PetitionOnline has to be one of the worst inventions known to mankind, giving any prissy little bitch with too much time and not enough friends a chance to rally some overly dramatic call to arms about inconsequential rubbish. Enter Diablo III, and a bunch of "fans" who have found something to complain about despite getting a sequel to their favorite games.
According to some sad wankers, Diablo III is too bright. Yes, in this medium where people complain about there being too much gray and brown and darkness in games, there exists a subset of humanoid insects who think things aren't dark enough.
Among their stupid complaints are; too many bold lines and clear shapes, blue and green lighting, exaggerated character models, outside scenarios with vivid colors, beautiful forests (yes, they complained that the scenery looks beautiful) and waterfalls that can create rainbows. All this and more is enough for over 2000 "people" to put their name down in protest. OH NO SON NOT THE CLEAR SHAPES! NO CLEAR SHAPES IN MY DIABLO! THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANTED!
I suggest you read the whole petition, as it's as funny as it is depressing. What I hate about these "fans" is that they claim to know the IP better than the people who created it do, having the audacity to say things like "that is NOT Diablo/Fallout/Banjo-Kazooie." Sorry, but playing a game a lot isn't some unquestionable qualification that allows you divine knowledge about what makes an IP. Your Diablo IS going to look more like Warcraft now, so you better get damn used to it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
They'd complain as they ate it, but they'd fuckin' eat it.
As a sidenote, where do they mention the Banjo-Kazooie/Fallout thing? How the heck is Fallout used as an example of a bright, colorful game series? Fallout is pretty much just a post-apocalyptic scifi version of the art style they want so much.
Plus Diablo 2 had gamma and contrast sliders, so if they put those back in Diablo "fans" can just make the game dark and black and white.
Apparently, from looking at what they think Diablo 3 should look like, all you'd have to do is turn the tint down and rub some dirt on your monitor screen. Good game, retards. How is that any better?
Besides that, Blizzard's going to be putting touches on this game for at least a year and then some anyways. A petition against early screenshots of a game that isn't even close to being released yet... FAIL!
First time: Quitcher Bitchin
Second time: Whiney Whorebags
My trolling is done.
That said, I'm fine with the new art direction. Brighter colors and rainbows? Fine. I personaly think that it'd be nice if the dungeons did look a little more dank, but maybe they will. The outside world should be bright. When I look out my window on a sunny day, do I see dull grass and trees? No. I see vibrant, warm colors.
Keep it up, Blizzard.
- Go to the video properties and adjust gama and saturation, hell turn in near black and white or sepia
- Rub cooking grease on your monitor
- Overclock your videocard until artifacts show on your screen and takes the "Pretty" away
- Rub dirt in your eyes
- Go back to playing Diablo 2
- Kill yourself.
I hope that takes care of all the complains.
Personally, I'm in the "Blizzard can do no wrong" party.
"Due to a recent controversy over our choice in art design, we will be canceling Diablo 3, we always strive to please our fans and we don't want to disappoint anyone."
Lets see whats better, a bright Diablo or NO Diablo
+10 Retardation
Seriously, y'all starting to see why I've hated Diablo fans for ten years?
In the past, I believed this dichotomy to be the result of technical limitations, but as graphics technology has improved, the gap between Blizzard's in-engine graphics and cinemas has actually become more pronounced to my eyes. Note that I don't have anything against either one of these styles -- I just wish they would pick one for each game and use it consistently.
All that said, Diablo III looks to be the least "cartoony" Blizzard title since (appropriately enough) Diablo II. The fact of the matter is that we have only seen a fraction of a percent of this game -- far too little to judge it's overall style and tone. It could be that Blizzard is going for a somewhat lighter tone in DIII; in the end it's their choice to make.
And hell, having some relatively "beautiful" environments will only make the darker areas seem all the more desolate and foreboding by contrast, right? Apparently these petitioners have never heard of juxtaposition.
First no Diablo III, the fans cry a river.
Then Blizzard give the fans what they want, and still there's no pleasing the fuckers.
Blizzard, work your magic and just do your vision of the game justice. There's no pleasing some people. I'm all for the fan voice but you have to draw the line somewhere, and this fan voice is pathetic.
Also, what about the Fallen and the Fetishes in Diablo 2? were they gritty and dark? at all? They still make me laugh sometimes.
Now then, back to the "Silent Hill: Homecoming" is Going to be an Abomination Upon all Mankind" Forum.
The fact you said that just made me a fan of yours for life Mr Sterling.
Thank you.
