DLC tends to just be better when you take your time with it. If Bioware needs proof of that, they should know the answer to which DLC was ever worth a shit from them:
Lair of the Shadow Broker.
Its what fans overwhelmingly agree on and that wasn't Day One DLC.
i think i had enough investment with the Mass Effect series(over 100hours)]
an i usually don't play alot of games with that time.
still i had a good fun :D
Now. As in on the disc I just paid for.
Actually, day 1 I would really want to play the game.. not download other shit.
Day 1 DLC just by exsisting makes it seem like you are getting ripped off when you purchase a new game.
Agreed.
Also, fuck day one DLC. Fuck it and fuck the developers that insist on doing it.
Most importantly everyone should get DLC. Timed exclusives are bullsh1t and that's coming from a 360 player. Marginalizing playerbase over platform, store, location, is bad for the consumer.
"Contrary to what you might hear on the internet, shareholders do want more content. Shareholders tend to say, 'I want gamers to pay for it now,'" said BioWare's Fernando Melo at GDC Europe. "The problem with day one content and the challenge around it is that the right answer for now is different for every player, but the same for every shareholder. There is no single right time, there is no single now, though there is single bottom line for the shareholders, and one that does not involve metaphysics and philosophy. Shareholders agree thatit’s subjective, and it’s unique to every player."
There, now maybe EA can get back to doing something other than parading every hairbrained theory in front of shareholders, and hoping a few of them might not jump ship like all the rest.
Of course fans want MORE content, but day 1 DLC is LESS content, because if it's available day 1 it could have been included the game.
More like they want to make some extra money out of the guys who won't be sticking with the game for more than a month or two. No problem with that just don't pretend that you guys are doing it for the consumer only and not for yourselves.
I think developers are intentionally confusing, "I WANT to pay you extra money right now for something you should have included in the game (if it's actually ready to play WHEN you released the game)." with, "I would like the game to actualy have more content for the price you are asking me to pay originally".
To be honest, ME3 has enough replayablity and is a lenthy enough game (if you are not trying to rush thru it) that the extra $10 is not that big a deal, but when developers start tacking Day ONE DLC to games I consider WAY overpriced to begin with, it's a double insult (IMO).
Unfortunately, some gamers and reiwers don't see a big problem handing over $60 - $80 for a game that is only worth a single play thru and has less than 20 hours of gameplay in it. I do.
Either sell the the game in its entirety from the start, or allow me to experience the DLC at any point in the game.
Unless its free no one in their right mind wants day one dlc. I just bought a 65 dollar game I should not have to buy content with it to provide a more fulfilling experience, I paid 65 dollars for the game to do that.
It's not flexibility for the user, but a better business opportunity for Bioware, instead of risking players not wanting to come back to the mass effect universe after they had their fun, they simply get them when they're "high".
I think they know what THEY want people to want. They want me to want to buy a $60 game and a few $10 DLC. I want them to break free from EA and start making games the caliber of Baldur's Gate once again.
From Ashes wasn't ready in time to be included on disc, and the only way it could have been released along with the rest of the game on day one was as DLC. Of course, it wound up being turned into part of a nearly mandatory new purchase scheme. But that doesn't mean that the scheme was why they had to do From Ashes as DLC in the first place.
And you know what else should have been day one DLC? The freakin' full ending. Yeah, nobody wants to go near that one any more but I said it. I don't care if it's on disc or not. Just don't make me wait three months while acting like the EC wasn't part of the plan all along.
When games are rushed, the endings always suffer. It's the last stage of the dev cycle. At least in this case, they cared enough about posterity to come up with a long term solution. That having been said, it still kind of amazes me how more people don't see what they did there. I guess we got so caught up in internet outrage at the time that we simply forgot to evaluate the facts, and now everyone's so burned out on the subject that they don't really even want to think about it any more.
Except for me, of course. I'm weird like that.
I was being sarcastic based on the quote, " Contrary to what you might hear on the internet, fans do want more content."
