Bit Transmission episode 10 photo

Ten episodes. That's how many it took for me to get one up late. The week after E3 was not the best time to attempt getting a show together. We've learned a valuable lesson today.

Episode 10 features Ed McMillen of Team Meat. We talk about Super Meat Boy, Hitler and the dangers of being multiplatform in a fanboy world. It's a pretty good time. You should invite your friends.

Oh, and we're doing a little something special to celebrate our tenth episode of the show. Hit the jump for this episode's show notes and additional information

So, what's the surprise? Visit the Bit Transmission forum and download Bit Transmission Sprite Pack #1, a collection of the sprites used to represent the cast and some of our guests in the art which accompanies each episode of the show. Now, if only you had a good reason to play with sprites.
How about this? The folks who make the three best images created using the Sprite Pack (as determined by the cast of Bit Transmission) will each get a surprise prize pack. It could be Sea Monkeys, it could be games, it could be pretty much anything really. Head over to the forums to get more details on the contest!

Ok in topic now, this was an awesome cast this week. I didn't have questions for Ed, but you talked about pretty much everything that interested me. The deal about digital contracts seems to be good to take note of.

Another great Bit Transmission.

The only real issue I have is that every couple weeks, we're asked to post questions but yet, no questions are responded to (and I've been listening from the start; maybe I'm misremembering but I don't think so).

If there just haven't been any decent questions, I understand but are there really none worthy of the show?

@natetehgreat: We don't outright answer questions by reading them aloud, no. We use questions and comments as a way to guide the conversation and address topics the listeners are interested in.

I guess people like to have the attention of hearing one of you say "So-and-so asks...". Essentially, it's fame-whoring, but one could argue that referencing listeners helps increase the connection between the podcast and the audience (of course, that isn't too much of an issue for Bit Transmission). Though, to be fair, I'll admit that I too like it when I hear my name on a podcast.

So...you guys agree with Ed that art shouldn't be explained. I also agree.
So what's with the huge NMH2 essays then? ;P

Great podcast. Really like the guy.

@ Phoenix Gamma - Oh, I think art should be examined all right. I just don't think an artist should come out and explain every little thing that they intended their art to express.

If Suda 51 wrote "artists statements" about what the NMH games mean, it would be redundant. If he made his games right, he shouldn't have to explain to me what they're supposed to make me think and feel.

Over-explaining also ruins the fun. Trying to interpret the art of others can do a lot to help you understand the artist, the world around you, and yourself. With art interpretation, it's not the destination, it's the trip.

I think Edmund is all for us thinking about his games and writing about them. He just doesn't want to go out and explain what ever little aspect of them. He also doesn't want us to know if he's a vegitarian or not.

Mysterious!

@Conrad

Ok cool. Thanks for the explanation.

@Guncannon

Eh, I wasn't looking for shout outs, honestly. Thinking about it more, reader questions only really make sense for these developer episodes, assuming there are good questions. Attribution isn't even necessary.

Great fcuking podcast, it was really fcuking awesome listening to the fcuking Meat Man. The whole fcuking thing was pretty fcuking entertaining, but I really liked the part about censorship.

I have to say Ed McMillen ranks just bellow Minamoto and Suda 51 in my list of favoret game designers. Meat boy is great as is Gish and Time Fcuk is awesome but I have to say my favorite game of his might have to be Aether. I wished it was a little bit longer, but other than that it was just beautiful, and it would work great as a DS game with the stylus.

Relistening to the episode (because it is so good), I just realized you did pick specific reader questions to ask Edmund. So forget everything I said. Please. :3

I really enjoy this podcast, guys and gal! I especially like the interview episodes, because you've managed some EXCELLENT guests so far!

I kind of dig that you sometimes don't break it out into "so and so asks" for the questions. While the "shout out" thrill is cool, I like how the podcast flows without it.

Bit late, but downloading now.

Also, I really appreciate you putting the download link in the post rather than making me click-through to the libsyn page. <3
