I presume there's gonna be more of these megasuper packs for the other two games? :P

It is nice they're throwing in the original SC and expansion at least.

This looks like a well put together pack, looking forward to getting it.

Wishing I hadn't bought the Starcraft battle chest two days ago.

oh god, DO WANT. Also, the SC2 soundtrack is amazing if you haven't heard it.. I think you can find it on youtube, Terran 03-05 are some of my favorite tracks. Picture... old Starcraft music mixed with music you'd hear on the show firefly.

I love all the complaints about $60... there have been many PC games priced above $50, like Doom 3, the old FMV games and previous Blizzard games. Also I have no idea why my fellow PC gamers think we are "above" the price-point... millions of console gamers have shown publishers $60 is an acceptable price for a new game but we expect PC divisions to just ignore this?

As for the CE, that looks sexy... $40 more sexy? Not sure. Gimmie a few days to think!

$99.99 is a bit high, but it's substantially more in it than in my WoW expansion special editions which were what, $65-70 so I guess it's all a matter of perception. Weren't the AvP and MW2 CEs more? I think this is a bit better; Blizz does NOT disappoint when it comes to the quality of their materials.

And really, people are turning their backs for $10? You're not real Blizzard fans, then, and they probably don't care if you don't buy it then. After all, they have every asian netcafe buying dozens of copies alone not to mention the home consumer...

that's fantastic that Blizzard took the time to put this package together and announce it, while we still don't even have a release date for the game proper. but that demo sure is fun... oh wait, i didn't get in because they've only allowed 20 people access.

but, yea, thanks for letting us know we can pay over $100 for a limited edition copy whenever you guys decide to actually...y'know...release the game. i guess that bit of information isn't nearly as important right now.

that's... not a bad deal. I seldom fall for any of these Limited Edition things that cost more than $10 over the Standard Edition's price, but this is very tempting. I'm a sucker for soundtracks and I lost my old Starcraft CDs. :(

$60 Blizzard games have been around long before the Activision merger. WC3 was $60 and that was back in 2002.

If you really care about the $10, just buy it on Amazon. It's $50.

When will people shut the hell up about prices and get a job or a higher paying job? A number of SNES games was upwards of $70 and I seem to recall that Phantasy Star IV for the Genesis might have been around $80 to $90 so. It's hilarious seeing people crying their eyes out over a $60 game.
vatoloko's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/08/2010 12:15

@Tascar: Because its the standard that people are used to seeing for a while now.

I remember paying $70 or $80 for Chrono Trigger for SNES back when it came out and yeah, I remember Phantasy Star 4 carrying that $90 price tag as well so I agree with you there.

The other thing too is, Wings of Liberty is only a 1/3 of the game. All you get is the Terran story and obviously the multiplayer. So it will be interesting to see how or what they do with the other 2/3 of the game and what they price that for. I'm pretty sure its the same story but from each races view.

@vatoloko you make a fair point about SC2 being divided up into 3 games. I think I would have declined from posting had someone complaining about the price mentioned that as opposed to forming a kneejerk reaction purely based on the price alone.

That being said, I think that with their pricing and their decision to split the game, SC2 might be one of the most scrutinized games in history over the question of value/cost.

I wasn't aware that this release was only 1/3 of the game. Is that from a story/release perspective, or a gameplay one too? Has anything been said about the length of this release's campaign?
ChineseDogMeat's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/08/2010 13:10

@StingingVelvet

I haven't bought a standard packaging PC game for over $50 in a very long time. I could see if people were getting them at FYE/Mall Gamestops or such with prices being that high, but if you look at most any retailer 95% of new PC games hit under the $50 point.

I think the issue with a lot of people this generation of games is they are wary of release day bugs, 7 hour campaigns/game lengths, or release day DLC that should've been packaged with the game, etc. If this weren't the case, and games still had the same quality and reliability of older games, you might see people less hesitant or vocal about paying $60 for new releases.

Yes, the three separate stories is BS in my opinion. Not sure how much the other ones will cost though. But, you can only play the single-player campaign as Terran, and then have to buy the other "Packs" to play single as other races and get the rest of the story. Multiplayer I believe you can select all three races from the get-go. Still crappy, I'll take my Diablo 3 please, thank you. Just buy the battle-chest with all three in 6 months....

Yeah sorry, SC2 or not, im not paying 60$ for 1/3 of a game. Blizzard can suck my balls with that horseshit gimmick. Release a FULL game and price it at 60$ and ill buy it, until then...ive got plenty of other full pc games to buy, you can keep your 60$ sp demo.
Draconianviper's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/08/2010 13:56

Three separate stories but each of them will contain up to 30 missions, which is pretty much the same length as all 3 campaigns together in SCI. Now does this mean the story will go along 30 missions or there a possible 30 missions to choose from with maybe getting to play through 20 of them per play through I have no idea. A lot more potential for story in the single player campaign though. And yes, before people harp PC games and even some console games were happening long before this came along and frequently. Which is why I would wait for price drops or look for deals.

I swear, sometimes this generation of gamers seem so spoiled sometimes that they think they're entitled to whatever they want with little effort.

WTF. You expect us to pay for a THIRD of the complete game? They didn't even include the protoss or zerg campaigns, nothing on those. All in all, it'll cost you $180 to get the complete Starcraft2 experience, $60 for each race, bullcrap.
ChineseDogMeat's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/08/2010 14:03

Well, if each third of the game you buy is a full game length, and their are just three times the amount of story/missions for the whole series, that's a bit annoying but cool that you're getting good content that you're paying for, as long as your multi has all three races from the get-go.

Blizzard has always made a great, fleshed out and fun product so far...

This should be like, $30. I don't care if your campaign has like, 30 missions, I never really use Terran. Also, this means $180 for the entire game. I'm a broke college student... so this means I'm still going to be playing Brood War.

First WoW and now this... I feel like Blizzard is really going downhill.
Thirdrise's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/08/2010 16:28

Lets all pull our collective heads out and take a breath. This isn't 1/3 of the game, it never was 1/3 of the game, it won't be 1/3 of the game.

The original Starcraft was 30 missions, multiplayer, and a map editor. Starcraft 2 is 30 missions, multiplayer, and a map editor.

False information is false, no matter how many times you spread it.
