Maybe because getting banned from GameFAQs doesn't cut you off from a $70 game and the use of paid game time? Or because nobody gives a shit about GameFAQs? Just guessing here.
It's real. If you don't believe the attached image, Google the YouTube video that proves it.
@Soulibon
I'm sorry I don't scour the Internet looking for every instance of community moderation muck-ups. I found one, thought it was funny, and posted it here. Show me how I am biased against TOR. Prove that bias either in this post or in any other article I've written or contributed to. Maybe you're just a little on edge.
If you are looking for a dumb, greedy and arrogant company, look for Bioware.
They are within their rights purely as not everyone is 16 and finds knowing every obscure meme impressive. There are more people out there who would have taken that post at face value, than people who actually know a minority "in joke"
Then again i do think it was lacking in common sense, and they should have done some thorough investigating before slamming down the ban hammer.
That picture is real.
Congratulations for showing off your knee jerk sensationalism just another time, destructoid. Honestly I thought this kind of crap could come only from Sterling, but looks like it's rubbing off on the others as well. Too bad.
Thanks to Ace McAwesome for clearing this up.
Ace didn't "clear up" anything. The fact remains that he wasn't banned for hacking. If anything, Ace was the one with the knee-jerk reaction since he had assumed that the image in the gallery was faked when I made sure it wasn't before I posted it.
But of course that's what a writer with a shred of professionalism would have done. Scratch that, a writer with a shred of professionalism would know that a ban on a MMORPG isn't really news, and would have thought twice before calling a whole studio "clueless" over the action of a community representative without even knowing the reasons behind it.
To put it down simply, Tony, the clueless one here isn't Bioware. I fully understand that slow new days are a bi*ch, but filling them with this kind of gutter press crap doesn't make you or your site look good.
Whatever man. This is hardly worth getting up in arms over. If you are upset that the Internet is unfairly criticizing TOR for one reason or another (and really, I have no idea where that notion is coming from), step back from the computer, take a few deep breaths, then return.
In case you haven't noticed, I typically don't post NEWS news. I usually post stories on what I believe to be the lighter side of gaming: the gamers and the cool stuff they do or the hilarious and sometimes embarrassing scrapes they get themselves into. Apparently, I can't even do that without being accused of having a secret agenda or of (heaven forbid) making a mockery of journalism, as though the bulk of what I write could be considered "hard-hitting."
If you want just the "news," don't come here. We like to have fun now and then and not be super serious all the time.
Just a hunch.
I'm not aware of the meme and have zero intention of finding out, but I find it amusing. Bioware has always been ban happy on their forums and any dumbass that decides to break their rules even with a retarded meme deserves what they get.
@the DToid community
Not everyone cares to find all the retarded memes on the internet. Bioware is a business not a bunch of obnoxious douchebags that think memes are funny.
People enjoy being lighthearted and silly on the Internet. Not everyone has a dick up their ass. This dude was just trying to make a joke he felt was perfectly innocent. I'm sure if he knew it was going to get him banned he wouldn't have done it. Fuck any joke that's going to cost me $70. But he clearly didn't know it was going to be taken seriously. If Bioware doesn't allow him to work this out, then fuck them.
And fuck you guys who say he deserves to lose his investment just for poking fun. What kind of fascist bullshit is that?
If people break rules on forums you don't "put them under investigation" you warn them or ban them. With all the bad press this is getting Bioware will have to deal with it. Mods for huge corporate forums like that have to be anal as hell and serious with their duty. Especially if the mod was a Bioware employee. If his first reaction wasn't to email support to plead his case and provide proof of his age he is an asshole. I don't know why some people seem to believe every fucking person on the internet should be aware of every fucking meme, especially when new ones pop up every five seconds. Sorry but some people have better things to do with their time than look up unfunny and stupid memes.
He made a joke and didn't consider the ramifications of it. I have no interest in pitying people for being idiots.
He was a douche and I have no sympathy. Also, this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME in gaming and forums because of COPPA. So there's that.
Mr. Ponce may not have a bone to pick with Bioware, but it seems a lot of the internet does. Just take a glance at 4chan, reddit r/gaming, or any other similar place (destructoid forums included) and you'll see there's some kind of weird Bioware vendetta going on.
Losing the chance to play a game just because you were misunderstood is a bit silly. Figures that a bunch of morons turn this into some hateful TOR circle-jerk.
You do what you do Ponce, i enjoy it for what it is. All these guys need to chill out.
That Hero engine does suck balls though... ::evil laugh::
But as I said it a previous post, I'm not going to try to understand internet logic...so whatever.
No MMO is going to make even half the customers mostly happy. So you have a very vocal group with nothing to do but trash your public boards with negative garbage, polluting the opinions of others who may be happy otherwise.
I think every game I have been happy with, has been cast into doubt after hearing countless diatribes on the very forums that officially exist for the game. I am just an average-joe gamer, so multiply this effect by a million. Forums were actually the worst design choice of TOR.
Says the "Don't Taze Me Bro" guy. LOL
I thought joke means something funny and not repeating a pseudo-intelligent remark, which just makes you come off as an idiot.
Bioware used to be cool....then they took an EA to the contract.
Sorry everyone. It's my first time and I just couldn't help it D=. It's like pushing the red button...
Seriously though, has anyone in this comment thread even been over to the TOR forums at all? People keep going on about how the community IN the game is so great, but no one mentions the forums -at all- because, in fact, the community is so great in game cause the FORUMS are chock full of all the trolls and assholes that aren't playing, because they're too busy bitching and fighting with each other. Its a fucking cesspool over there. Like, if Obi Wan thought ill of Mos Eisley, he'd shit a brick over the TOR forums.
So while I think its stupid to an extreme that the mods just ban without looking into the facts for even a second.. Or that they can't judge a meme from a statement (and this makes me wonder how many people have been banned that we don't know about for this one, cause I've seen this one pop up there fairly often) but I don't know if I mind one bit that BioWare swings that hammer down hard and fast in most cases (we only seem to get news of the ones that come off as stupid, don't we?) because those forums sorely need the heavy policing.
@Janklogs
There isn't any bias. No one gives a shit about gamefaq's forums, and why should they? Unless of course your Sterling when he needs to point out how much they hate him, then he usually finds a decent reason to bring it up (usually how they jump his shit before his reviews even get published.)
