Anything that differentiates from the same tired storylines is fine by me. Ironically, I love old-school JRPGs to death.
Isn't it funny how the divide between the rich and poor is a very serious and very long term issue that needs to get fixed, yet NO ONE, not even the poor are trying to fix it?
Instead we have companies trying to capitalize on the issue, so much so that it's becoming too much and people will stop caring...Course maybe that's the point.
It's like the environment. It's a very serious issue, but the entertainment industry flooded us with crap about it so much that people stopped caring, thus we still drive oil cars and rape our resources dry.

The rich are job creators. The rich get richer on the backs of the poor who get poorer. Life begins at conception. It is a woman's right to choose how she goes about her reproductive health. Lower taxes for everyone. Tax the wealthy. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Marriage is a legal contract under the law, and there should be equal right to enter into it. Big business is an integral part of our economy and should be regulated more loosely. Big business will act unethically if it means profit, and should be regulated less. Healthcare should be handled by the market. Healthcare should be socialized. Military spending is an essential component to freedom. Military spending is out of control. Obama is a radical socialist Kenyan. Obama is black Kennedy.

Actually, I think the message is that the guy is good at manipulating things to his own benefit.
He first hijacks the public's opinion using their fears and complains to turn them against their government, then escalates things by hijacking the US defense system and using it against the military, with the aforementioned people becoming collateral.
But that's just how I look at it. Let's see if the game proves me wrong.

Hard to know what with certainty "99%" means outside of the context of the game without playing it.
In a purely global sense, America itself, in terms of standard of living, is the wealthiest 1%(or 4%, relative to the world's population). Even much of America's poor live in larger homes with more conveniences than middle classes in other countries, and most of the poor aren't starving, as obesity is more prevalent among the lower classes.
So, if you're some globalist who plies their trade through grievance mongering, America, because of it's consumption and evil cheese burger cultural colonialism(because that's all you can complain about when you're looking at the world's first non-Imperial super power), sticking it to decadent America may be construed as fighting for the 99%.

I'm fine with that. It's relevant subject matter, and with the whole Occupy movement and things like that, the idea of rallying the 99% is not at all uncommon.

I really doubt their could ever be any significant commentary in the series. More like marketing trends. I think the politics will be toned down like I suspect Ubisoft's probably doing to Rainbow 6 about now.

I love how you people think video games are important enough that right wing powers are actually going to make "propaganda" like this that isn't going to challenge anyone's opinion of the rich-poor divide anyway.

Oh cool, now we have this in addition to Activision hiring a literal war criminal as a consultant for Black Ops 2.
The downtrodden masses of the whole world should rally behind Jonathan Holmes, so that he may lead them into a bright, shining Utopian future. It would be Code Geass: Holmes of the Nice Rebellion.
Not a fan of the way Ubisoft took the Occupy Movement and bastardized it into a plot device for the new Rainbow Six, and I'm not a fan of the way Black Ops is doing it now either. It comes of as politically charged and very extremist. Not sure why that was necessary.
On the bright side, R6: Patriots seems to be aping a bit more from the radical "you can take our guns off our cold dead bodies" Tea Party 'protesters', and this seems to be taking a bit more from the more radical segments of Anon who just want to create chaos because they weren't hugged enough as a child.
So yea. Fine line. Still not feeling this quite yet. Let's hope Treyarch at least *tries* to do this tastefully. This trailer is far from convincing.
