BioWare's mystery countdown revealed: it's a contest photo

It seems we were overthinking our conspiracy theories when a faceless countdown showed up on a couple of official BioWare Web sites last week -- no add-ons, no expansions, and certainly no talk of sequels. Instead, what emerged was this contest ... thing called the BioWare Bazaar.

It's a week-long series of auctions for a ridiculous amount of goodies like games, gear, and apparel, most of which is branded with BioWare properties. Instead of using real money for the auctions, you're supposed to earn tokens by taking part in various challenges.

Challenges like, oh, answering questions on BioWare's Twitter feed. The auctions don't start until April 6, so there's plenty of time to build up a massive token collection for the big week. As cool as some of the prizes are, it's hard not to be a little underwhelmed. This is why countdowns are evil, folks.

You forgot a key bit of info: It's only open to US residents only (18+) except those in Florida and New York.

So basically everyone else gets screwed over.

@watermanx & Morty;
Indeed. 5-6 days of wondering what it was, and a *lot* of people haven't been happy with the results.
If you look at BioWare social, it's not as evident now as it was 4-5hrs ago however, there's a lot of discontent with what's happened. It uses Twitter (and I've also heard Facebook, I didn't look further into it once I found out I couldn't enter) which is causing some problem with people, and then it's heavily locked down to just 48 of the United States.

General consensus is that BioWare have instilled a lot of false hope in people, and there's a lot of disappointment. Rightly so!

Everyone else doesn't get screwed over. It's not like they're taking stuff away. They're being gracious enough to give fans stuff for free. If you're not lucky enough to be eligible, be mad at yourself, not Bioware

@Aara123;
I understand your point, but why should I be mad at myself for being born in England? I didn't choose to be.
Everywhere else got screwed over because it was a global countdown; So people were getting high hopes and expectations. So when the countdown finally reached zero, and after the BioWare servers came back up after crashing, a lot of people were disappointed to find out that the 'surprise' didn't affect them at all.
To make it worse, the link to the "BioWare Bazaar" is on the Social Homepage.

Meh, this doesn't really interest me. I'll pay attention when they start talking about DLC and Mass Effect 3.

@IonDan agreed, and they are. I'll most likely be spending my points (I have 2740 so far) on one, because i feel far less dorky not spending real money on one.

I have 6002 points so far. I don't expect to be a big enough nerd to win the top end prizes but some of the midling ones would still be pretty neat to have.

You foreigners think this sucks? I'm broke and I love Bioware, and I'd jump through hoops to get the tokens. But you know what? Florida. One of the two fucking states that are ineligible. This, I think, is somehow worse than an entirely different country. Fuck.

....though I do find it REALLY hilarious that only America is involved when that's only one of the language/country selections I have to choose near every time I go to the site out of the many. Like 1/10th of it.

You get quite a lot of points if you've registered Dragon Age Origins, DA:Awakening or Mass Effect 2. It's probably worth it for anyone who has those games.
