BlazBlue DLC jumps the gun, sucks crocodile nuts photo

You have to love bad DLC, especially when it's as shameless as this. Not only is the upcoming downloadable content for BlazBlue available on Xbox Live before the game's even out, the stuff you can pre-emptively purchase is nothing but stuff already on the disc, and that can be unlocked by playing the main game.

80 Microsoft Points apiece, gullible gamers can pick up "Unlimited" variant forms of characters. Customers are warned before buying that they can unlock the content simply by playing the game, but who wants to PLAY the videogames they just bought? Only a total moron would do that, right?

This kind of DLC is my favorite, as I love the idea of people paying even more money to effectively reduce the value of their games. It's an incredibly lazy, stupid and crap idea for downlodable content, but the fact that real gamers are obviously buying this garbage only justifies such shoddy little schemes. If Arc System Works had any class, it would release a list of names of the people who are buying this nonsense, so sane and sensible people know to avoid the drooling bloody lunatics.

It's kind of sad that developers and publishers have systematically set about ruining the idea of DLC for everybody, but it's the way of business, I guess. I'm just impressed at the sheer gall on display with this one.

"None of you guys are nailing it. The standard should be "all characters are unlocked for online/vs play" by default."

What do you know? That's also what I've been saying. Go read my posts.

"...siding with casuals."

That whole statement was retarded and self-defeating, I'm not going to bother bringing it down. You should feel stupid for saying it.

"You guys are looking at this from a very narrow perspective: casual, hardcore"

Fucking EXACTLY. But I'm looking from an even narrower perspective that has transcended casial/hardcore. I'm looking from the competitive perspective. What you're missing is why we're taking this perspective. Do you want to know why I take this perspective? because BlazBlue is a competitive game. Don't believe me? Look at the official website for the American localization. The "What is Drive" trailer even features major competitive players like Alex Valle and Mike_Z. This is a game designed around competition, and unlocks have proven time and time again in a competitive game to be absolutely dumb and almost unacceptable (see: TF2).

As far as "people are being screwed" competitive players have always been screwed by unlocks regardless. It has always meant that buying the game didn't mean we got to play it, it means we got the right to play the game after meeting some bullshit set of requirements (go look up how to unlock Gouken in SF4 right now). We've always had to pay the game our TIME before we actually got to play, just that now we have the option to pay the game our money to get everything instantly.

Agreed. As for online play in a fighting game I was more thinking about let's say 80% unlocked instantly and the really special ones after you've reached certain goals. Which is more than enough for goofing off online with friends. Rock Band is something else I guess. A particular song, for me, is very different than a particular character. At least you have a choice in that game. I think you made the right one.

I don't see the problem with this at all. I hate having to
unlock characters in a fighting game. At least thus way the consumer has a choice if they want to expidite the tedious unlock process.

IF they're dumb enough to buy this DLC, let them.

I don't see the problem with this DLC.

A. All characters in this DLC are overpowered boss characters. They are not legal in ranked matches and there is an option specifically to ban them when creating rooms for non-ranked play. They affect you in no way should you choose.

B. The characters are still available without having to buy the game. Here's how:

Beat Arcade mode with their normal form. Then, in Training, Versus, or Network (when enabled) mode, hold the taunt button while selecting that character.

For those "this used to be a cheat code" arguers, let's compare this to Mortal Kombat 3.

Play as Smoke (taken from GameFAQs)
"At the copyright screen, hold Left and A. When the Williams logo appears, release the buttons and hold Right and B. When the words 'There is no knowledge that is not power' appear, release the buttons and hold X and Y
Continue to hold the buttons until the MK3 logo appears. Smoke will walk onto the screen and Shao Kahn will say 'Outstanding' when you entered the code correctly."

This method requires less of a time investment, but you must memorize a specific set of button inputs and timing, and it must be done every time you play the game. Personally, I prefer the "unlockable" method.

If Joe Blow wants to spend a dollar to save himself an hour so he can dick around with his friends using overpowered bosses, wtf does it matter to you? You people need to take off the rose-tinted glasses and quit sipping on the Haterade.
