Also what's you favourite demon from the series' massive backlog?
I still feel Persona 3 is a far superior to P4.
Why do you think the Persona series is received so much better than current iterations of other modern JRPGs? Social links, balanced battle system, customization, all of the above?
ALSO <3 DALE NORTH AND SMT!
Also, if the Persona games didn't exist would you bother playing the other games in the SMT series?
Second, with regard to last week's podcast, I am totally with Collete on how awesome the music for Xenoblade sounds. When I read that both Shimomura AND Mitsuda were working on it, I almost started squealing with nerd glee.
Finally, a topic! P4 is awesome, but is there an aspect of it that you would like to see changed or improved now that Atlus is making P5?
Looking forward, do you want Persona 5 to have a similar style to the last two games, or would you like to see them risk something new once again?
If you want it to be more like the last two, would you want it to be paced more like P3 or P4?
While I love the format of the last two, I would not mind seeing them move up into a slightly older age category, like college age characters.
What I didn't like about P4 mostly was that you had to complete the 80+ hour game twice in order to see the true ending. I really felt the story to P3 was stronger more was at stake even though the story itself was more cliche. The stake of time itself was gonna be destroyed if you didn't succeed, the characters all had reveals about there person that took time and weren't just revealed before a boss fight.
The characters over all in P4 weren't as interesting to me with the exception of Kanji. He really struggled with who he was throughout the game. The other characters seemed to just be RPG character stand-ins. I really wanted to like Chie but after her boss fight she really didn't seem to go anywhere else as a character. Rise was pretty interesting mostly for her actions during the King's game.
All in all what I did like most of P4 was the subtle changes to gameplay that they added. I still question why RPG's like to make it gameover if the main character bites the big one.
I THINK NOT!
Also, the only game in the series I've played is P4. What games should I go back and play?
I've never listened to Bit Transmission before, but I guess I'll have to catch this next one now, what with me being a SMT whore and all. I'm looking forward to it!
Like Avalon said, I'd like to see you discuss the Social Link mechanic a little. I still love P3/P4 but over time I've come to realize I really want the S. Links to be majorly revamped, or even removed entirely.
Oh, and try to avoid Strange Journey spoilers please. It hasn't even been three months since the game came out, is all I'm sayin'. I still haven't had time to finish it. :(
Kanji technically wasn't "gay", he was only Bi at best, since he was clearly attracted to some of the female characters as well. It's actually quite possible that he wasn't attracted to men at all, but rather just insecure with himself and his taste in hobbies. It might have been nice if they addressed the issue more clearly, but I don't think it's so bad that they left it ambiguous.
As for your other question, if you're just talking about the Persona series I think they're all worth giving a shot, though if nothing else I'd at least give 2 a try. (It's a two part game, so remember to play Innocent Sin before Eternal Punishment.)
If you mean the SMT series as a whole, there's plenty worth playing. SMT: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor, and Strange Journey are good games to try though.
And as far as your point about the characters, I find them MORE interesting because they develop along side your main character through various social actions, as opposed to having long segments where your character was removed from the interaction. I felt more engaged with my party and closer to them as a result.
As for having more at stake in P3 than in P4, that's wrong. P4 was just more subtle about it than P3.
Tell Dale North that we love him, and that his "Home Again" was the perfect song to close out Bound Together! As a SMT virgin, I'm looking forward to hearing all about the series, which one I should get, etc. Sounds fun!
Also, we need more Majin Tensei/Devil Survivor SRPGs from Atlus.
What other Shin Megami Tensei games would you recommend I check out?
also, Mara

I also hope you all discuss the darker themes of the series like the main series takes on religion or even the gun to the head stuff in Persona 3.
Dante in Nocturne? Did you like that or not?
Why did we get only one of the Persona 2 games?
Did you guys like Atlus changing Mark's (Masao Inaba) skin tone in Persona 1? While I'm not a big fan of the other changes in character portraits, I think Mark's is the one that looks the best out of the group.
Man I've got a laundry list of questions, but this series has so much history and I've spent so little time with it.

@Jonathan Holmes: What happened to the "Wii Defense Force" Anthem that was teased in the ep3 teaser but was nowhere to be found on the released ep itself? is it complete yet?
@Dale North: Persona or Shin Megami Tensei, there can be only one (choice)!. Also any info, ideas, suggestions, rumors, speculation, etc about Persona 5? will it in your opinion be PS3 exclusive or is there a chance for multiplatform release?.
The second chapter even has some court room legal battle action. Good stuff.
