Bleszinski talks 'Dark Corners' campaign DLC photo

“Dark Corners” isn’t a traditional bit of downloadable content. The upcoming Gears of War 2 DLC will be multiplayer heavy as per Epic Games standard, however, nestled underneath the seven maps is a new downloadable campaign mission. A mission with a twist, no less: go guns blazing or sneak. Recently, Cliff Bleszinski gave Major Nelson a rundown of the ninety-minute campaign slice and revealed that the DLC was originally “snipped” from the game.

"It's a 90-minute section that was actually snipped out of Gears of War 2, where Marcus and Dom are actually going to the Locust homeworld and they're basically suited up in Locust armor and have a choice -- because they knocked out a couple of Therons -- they can go in guns-blazing as they always do, Rambo-style, or they can go with a more stealth approach, so it's a little bit of stealth in the Gears universe," Bleszinski said on Nelson’s podcast.

"You get Achievements for playing the mode either way and it kind of plugs right into the main game. It's actually the first time we've done any sort of single-player DLC. It's kind of a test to see whether people dig it."

If the single image of the content holds true, the stealth approach will have Marcus and Dom donning Theron gear. We’re pretty sure the Locust don’t have lockers, so it’ll be interesting to see, at the very least, how the dynamic duo get their duds. (Flaying, ftw.)

Gears of War 2 “Dark Corners” hits with the "All Fronts" collection on July 28 for fifteen bucks.

What's this?! A single player dlc content?! Now that is something cool. It'd be interesting if you could talk to the locusts when you're in disguise and see what they're thinking about.

The logic flaw on Epic's behalf here is amusig...

How can it test the market for single-player DLC when you wrap it in multiplayer DLC and set the price so high you have to buy it for both, not for just the single-player content?

I don't play multiplayer.. never have, never will... but I would like more Gears of War story content and would pay for it, if it were reasonably priced. $15 for 90 minutes though? No way.

I understand they probable were worried no one would buy the single-player on its own, thus the bundle, but that means you aren't testing anything, you're covering all your bases.

I have a love/hate relationship with gears. I love the single player, but I often hate the multiplayer, especially when it becomes a dodge+shotgun fest.

Therefore, I'm on the fence on this.

I want new maps. Seven will do nicely, thanks.

What is this, like the 19th map to come out for Gears 2?

...and modern warfare only got 3 maps.

And if you punch the dark corners, you can hit the people on the other side.

I'd rather have the disc... The ten shitloads worth of extras, such as a premium theme, introductory video, poster, and strategy guide would have really been nice incentives. I would have absolutely bought it in physical form, but I'm always reluctant to buy DLC.

I'm confused, though. Dark Corners is releasing separately from the All Fronts collection, and are $15 each? Or DC is included in the AF pack for $15?
According to IGN, the Dark Corners DLC will be 1200 MSmoonmoney, where All Fronts will be 1600 SteaveBallmers. I'm still not sure if All Fronts will contain the 3 mappacks and Dark Corners, though... and does it still include the premium theme?

Wait, homeworld? I thought it was pretty much clear that they were an found by Marcus' dad, and that they were under the planets surface all along

I'm always willing to download more single player content. I wish publishers would realize this.

Heard about this on Major Nelson' podcast. I really don't know why this wasn't down before, as we've had plenty of multiplayer DLC.

I'd like to see more single player DLC from other games too.

Best Buy is selling Gears 2 for $30 this week, I'm so tempted to pick it up again... did they ever fix multiplayer so that people can actually connect to games?

@Noah.

I think it's been getting better for a while now, and Update 4 which hit a couple of weeks ago seems to have speeded up the matchmaking even more...

@Noah: NO. It is not fixed. Go check the official forums. People STILL having issues connecting to games, amongst other glaring flaws.

lol @ stealth gameplay in a gears game.

Thumbs up @ single player DLC in a game like this.

Sorry Usedtabe, but I gotta disagree with you. I've been playing everyday, and it is fixed. Fuck the forums. Probably trolls, or people with crappy broadbands. I'm connecting to matches within 2-3 minutes everytime. There is a definite movement against Gears 2, and I just listen to the bitching, and scratch my head. So much fabrication.

Fair play, Usedta... I checked the official forums, and yes, there are quite a few threads complaining about the connection issues, and the odd glitches. But also, in fairness, a lot of those threads/complaints are old, too. It would seem a fair few people are suffering bad connection because of router settings which have been affected by the various updates, including the new one. There are instructions on how to fix this. Like I said, I've had no issues at all, a few before update 4, but none since. Maybe I'm lucky. I'm glad if that's the case, because I love the shit out of this game online.
