It should actually read:
"Please do not let this guy write another fucking article here, ever. Jesus Christ."
Do us a solid and take your own advice.
"jesus christ."
Even Jesus Christ made a few mistakes every now and then! <3
I saw Jonathan Ross tweet out the server you guys will be playing. Looking forward to joining in!
I don't think you guys usually review MMOs, but will you be making an exception for this one?
We don't review MMOs at Destructoid, but we'll be providing Impressions, similar to Patrick's piece on TERA Online.
WoW being the big boy on the block is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's a fun game, but it maintains its dominance partly on the promise that there'll be a fuckton of people to play with. Anything they do to hurt that perception will be devastating.
I wasn't going to buy GW2 because I'm not that big into PVP, and it seems like the game focuses a lot on PVP. But no monthly fee is pretty tempting.
Having said that, I still enjoy WoW. It is a good game, despite all the hipster bashing it takes.
There absolutely is room for both games! I just felt this was an apt time to mention it due to its lack of a subscription.
Also, GW2's PvE side is very strong. If you're at all remotely curious about the game, I recommend looking into it.
Do you still have to charge for expansions, though?
I mean, $14 a month should entitle you to every update, don't you think?
Heck, just having to buy Vanilla WOW on top of a subscription in order to play seems, like, dirty.
Damn near everything they do is set to take advantage of the people that play their game in the worst ways. Mostly why I had to get out.
And taking advantage? Right cause Blizzard FORCES them to buy the expansions.
And why should they, they still have 9m subs and about 60% of the servers are at full, I'm sure they might do it once the game actually starts to die down but for now its a bad move from a business standpoint.
"Right cause Blizzard FORCES them to buy the expansions."
In a certain way, they do, by removing events, and sometimes places, and putting them in expansion-exclusive areas, while gimping the standard areas.
Pretty much anyone who bought Burning Crusade can't say they have it anymore. Everything it had except the Dranei and Blood Elf starting areas has been superseded by Wrath and Cataclysm.
Eh, well, from what I understand questionable design choices might have something to do with it too.. My roommate just shot me an email saying they just read that you won't roll on loot anymore, that if something is "up" for you there will be (from what I guessed) an internal roll and it'll just go into your bag.. Pretty much completely doing away with choices all together.
But thats if my Roommate was reading it right, theres always a chance they didn't.
WoW's _current_ subscriber base is twenty fold that of EQ's peak. WoW launched in EverQuest's 5th year and immediately surpassed it. This is WoW's 8th year and nothing has even come close. The MMO market was clearly immature and no patterns can be drawn from games that came before WoW and were an order of magnitude less significant.
