The Internet is on fire this morning as Blizzard confirmed what we have all been expecting and praying for. With the announcement of Diablo III at their 2008 Worldwide Invitational event, you'll be lucky if you can get any of Blizzard's links to work smoothly any time soon, but I know that won't stop you from trying. Above is the two minute cinematic teaser for the impatient people, below are a few screenshots of their splash pages, and after the jump is a monster of a twenty minute gameplay video, as well as an artwork compilation trailer. Keep checking back for more updates throughout the day!

I hate to sound like "pretentious cool kid who's too awesome for this," but I'm really pretentious and too awesome for this. No, but seriously, I played Diablo II and I thought it sucked itself raw. I won't be going anywhere near this overhyped nonsense. If I have to futz with Blizzard, it'll be StarCraft II. Looks good for what it is, though.

For people that are calling the gameplay a decade old, you are correct. But I don't see you bitching when another FPS comes out, considering Wolfenstein came out TWENTY YEARS AGO. I don't see you bitching at RTS games when Dune 2 came out in 1992. All games are essentially graphic updates of the same basic gameplay, with little tweaks here and there that make the game unique. A 3D FPS is just Doom with a Z-axis that's easier to use. All JRPGs are almost the exact fucking same. Every RTS is Dune 2, with deeper tech trees and unit commands. Diablo 3 is just the original Diablo smoking voodoo crack with a hard-on for destruction. Every game you play is the exact fucking same, its just the little nuances that make it unique.

I can't wait for more class videos. Here's hoping the Assassin gets an appearance.

lol @ ChrisFurniss for saying blizzard makes games just for themselves because they like making them...I hate to break it to you but the only game designers that aren't in it for the money are indy developers...but even they just want money when they first get the taste for it

Also, the Diablo games are easily my favorite games of all time so I'm extremely excited. I was practically raised on Diablo (MGS4 almost stole that honor but it doesn't have enough replay value).

This game would have to be ridiculously good for me to get it for the PC, honestly. I hope they're working on controls/UI specific to consoles since I don't like spending my time stuck to a computer unless it's to play an MMO.

I think it would've made more sense if Chris had said that Blizzard doesn't JUST do it for the money, and maybe that's what he meant. I'm sure they enjoy the work, but no one does it simply because it's fun. Developers got to get paid, son.

I have been waiting for a new Diablo title, but damn. It's great and all but people, calm down.

World of Warcraft is a MMORPG. Diablo is an action/RPG with online play. No way in hell D3 is going to kill WoW. People will find a few hours a day to play D3, but WoW is forever.
