Blizzard is a naughty, naughty tease photo

Blizzard has decided to update the splash page of their official site with a teaser timeline of the company's releases that ends in a big, glowing question mark. Currently, only two games on the timeline are highlighted: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. One can guess that other games will be highlighted daily until this latest project is unveiled.

One can also guess that the game will be revealed at the Blizzard World Wide Invitational that will be held in Seoul, Korea on May 19 and 20 (that's six days from now and there are six games left on the timeline *cue spooky music*). Now just because Starcraft is to Korea what baseball is to the United States, that doesn't mean I will start making any assumptions here.

That said, I encourage you to jump to as many conclusions as you want in the comments section of this post. The sillier, the better.

I would play a Rock and Roll racing MMO. That game was AWESOME.

Wait, only gay people who didn't make the soccer team play Starcraft in Korea? That's kind of weird...

Anyway, the secret game is probably the cheese wrapper mini-puzzle game fighter that Niero broke the embargo and previewed a couple months ago. If you don't remember, click here.

I would totally play a Rock 'n' Roll Racing MMO. No word of a lie.

Y'know, I have a feeling that the game they're going to announce will be Diablo III. Remember way back there were looking for artists and coders for a Diablo II-like game? That was long enough ago to make something like a new Diablo game more than feasible.

Also, I believe that Blizzard has said that it's not going to be another MMO, which is great. That's the last thing the world needs, and the WoW cash cow hasn't finished mooing yet.

Could this have something to do with the Starcraft: Ghost Pre-order thing that best buy fucked up?

I think its pretty safe to assume this next product won't be of the Warcraft series. If anything, the timeline shows that theyve been making more than enough of them, and that they're wanting to focus on either starcraft, diablo, or something completely new.

I dont think Blizzard is stupid enough to announce Starcraft: Ghost, again... after its been canned. Although, if Blizzard doesnt announce Starcraft 2, then they would be pretty stupid...

Unless...

The new game is a brand new MMO designed specifically for the Nintendo Wii titled "Super Monkey Knife Fight eXtreme" where you travel to other people's houses with modified wii controllers sporting actual blades. And then whomever's wii-mote is still moving after a certain duration wins (because the other person is clearly dead). After you've travelled the virtual world called EARTH and defeated the massive Wii install base, SONY comes out of nowhere admitting it was a giant ploy to destroy the phenom that is the Wii.

Well seeing as how there are no expansions in that time line - it's fair to assume that it's not the next Warcraft Expansion, that's for sure.

But the question does remain as to why those two Warcrafts are the only ones highlighted and showcased..... Not the third, not Starcraft or any Diablo. So is it also safe to assume it's another Warcraft game?
Kartzan's Avatar
Kartzan at 05/13/2007 19:32
well if there's 6 days left, and there's 6 items left to be lit up... i would assume they are going to light one up every day...
Dennen's Avatar
Dennen at 05/13/2007 19:38
If that's the case... Well technically they should have lit up The Frozen Throne in the list if it's going by that method.

But if they're doing expansions - it might very well be another Warcraft expansion... They DID say they plan on releasing one every year after TBC.

FUCK STARCRAFT GHOST! WE NEED STARCRAFT 2!!!! too long has kerrigan drifted in space rebuilding her zerg hive!!!! seriously. everyone of my friends is like "omg its going to be Diablo 3". we dont need another Diablo, we need the balance of Starcraft with Warcraft 3+ graphics!

hell at this point i wouldnt be surprised if its World of Starcraft(or w/e name they give it). and honestly i'd rather play that than WoW.

Starcraft > Warcraft

ok...so its gonna be "KISS THE RUMP OF BLIZZARD," a next-gen MMO with FULL WIIMOTE TECHNOLOGY so you can do all your favorite motions like:

Get down and beg for (insert sequel to awesome game here)
Chop Starcraft Ghost into pieces
...and much much more!

Heck, I'd buy it if it wasn't that I have to pay using some body part a month...I mean cmon...how am I supposed to fully enjoy the game that way?

Releasing a "World of Starcraft" would be bad for Blizzard, as they'd be creating competition for themselves. Better to keep their focus on their already victorious champion, rather than enter a fresh rider into the lists. (That analogy makes me want a jousting game. Anyone?)

But what if it were a different sort of MMORPG? Putting a couple ideas together here, what if it were a game based in the Starcraft universe, with Diablo-esque gameplay? Bringing together two of the great desires of the Blizzard fanbase into another behemoth of gaming with which to ravage the land, and salt it so that nothing more shall grow there.

I think it will be SC2 or D3. Blizzard wouldn't have the time to count all the money from 2 mmorpgs at least. I think I'll be happy with whatever they come out with.

Actually, go to www.starcraft2.com.

It's the same countdown as on www.blizzard.com.

Which means, unless they are trying to trick us, Starcraft 2 is very, very likely.

Starcraft2.com redirects to the Blizzard index page, so its no suprise its the same website.

As for the picture, its moving through a game a day it seems, so its bang on track for the 19th announcement of a new game :)

Honestly and truthfully, I'm REALLY hoping for something along the lines of... say... Diablo Crochet. Blizzard could design very detailed Crochet maps themed within the Diablo universe. I would shell out $60 instantly for something like that.

Hmm. Now that I mention it, didn't some other brilliant company come up with a similar idea for one of their titles? Oh yeah, Gears of War Golf... WTF mate.
