"Development on xen is already underway and we hope to have it finished up in a reasonable timeframe. Xen is going to basically be a complete game in its own right, it's not going to be just an epilogue to the game; more of a whole new chapter. It'll be pretty well expanded."
NEAT!
Will get this when it's out.
you know...
before people actually believe it's happening
When ever you kill one it will go "HA thats another year added to half life 3"
It didn't look particularly great and the did a lot more platforming that required a lot more...patience.
I'm glad they're putting more thought into it because even Valve has admitted that Xen was decently poor in comparison to the rest of their efforts.
Xen was, by far, the most-shall we say, unique-part of Half-Life and thus, my theory is that it's the hardest thing to replicate. What's with the hate? I thought it was interesting and enjoyed the platforming parts. Also, multiplayer can't just be copy-pasted from HL2:DM, they've created their own take on it, which is why it requires additional time.
People joke about VALVe-time and that's fine but most people don't really know the ins and outs of game development and just expect things immediately as if developers(specifically 'indie' devs like the BM:S or NS2 teams) are some kind of toy factory pumping out their playthings on a whim.
I'm excited as hell. Black Mesa:Source and Natural Selection 2, two games that had 2009 release dates(promised in trailers and previews)are finally getting 'official' release withink days of each other in 2012. These are amazing times we live in, folks.
Also: fuck Valve for not scooping this guys up and doing this shit 5 year ago. Those idiots are literally doing everything in the world other than working on this franchise.
*Sigh* Yea, I know. I feel like they had an excuse for HL2 because the they scrapped GoldSrc and were making an entirely new engine. Then the source code got stolen. EP1&2 were about 2/5ths and 3/5ths of a Half-Life sequel, respectively, and that only took 3 year post HL2.
Between now and then, it's so much the fact that it's been 5 years as much as it's been the fact that Valve has worked on EVERYTHING they can get their hands on EXCEPT Half-Life. So IMO, less Valve Time and more Valve Priorities.
played the game in PS2 since i didn't have a a strong PC back then.
it was a good game, the Xen place was definitely weird though.
but i like how Gordon is traveling into other dimensions.
even saw one of his suit(forgot what's it's called) lying in one of the corpses(guess some people made it here)
Half Life 2 however, i get nausea for some reason.
especially the boat part, damn makes me sick and i always ALWAYS got stuck on that part.
played it Orange Box on PS3 back then(yeah sue me) then played it on my brother's steam account.
it's the same thing.
maybe i should give it ANOTHER chance after all these years??
but i'll wait for Episode 3 so that i can complete it in one go.
also Metroid Prime i get nausea during one of those platforms(and i had to restart for at least 3 times now, since either i gave up due to the nauseating scene, but also the map is huge and it can be confusing on what to do if you haven't played it for a long time)
still have my Prime Trilogy on Wii though in FREAKING NEW as it was before.
funny how both of these games are considered the hallmarks of FPS :P
well at least Metroid Prime, Half Life series is soo overrated.
i was surprised i was able to spot things from the original game and was able to compare it despite not playing the first game for the past 10 years now.
yeah the voice sucks, the music i don't know what happened though :\
but the the remake layout is freaking nice :)
Half-Life is one of the most decorated and revered games of all time. Not just as an 'FPS' but of ALL TIME. There's nothing "overrated" as the series has delivered EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Just because your weak stomach can't handle games doesn't mean otherwise, brah. Get schooled, son!
*DROPS THE MIC AND WALKS OUT*
No credible gaming publication, and no successful developer has ever listed the Metroid Prime trilogy as a hallmark of first person shooters. None. You are very, very much alone in that. Half Life 1&2 are two of the most critically acclaimed and highly regarded games of all time, regardless of genre.
The Metroid Prime games aren't even considered first person "shooters". They're action-adventure games. While loved by those who grew up with the Gamecube as their only 6th gen game console, they're mostly just cult classics and they have realistically niche appeal across the medium.
Not gonna bash you for the hallmark remark like everyone else here is doing (although I agree with the point they're making).
Just letting you know that it wasn't until I started playing games on PC that I figured out what was giving me those migraines in FPSes. While all my friends were having a blast in Doom, Wolfenstein or Duke Nukem I was headached out and stuck with third-person and 2D games (which were plentiful back then). It's the Field of View (FOV). I always have the FOV in FPS games that support it set to something like 95 degrees, which behaves more like my eyes would expect.
This is so necessary for me that I literally won't play a first-person game that doesn't let me adjust the FOV. So basically, I feel your (head) pain.
