individual things that they have going for them, when added up, becomes one heck of a problem to deal with.

Off the top of my head, amazing things that Terran have going for them--100% salvage rate for bunkers, mules, the extreme effectiveness of concussive shells, the incredible efficiency of tier 1 M&M throughout nearly the entire game, sensor towers, the many, many, many harass options they have, the extreme variety of tech options they have that are relatively easy to transition between/into. . .the list is pretty long.

I think tanks are problematic in general, but there's supposed to be ways to get around them--in SC1, zealot bombing and speed zealots and psi storm were generally a solid way to get around the general stupidity of tanks. I'm not sure if there's similar strats in SC2 (baneling drops? Not sure here. . .), but dropping tank damage from 50 to 35 seems a bit much. Maybe slowing the rate of fire when sieged would make more sense. Iunno. I don't really agree with Blizzard's decision here, but I'm pretty sure I'm biased because I love tanks, haha.

protoss are good at quick defence and specials, zelot rushing is good but taking another races worker can prove useful. terran with enough time can battle cruiser spam and the game is pritty much done after that unless you have ghosts. zergs power lies in their quick and easy numbers, with zerg its best to divide and distroy your NME's base on 2 fronts while keeping the air forces at bay with scourges.
