I'm not normally big into the WiiWare scene, but I'll take a cue from Jonathan Holmes and make an exception for Gaijin Games' Bit.Trip RUNNER. Y'all have my full attention now, gentlemen -- this new trailer is out of control, and I love it.

A bunch of unexplainable things are happening on screen at once and of the parts I can actually make out, every last bit is gushing with style and utter weirdness. This is the stuff that brightens my day after reporting on the less-than-captivating aspects of this industry.

Confirmed: Bit.Trip RUNNER will make you smile.

Looks like fun. Obligatory remark about how I wish Bit Trip games were on the PS3 or Xbox 360 (Hey, if it was only on Xbox360 and I only had a PS3 & a Wii I'd say the same thing).

Is it me or are the levels designed to sync with the music? They might be doing that just for the trailer but I swear that leaked footage did the same thing. That would be pretty awesome.

@GuitarAtomik: I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. All the other games sync with the music, I really hope this one does too. :)

Also, OMGOMGOGMOMG I CNA"T WAIT!!!

Reminds me of Vib Ribbon. Ah, Vib Ribbon. Typically I HATE Japanese quirk, but both Vib Ribbon and Rakugaki Showtime hold a special place in my heart.

I was going to buy a Wii, anyway, but knowing I'll have this available to me sometime in the near future makes my potential purchase seem that much more urgent.

As much as I love the other Bit.Trip titles, this one may end up being my favorite.

-Delicious retro graphics
-Catchy retro music
-Simple but challenging platforming

I love you, Gajin Games!

@GuitarAtomik

I thought it looked the exact opposite. Previous trailers have shown the game very obviously following a beat with every move you make but this one just has a single song playing over several different levels.

I'm hoping the game is more like previous trailers than this one. The beats are supposed to act as cues for your inputs the way I understand it.

Vib Ribbon was awesome. One of the greatest video game soundtracks ever.

@DinnertimeNinja
It's subtle in the trailer (pay attention when he jumps and slides) which I assume is because it's clips set to a non-clipped song. I bet an unedited clip of gameplay would match up more but there's really not a better way to show that in a trailer (without chopping up the music).

Confirmed: I smiled. Also, the ending song rocks!

@Birthmark Destructor:
The series starts at 2-bit and moves up--that's what the creators were aiming for.

Worried things are getting a little visually busy when it goes hi-fi. Presumably they were just playing a music track over the video, and the game actually has things musically timed though.

I agree that there's a lot of action going on with the visuals, but 'm not concerned about it.I mean, Gajin Games has yet to make a bad game.

@SBC Slam: If you're responding to me then yes, that kind of personal preference is pretty bad. If you have the method of playing the game you want to play and are whining and not willing to actually put up and buy the game then you are officially a tool. Preferring a console over the games is a really terrible perspective.

Wishing a game was on a system you owned so you could get it is another story completely.
