In case you don't remember (understandable since it was quite forgettable), Black was a sleek and good-looking FPS from Criterion back in the last generation that was lauded for its destructible environments. It was a particularly mediocre affair, but it looked amazing for its time, and apparently Criterion could be delivering a sequel.
Criterion's Web site temporarily displayed a listing for Black: Second Mission before tearing it down like a much lauded destructible environment. The game is allegedly scheduled for a 2009 release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
The Burnout series developer has categorically denied working on a Black sequel in the past, and 2009 does seem pretty quick. However, we all know that industry people have no problem telling lies, so we needn't take what Criterion says as gospel. I'll be pretty interested in a sequel. There is a potentially good series if Criterion can make a new Black less boring.

I'd buy that game.
Also I'll fill your enormous gap.
I'm damn excited over the prospect of what a next gen black will look and play like. I loved that the game was more like Commando or an 80s action flick than a "realistic" shooter.
best sound in an FPS to date. including current gen titles. black's guns sounded like guns should sound.
Seriously name the properly good ones, heck name all the Fps's that came out this year, there's really not that many.
Plus the original Black still has better FPS controls then some shooters today... y'know... like Left 4 Dead.
However, the guns in Black were lovingly crafted. Gun porn indeed.
Do want?
Better than COD4, yeah I don't mean that but I'm sayin' it anyway.
It wasn't nearly as pretty but Urban Chaos: Riot Response was far better of a FPS than Black was and was way more original that most. Urban Chaos: Riot Response was definitely one of the best, if not the best itself, FPS of last generation.
It played much better then Killzone 1.
But yeah, Black was ok for when it came out, doubt it really warrants a sequel, though.
Fixed it for you. :)
