BLAZEGear handheld: Sega Master System, Game Gear games photo

BLAZE has created a a portable game system that packs in some old games. You may expect 16-bit games, but the BLAZEGear goes even farther back, digging into the Sega Master System and Game Gear libraries. No, really!

The BLAZEGear handheld will come with 30 games installed to play on its included LCD screen. Alex Kidd in Miracle Land, Kung Fu Kid, Golden Axe and more can be played on the go (two AA batteries), or on your television using the unit's TV out port.

Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Drift, Sonic Chaos, Super Columns, Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine, Alex Kidd In Miracle World, Columns, Sonic Spinball, Aztec Adventure, Dragon Crystal Fantasy Zone, Fantasy Zone 2, Gain Ground, Kung Fu Kid, Golden Axe, Global Defense, The Ninja, Quartet, Ristar and Penguin Land

The BLAZE Europe website is now selling these systems for £29.99. That price is about right because these games are old.

I was pumped for a second because I thought it was like a re-release of the Sega Nomad. Sigh.

"Sega Master System and Game Gear libraries" They are one in the same, the Game Gear is to the Master System what the Nomad was to the Genesis. That is also why both sucked batteries like it was going out of style.

not all the time. Nomad was a portable Genesis/Mega Drive. Game gear had several exclusive games. For example i love Defenders of Oasis that was exclusive to Game gear. And Chakan on game Gear was different.

Yep, GameGear definitely had it's own set of games exclusive to the system.

The Sonic games on it were all different from the Genesis ones for example.

This doesn't play genesis/mega drive games. It plays master system and game gear games.

That list is sorely missing World Series Baseball. I've been wanting to play that again ever since my GameGear's screen finally died.

Just re-read the post. I think that title shot of Sonic is synonymous with Genesis to my brain for some reason. Thanks for the correction.

This isn't new, this jack ass I know has one. It's really a piece of shit. I want to say his has 3 buttons, I'm pretty sure it does.

Game Gear was awful, but I never actually had a chance to play any Master System games. I'm pretty sure I'm missing nothing.

@King: If you thought Game Gear was awful then you're not really a gamer anyways. Just go back to your CoD and forget about ever becoming a gamer. The Master System and Game Gear both had a lot of great titles.

You are actually missing a great deal. There were tons of great Game Gear and Master System games - you just had to know where to look.
Master System Games Worth Your Time
Game Gear 101

I'd honestly get this if it had the Master System version of Gunstar Heroes on it. I've always wanted to try it, but it's much more expensive than the Genesis version.

The Sega Master System is still the second-greatest console of all time.

Nifty, novel idea. Decent price, too. Only, it needs more damn games(Wonder Boy, My hero, Rocky, etc.)!
Also, Alex Kidd! Hell, yeah! That long lost, forgotten character deserves an HD remake comeback of sorts. He was the only reason I played Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing for as long as I did.
I wonder if this BLAZEGear contraption hides the SEGA Snail game inside?! Hmmm.

The reason Alex Kidd has been missing all these years...

I'll just stick to Sonic Mega Collection/whatever it's called and using my real Game Gear. None of my favourite Game Gear games are on here, anyway.

Would it have killed them to put a Game Gear cartridge slot on it?

I bought one of these purely for Golden Axe! one of my favourite titles of all time! Great console as well - no complaints at all and i've used it for the past few weeks now.
