Blame Santa for Heavy Rain's heavy delays photo

Those of you who've been suffering through the seemingly endless wait for the release of Heavy Rain now have someone to blame for your misery, and that individual is none other than the diabolical Santa Claus. Developer Quantic Dream's Guillaume de Fondaumiere tells Gamesindustry.biz that the reason the company's highly anticipated project won't be hitting store shelves until 2010 is so that it isn't lost in the busy Christmas season game flood.

"Most publishers today realize that it's not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas. It's a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life."

He goes on to say that the wait will afford Quantic Dream plenty of time to give Heavy Rain some extra polish, and here's hoping they do just that. While they're at it, they might want to rethink some of the characters' wardrobes, because by the time this damn game finally crawls out of the uncanny valley and onto the PS3, all their clothes will be out of style.

Now hope that darn Easter Bunny doesn't get in the way of a Q1 release...

I'm always glad to see less of the holiday deluge as we have gotten used to.

And here I thought it was delayed because of the much lauded rain physics.

I don't blame them. Sounds like a pretty sane decision to me.

Makes sense considering all the games with 2s,3s,and 4s at the end of their names coming out around that time. Its kinda hard for a new game(especially if its not a shooter) to make it around then.

Good decision. I don't have a PS3, but I'm glad developers realise that launching a new game at Christmas is not a good idea.

if the extra time gives them chance for some more polish - i'm happy.

Expecting big things off the back of Indigo Prophecy.

I'm disappointed that we won't see this game sooner, but polish is always good. Plus, I'm gonna have enough games in my queue come Oct./Nov. anyway. This will be like the RE5 / SFIV of next year, and that's great by me.

It will probably still undersell, sadly. At least this way it will get a decent amount of press, I guess.

SSDD, they are probably just trying to make a good 2nd half in a game for once in their lives. God speed to them though!

February or March 2010 would probably be a nicer release window for this game anyway.

So now they're being pushed from the Christmas period to the Christmas-in-March period. Seriously, now instead of dealing with Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Brutal Legend, the game has to compete with White Knight Chronicles, MAG, Dead Rising 2 and God Of War 3. From one frying pan to another, really. There's no safe period for this, just release when you can.
