Bizarre's new racer is called Blur, will likely be fast photo

Last December Activision had trademarked "Blur." We jokingly speculated it was for Guitar Hero: Blur. You, being smarter, put together that it was Bizarre's new racing game. You were right.

According to the latest issue of French magazine Joypad, Blur is the upcoming Activision-published, Bizarre racing title that's likely to be revealed at this year's E3. Details are scarce, but fast cars, fancy locations, and car damage is confirmed.

But there's a catch -- unlike Project Gotham Racing in which cars would get damaged by other vehicles or poor driving, Blur will feature weapons. And armor. Also... awesome.

Again, we suspect we'll see and hear more about Blur at E3 this June. But just sit and let this sink in -- Project Gotham Racing meets Mario Kart. Yeah, we thought you'd like that.

[Update: While we're still pretty sure the game will be fast, the whole "weapons" thing is still up in the air. According to Edge Online, there will be no guns in Blur. We're still crossing our fingers for turtle shells, however. Thanks, Edward!]

...why are all racing games now just single word titles?

I'm going to make a racer, you know what it is going to be called?

Cock.

Im the only one out of my friends who doesn't play racing games, I find just going round' a track boring.
But, I love guns, and I love the idea of designing your own car and tuning it.
So if they coat that with a solid multiplayer, Im in.

@covah: True that. It's like the movie industry fad that we're just coming out of, where every movie MUST begin with "The", followed by a single word.

My only gripe with this is that it seems quite unoriginal. A racer with combat integrated into it isn't the most imaginitive thing ever. Why not something more untapped? Like a racer where you're on a Dolphin and you race other Dolphins around an island in a no-holds-barred free-for-all festival of frolicking fun?

SilverArdjet: do racing games really need to innovate?

Just give me a PGR style racer that just happens to have rockets and explosions.

You know if Bizarre ever got bored of making racing games, they could always make a new Fur Fighters.

I was thinking about this as I was playing Burnout Paradise this morning; how long until people are just plain sick of racing with with real"ish" cars in real"ish" enviroments? I hear things like weapons and damage and armor and such, but how long can you stare at a Nissan Skyline and a Clock? At some point these games are going to end up where JRPG's are right now. Where a genre has such a specific, hermetically sealed formula, and any deviation from it that may result in a fun game will, by definition, be in a different genre.

I agree with Redden. There's only so much you can do with a driving game.

Got mixed feelings on this. Like that ti's a new racing game from them, but an arcade-style action racer? I dunno.
