Black 2 was in development, got canceled photo

Did you know that Criterion was working on a sequel to its respected PS2 FPS Black? So says Stuart Black, the creative director to spiritual successor Bodycount. Apparently, Black 2 was in development shortly after the original game had been finished, but the game "bit the dust."

"I certainly did some preliminary pre-production work on Black 2 once we finished Black, the first three or four months," reveals Black. "I moved on quite quickly after that. A lot of the guys on the team I’m working with here now carried on with that and did a lot of pre-production for about a year or so on Black, before that kind of bit the dust.

"So, I don’t really have personal knowledge about how that all played out. But there seemed to be overall a kind of general lack of direction. I’d be surprised if they managed that again."

Stuart Black was Black's senior designer, and is now the brain behind Bodycount. This new game appears to be an unofficial sequel to Black in many ways, with a focus on pure bullet-riddling gameplay and environmental destruction. Gun porn, essentially. You can check out Bodycount's first screens here.

Technically, Black wasn't a PS2 game, it was on the original Xbox as well, and can be downloaded for the Xbox 360.

So says Mr. Stewart Black.

WAIT A MINUTE.

His last name is the same name as the game.

Funny, I didn't even know Black was available on the PS2. I bet they had to gimp the Xbox version to make it work for Sony's less powerful hardware...

I kid! I kid!

Yeah it was originally a trilogy. I do believe, according to rumours, it was supposed to go in order of Black, Red, and White.

Between the timing of the games release and it's budget I think they got shafted but maybe I'm just making excuses.

Actually as funny as this sounds i remember reading reviews for this way back and something about the ps2 looking better than the xbox versions because of certain shaders the ps2 could do that the xbox couldnt.

Speaking of black, the Michael Jackson song Black & White wasn't his greatest work but it had its moments.

Wait...so Black 2 was cancelled showing a general lack of direction after a years time put in (a year!) and so most the same people are now with a different publisher making what sure likes like (from the bits shown) like it's Black 2 with a new name and THAT is supposed to entice us to this new game?
Ever feel like developers are just laughing at the gamers?
